- Is the new Supra better than the BMW Z4 M40i its based on? I had my first go in the all new 2020 Toyota GR Supra back in 2019 at the Nordschleife, where we did a story for Auto Bild Sportscars and I loved this car from the first meters. Here I am reviewing the A90 edition, which was the launch edition of this car here in europe with a special matt paint, black wheels and red & black interior. This 2020 modell runs a 3.0L twin-scroll single turbo, DOHC 24-valve inline six-cylinder making 335 hp / 340 PS and 365 lb.-ft. / 500 Nm of torque. Toyota only made 90 of these Edition cars. The 2021 model year for the US market comes with an updated engine rated at 382 horsepower and 368 lb.-ft. of torque.. Limited to just 500 units in Nocturnal and 500 units in Refraction, the A91 Edition takes the 3.0 engine and adds forged 19-inch matte-black wheels, satin-black graphics, carbon-fiber mirror caps and a unique satin-black-painted carbon-fiber rear lip spoiler. Inside, interior surfaces are trimmed in black leather, black and blue Alcantara and blue contrast stitching. Also available in all markets is a smaller 2.0 four-cylinder engine with 255 hp / 258 PS ...
As you can tell from my test drive video here I absolutly loved driving (and drifting) the new Supra! What do you guys think? Great video Guido! Apparently the same chief engineer who was responsible for the GT86 (Tetsuya Tada) was also in charge of this A90 Supra. I like that this car likes to 'rotate' when cornering. When you corner, it feels as if you're sitting really close to the pivot point of the car - perhaps its to do with the way Toyota had programmed the steering ratio, and also the geometry alignment tuning for the suspension (toe, caster degree)

Brilliantly put, Guido! This is a great sports car since it looks stunning especially with he wide rear hips, reminiscent of the 992 Porsche 911, a very unique front end design, a logical and well laid-out interior and to top it off, a marvellous powertrain with the right amount of power. This, as you said, is the perfect daily car since the power is accessible and won't bite you as harshly if you do lose control.
Another great review Guido! I'm excited for the opportunity to drive the new Supra and see future developments of it as well. Nice timing to release the video on the holiday here in Germany also! As far as choosing it over an M2 Competition, Cayman or TTRS.. it is great to have such options for a 2 door coupe. However out of those, only the Cayman is close enough for comparison against this Supra. The M2 and M2 competition are fantastic cars, however they are a wonderful option as a slightly less focused but more flexible daily driver. In that way the TTRS is similar to the small M cars. The 718 Cayman is a focused sports car and is closer to the Supra, it would make an interesting back to back drive. However the mid engine of the Cayman would mean for the highest level of driving enjoyment the Supra wouldn't match up. Porsche will remain at the top of the pack due to unyielding engineering focus on sporting automobiles as a source of driving enjoyment first and foremost.
I would say the BMW M2 feels more focused and faster on track and out of all these cars, its still my favourite. The Cayman is too expensive, the Audi too. An Alpine is another challenger with superb handling, but I dislike the small 1.8 engine

love supra reviews! that is one strange looking paint job this supra has! it almost looks like its a satin finish metallic as opposed to a high gloss metallic... maybe its just the camera and lighting...i would always want any car to have a high gloss finish...this one looks like it was painted in some shady bodyshop LOL ... nice review brother.

Dankeschön! Mal sehn was sich machen lässt. BMW geizt etwas mit Testwagen, was ich nicht ganz verstehen kann, aber in diesem Fall ist die Supra wirklich das bessere Auto, außer man will offen fahren :)

I really like it. Who cares if the underpinnings are BMW. They’re good underpinnings. Just wish Toyota had made a bit more effort in making the interior slightly more unique and Japanese.
True, at least the tacho is unique tough and the rest just works so nicely...I think the BMW infotainment is still the best for me, I really like it

I always enjoy your videos. Everyone criticizes this for it being just a repackaged BMW, but them when driving it, all say that it drives much different than its BMW sister car. I think I may buy the 2021 Supra. Clearly Toyota put their own DNA in this car.
They really did and its just such a lovely driving car, if you can get over the BMW base. I also doubt a new JZ engine would be any better than this motor

Sounds like Toyota have a great car with the new Supra. 3 comments though. 1. I really like the curvy sensual design but my god, those fake vents are awful. Makes me want to take a baseball bat to them. 2. Honestly, who cares about an inline 6. Toyota should have used their own engine. 3. The insurance on this car is going to be incredibly high so people with money might just go buy a much more expensive car because they are poseurs.

He's not so happy with the backend and even took it out of the apex renting fleet because he thinks that someone with less driving experience might crash it on the nordschleife! what is your opinion about this? Thanks buddy! I looked into his video and see a modifyed Supra. Hmm. I still listened into his observations, but wondered: Why didnt he get it back to get the alignment checked over? I mean the Supra was developed on the Nordschleife, do you think they messed it up this dramatically? I can only comment on the two cars I have driven and they felt amazing, rotated very controlled and manageable. I can also suggest watching the Sport Auto handling test, where they commented indebth on the driving character. Maybe the guy had bad luck or he is just selling something, but in my hands the Supra got driven very hard and didnt feel unsafe at any given moment😊 Cheers, Guido

Hast du mal getestet wie es um die viel kritisierten Windgeräusche bzw. das "wind buffeting" bei offenen Fenstern steht? Wirklich so schlimm? Ich finde das Auto wirklich super, aber als Wochenend Spaßgerät wäre das ein Totschlagkriterium für mich.
Mir ist nichts in dieser Richtung aufgefallen. Am besten vorm Kauf selber mal testen, würde ich sagen🤔

I have been to Ruf and drove two of his cars for Auto Bild Sportscars, which you can find on their channel. Maybe I can re-visit them, it was amazing and the SCR 4.2 is still to date one of the best cars I have ever driven - Guido

This paint only comes on this special edition car for europe, which they made 90 examples of. So you can't order it. Actually first time Toyota built a car with matt paint. I loved it

Although this has been said many times before, my objection to the new Supra is more of a philosophical one. With all due respect to BMW, Toyota is, by all accounts, a LARGE car company. As such, when you have such a legendary product like the 4th gen Supra to follow up on...you should probably be building it yourself. I'm sure this new one drives well, and it looks decent (other then all the fake scoops and vents). But...I'll pass.

You do have a point of course, but developing a new sportscars is a thing less and less manufactures do. So taking advantage of this platform and making it into what this Supra has become, is stunning to me. I doubt a new JZ engine would be better than this BMW motor, given the regulations we have these days. So if you look over the fact that its based on a Bimmer, this concept makes alot of sense and the driving experience is just superb to me

For the price of the Supra you can only get a normal Cayman, which I wouldn't like. I have not driven the new 4.0s yet, but they are way more expensive.
It would irk me too much to know the USA gets 387PS and the EU 340PS...
Thats down to the emission regulations, which is why europe wont get the power upgrade

There are kidnappings that keep happening 33 years apart , and the kids are showing up in different time periods but theres more to it. It's a amazing show and got voted Netflix's greatest show of all time from rotten tomatoes,I highly recommend it

I have driven all C7s and loved them, so I hope we get the C8 here soon. Don't think it will be as much fun on tight backroads as the Supra tough :)
In the U.S it is very hard to get your hands on a C8.
