    For neurodivergent folks with executive function and working memory challenges, and even those with chonic illnesses, routines and doing things as soon as you think of them are not that simple or effective at all. Flexible systems work better than routines, such as having a bare minimum, typical, and maximim version of things to do on a regular basis. It can be far more draining for us to force action rather than putting the task in a "parking lot" list for later. These accomodations are a different version of the process you described that accomodate for varying abilities and energy levels. I appriciate the other tips!

    I so relate. I do most of these already. I have two places to brain dump, I call them my idea book and my thought catcher. The idea book catches all the crazy and awesome ideas that fly into my head so I can focus on what's urgent. The thought catcher is just a piece of used printer paper that lives under my keyboard so I can write down whatever I need to remember later.

    • @bvan.harrington
      @bvan.harrington  Před měsícem

      Thanks! I'm glad this video helped! For big dreams or goals, I like to use the principles from Atomic Habits. I'll be making a video on this some time next month actually. But I'll break down the big goal into small steps. For me, making CZcams videos starts with sitting down at my PC and opening up Notion. In the next video, I'll be talking about CZcams and have a free Notion template in it too. For guitar, I would break down that habit into sitting down and grabbing the guitar to play for a minute. Over time, that small task will become bigger like take a lesson or learn a song. But starting small makes you more consistent with it. It also helps to ask yourself "what would a guitarist do?" or "what would a youtuber do? what do youtubers do on a daily basis?" and do those tasks.

    I teach productivity, so I'm happy to say that I already do all of those...except one. We found in my family that meal prep wasn't ideal (we tried both monthly and weekly. We tried frozen, refrigerated, ingredient prep, and whole meal prep. We really did try it all.) What we found DOES work is that I have a binder full of big, easy to follow, color printed recipes. Each week, everyone in the house picks a meal out. I put in a grocery order based on those meals and have it delivered (biggest time savings right there). Then, based on everyone's schedules that week, everyone knows what night they have to cook their meal. Granted, my house is now full of teens. But we started this when my youngest was in kindergarten; I just helped him cook his meals back then. We always cook for three more people than will be eating that night. Those three meals get put into containers for the next day's lunches. Food doesn't sit around not being eaten for a long time; there's no decision making past that first "Oh, I feel like making spaghetti this week" (which gets spread out across the whole household). And it's not too much pressure on any one person in the house. Plus, everyone in the house is guaranteed to have at least one meal they like. And they all contribute to the smooth running of the household.

    Can you provide any links to the Thought to Action Framework? I checked out SuperFrameworks and couldn't find it. Also, I sort of went down a rabbit hole looking at different frameworks. LOL Any links or additiional info would be great! Thanks!

    Hmmm I do most of this already. No idea how much time I'm saving though I guess 😂😂😂. The Houston comment is good though. I'm not sure how many people do this but for many important life decisions I have to make I have create a general framework. Could be about investing, types of chores I hate, what is worth my time and so on. For those repeated decisions, I know my general preference and impact on stress so I don't bounce back and forth. Instead I just make my standard decision. It's great because it saves, time, and stress along with just being consistent.

      That’s so awesome! I do similar things, but I still need to keep on building my database of standard decisions.

    Just a thought about thoughts to action, for example - when we are hungry, we get automatically motivated to get food, drinks etc, can we use this same motivation to get things done?

    thanks for the video, I enjoyed it! The one I'll push back on is the delegating part. When I'm doing these tasks, I'm not forgoing earning income to do them, so unless you're going to replace that or another task with increasing your take home income, I feel like this is a fallacy

    I've been massively decluttering my home. One step a time and writing down quick notes on my phone any time I have a thought because I know I'll forget about it. I do the same too for the grcoery trip because I've just started cooking after moving out and I swear I always forget like one thing.

    If wearing the same things or capsule wardrobe feels limiting & boring (for me at least), try to create a uniform look, for me when I am able to find a well-fitted & comfy pant, I purchase multiples and pair it with different tops, even my tops are the same top with different colors lol, or similar design in multiple colors.

    my big time saver - delegate all household tasks to my partner.

  • @yandereSyndrome
    @yandereSyndrome Před měsícem

    Habit 8 can be a trap depending on how you implement it. It requires on the fly prioritization and evaluation of how long the small task will take. It’s also easy to use it as a means of procrastinating whatever higher priority task you’re avoiding. For example, if you have a paper due the next morning but the stove top is looking a little greasy and it would only take 5 minutes to clean.
    For myself, I try to ask myself honestly “am I using this to distract myself from something more important?” And if I am, it goes into my notepad that I will check at a predetermined time later. Even if it would only take me 2 minutes to do. I’d rather schedule out an hour later to do all of the small tasks at the same time.

    I usually give this advice jokingly when someone asks me about productivity. I say, get married and have kids, so that you will have soo less time than you will only focus on important stuff and try to get it done anyhow.

As much as I love music, I could hardly concentrate on your lessons, as the music background distracted me. Please, if you don’t mind, maybe next time you could eliminate the music at your next vlog? Thank You.

    Ok maybe it was the example used at 6:08 BUT if your solution to a recurring question is to use the same conclusion w/o thinking about it again, then wouldn't you figuratively and literally stay in the same place with no actual growth? So why not have a flowchart of how you make decisions and go through THAT flowchart every so often to see if one of the circumstances change OR you come up with a new idea? I'm just sayin'. To do anything else is to simply become stagnant.
