Having lived in West Virginia for almost 15 years before(Assuming this is where her family is given that is where the call was from and she mentioned moving away), this is a mentality that unfortunately plagues that state. Often times the parents have no education and are unable to find work and then expect the children and their significant other/husband/wife to bail them out and help them out financially. Seen it happen with far too many friends who marry and then see the in-laws suddenly coming around wanting money.

This advice was appropriate, but her approach was completely terrible. Clearly, if she has the nerve to call her parents “stupid” with complete confidence, she called this show just to embarrass them and get a pat on the back from Dave Ramsey.
Sure, she isn’t responsible for the vehicle and she doesn’t need to help her parents see their grandchild. But obviously they are struggling, they need help to learn how to handle their finances appropriately and they need a little grace. This woman has her husband who helps her, supports her and is on her side, and she is stabbing her parents in the back by stating how “Stupid” they are to need help.
If her parents made tons of money and we’re in tons of debt, this would’ve been different. But they need help and they are not “stupid” for needing so. We’ve ALL needed help, that’s why we all watch Dave Ramsey’s show.
I hope this selfish woman reads my comment.

Although the situation is bad, shame on her for demeaning her parents on air and calling them stupid. I'm equally disappointed in Dave for joining in on her parents and condoning her bad attitude. If the tables were flipped,I don't think the caller nor Dave would appreciate being called stupid by their kids.

Doesn’t mean you can’t say no, doesn’t mean you don’t call them out on their irresponsible behavior but to call them “just really stupid” on national radio? I don’t know, something about that just rubbed me the wrong way. She lost the moral high ground for me with that attitude.

Not surprising that 2 dumb parents made a not so smart child. At least she has some sort of common sense though. I’m not trying to bag on her but she paid $2000 for a SIDE MIRROR.
I can understand, she doesn’t understand vehicles most likely. Best to cut them out of your life mostly but still keep in touch.

She sounds as though she might be a brat, and disrespectful. I agree that she should not pay for a car. If her parents aren't in a place to pay to visit her, I don't think it's to much to ask her to help, maybe not completely pay, but help. That doesn't sound crazy to me.

It does not sound like they want help.
The fact they are bringing up an old car incident after it was paid is just an example of their level of thought and creativity.

I don't know about that. It's not just her they're asking. It's her spouse as well. Different if she had a job, then maybe, but she doesn't. And it doesn't seem like they'd ever stop asking for money.
