Im barely past the intro but you best believe I already liked the video... The still shot in the intro where you drove through squealing couldn't have been a better idea. Thanks for the continuous laughs. Cheers!
I haven’t drank anything in over 2 years. I might drink something on my birthday on the 22nd. Just joined the Whiskey Tribe after almost a year of watching the Whiskey Vault. I love all of the shenanigans you guys get into. Here’s to a successful Dry Week where Rex actually completes the quarterly challenge.
Before I was a magnificent whiskey bastard, I was a tea bastard!! I worked in a tea shop for three years, it's a world as fascinating and beautiful as whiskey! My time in that shop and onward led me to appreciate deep and complex flavors in many things, chiefly whiskey!
Guys I fell in love with whiskey in Ireland and you two guys just sparked my interest again with your awesome and hilarious videos. I got so much knowledge and understanding of whiskeys. Loved your finale, great skills Rex!!
Long-time watcher and first time commenter. I have nothing insightful to say unfortunately, but you two truly are some magnificent bastards. It would be so cool to dive into the world of whiskey in the fashion that you all have.
the best whiskey I've ever had was made by a buddy it was made with mostly flaked corn roasted malt barley regular malt barley and it was speed aged with oak wood and dried plums it was awesome we call it the Smokey plum It was a hundred proof out the jar but it was totally drinkable although it did help to proof it down a little bit
15:12 Rex just nodding and laughing at Daniel's concerns about it being too hot made me laugh then giggle for like a minute straight. The quintessential "Awesomely bad idea" face.
So cool to see all the work that goes into it. Man. That's pretty crazy that everything is all hand placed, hand done and not just a conveyor belt for you guys. Props! Also, THANK YOU for showing examples of labels. This will make this year's journey of expanding my taste range a lot more enjoyable. Sadly, I am a day behind on the dry week. Was feeling pretty blah on New Year's day and had to work outside, in the Southern California cold (AKA 52F with 20mph winds). Sucked worse not feeling well, so a Hot Toddy was the only thing that did the trick. Still, half carafe of green tea with ground nutmeg, ground cinnamon, ground clove, honey and orange slices and just a shot of 46% Old Forester isn't too bad when it comes to it.
Great new bottle shape. The slight V-taper says, "Grab me firm and pour me, please." The elegant, bulbous neck says, "I will satisfy your thirst... over and over again."
The video's description left me a little unsure of what a Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey means, in that moment when Red Breast 15 was shown, it's a beautiful whiskey I might add, one of the great Irish Whiskeys, for sure. I found this concise definition based on what is now law in Ireland. "From the start of 2012 a single pot still Irish whiskey is one made on the island of Ireland, from a mash of malted and unmalted barely, which has been matured for at least three years in oak. However that was always accepted as the norm, the law simply enforces best practice."
Found the tribe a few weeks ago been watching ever since loving the shenanigans of the master mooch lol. Question recently I picked up a bottle of Rock & Rye and I noticed it’s only 54 proof. Does this qualify it legally as a rye? Or is Rock and Rye breaking the law
distillers should be more transparent in their bottlings. If you have a whiskey with a blend of different aged whiskeys, then you can give it a name instead of an age statement, but put a description of what is inside the bottle you're selling. Like compass box does for example.
Whiskey Tribe See, whenever I watch the episodes, Rex plays the mooch so well, I start to wonder if he has any legitimate skills or is he just there to mooch. Daniel seems like such a brain that it overshadows Rex’s credibility. But then Rex comes up with intros like this and I feel bad for underestimating him!! Hahaha
Hi UK whiskey lover here, just something to add with the aging within Ireland and northern ireland, whiskey by law must be 3 years and 1 day old in a cask before it can be bottled and called whiskey. while in the rest of the uk so scottish whiskies and welsh and english whiskies must be at least three years old. this stems from a fued between the irish and scottish distillers over the use of the coffey still in the production of whiskey. the irish whiskey museum in dublin goes into the history of it much better than I can type it. something for you to consider for another video, also if you would like to try a whiskey which is only just whiskey, Teeling single pot still aged for exactly 3years and one day it is a blended whiskey of two cask types bourbon and wine casks
My mum and dad are going to Dunnoon ,Scotland and are taking the trip to Oban. I've give my Dad the money to get me a bottle of Oban 14 from the distillery itself.
Just attended a tasting at Cálem port winery. The rules of age-statement on port is kind of funky, apparently they take the average of the different wines which goes into a blend, not the minimum. So as long as you can drop in some really old port, it seems quite easy to crank up the age on the bottle :) They mentioned that they exported a lot of used barrels to whiskey-makers too, but not any specifics.. Their tawny tasted quite similar to my port-finished Teeling however, so I would guess that this is where part of the barrels go. Cheers! And please don't feed Rex too much coffee during dry-week, his speech-speed is already reaching turbo-levels. More caffeine and no whiskey will for sure turn him into a Gilmore Girl. :)
Hey guys, as an aspiring whiskey enthusiast just starting their journey, LOVE the channel! Quick question in regard to age, is it the youngest in terms of that barrel has been used over again over or that barrel was filled and continuously aging the whiskey and not emptied until say 12 years?
I just went on a tour of Witherspoon Distillery. They don't have age statements on their bottles, but they said they bottled after 3 years. Said they did some barrels a couple years ago when we had extreme weather after 2 years. According to this video, that's not legal.
@@danielwhittington826 I posted some pics in the group. It was a really good tour. m.facebook.com/groups/412171335944938?view=permalink&id=657886948040041 Hopefully this part doesn't get flagged as soon for the link.
Knowing Daniel's previous performance during dry week - "that tea was too hot" was probably due to unexpected alcohol burn from a 60% whisky hidden in the tea cup...
Just to add to the notes on Irish single pot still, it has to be 3 years but the important aspect is that it's a mixture of both malted and unmlated barley. They mixture must be at least 1/3 malted, 1/3 unmlated barley... To be honest, I don't know if distillers can use other grains! For example, 1/3 barley, 1/3 unmalted barley and 1/3 rye say... So if anyone knows please fill me in :)
Question regarding bottling: I brew beer and when bottling oxidation is a huge concern. I use a bottling wand to fill the bottles from the bottom. It looks like using your bottling machine, the bottles are filled from the top. Is oxidation not a concern with whisk(e)y? I know in beer one of the main oxidized compounds is hops, so that doesn't apply here. But malt flavors are also susceptible. Just curious because I've never looked into whisk(e)y making.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Absolutely agree on proper information on the bottle; ESPECIALLY if I'm new to whiskey/tasting/finding my favorite flavor profile - I would like to know as much information as possible.
Yeah... The catch is, rules of labeling bourbon apply only in USA. On the other hand, scotch whisky treats label like a contract and it's universal on the entire planet. For example in Europe you can buy "Kentucky straight bourbon" wich couldn't be sold as such in US.
Wow Rex. Props on hitting the same tone each bit......i mean..... im pretty sure the tone was pretty close to the brown note, but i digress.....
I was re-watching the video a couple minutes before posting this morning. My kid walked in and asked if I was watching Elmo...
Whiskey Tribe Elmo got into the hootch.

glad to have you with us Todd 👍

I actually went back and reached the intro it was so good 😁😂
I work at Frontier Label, we love your labels they are beautiful! Thanks for the shoutout :)
Emma should totally be more involved in your videos! She seems pretty cool and just what the show was needing!
The words Bourbon Whiskey on the original label did not look crooked, nor curved, ergo it was "Straight" Bourbon Whiskey on your label. TTB be damned.
