- Is a servo just a servo? In this video we compare the features of a standard Tamiya Servo with a Halko Turner 1.0WP Digital Waterproof servo upgrade from EuroRC!
Apart from the benefits of more torque there are plenty of reasons to consider upgrading your servo: Analog vs Digital, Plastic versus Aluminum case, Plastic vs Metal Gears, Ball Bearings vs Bushings, Waterproof vs Non-Waterproof ...
More thoughts, info and specifications below!

In this video we look at the differences of a standard servo with an aftermarket servo upgrade. The kind folks at EuroRC wanted me to test any Halko product I would like, and this servo caught my attention.
In this first work bench test the Halko Turner 1.0WP felt very promising. Well, and yes, of course I will be testing the servo functioning and running! It will definitely be tested for it's strength and durability - since it is operating with a Tamiya High Torque Servo Saver that inevitably will put a fair amount of strain on the servo. Subscribe to follow along.
You can see the differences for yourself in the video. The list is quite comprehensive ... A servo definitely isn't just a servo. Of course one can go more crazy in terms of torque and servo prices, but this just felt perfect for my 1/10 4WD Tamiya TT-02B speed test project buggy car.
Since I know there are a lot of people believing that speed is everything in a servo choice - I will give my honest and humble opinion here: Speed doesn't matter much compared to a lot of other factors ... at least not for me or the average hobbyist. Of course speed is important for on road race competition and it can definitely matter for extreme bashing and stunt precision.
But personally, I would at any time prefer torque, precision, durability and reliability over speed, which really is a secondary thing for me. With the cars I am running and the way I run them, any speed between 0.10 and 0.20 seconds pretty much feels the same for me. I would love to hear your opinion in the comment section!
I have listed some of the benefits from the different features along with the specifications of the two servos in the video below.
Plus Torque:
- important if using a high torque servo saver or a servo horn
- important in off road bashers and runners, crawlers and big-tire models
Plus Speed:
- important in race/competition on road models and stunt performance.
Digital versus analog:
- faster response time, better precision, better initial and static torque (better stability)
Metal versus plastic gears:
- better durability/reliability
Aluminum/hybrid versus plastic cases:
- better durability/reliability, better heat dissipation
Ball bearings versus bushings:
- Less friction (better durability/torque/speed)
Waterproof:
... well?

Wow Mikael, the differences really showed up on your side by side comparison! Very clear to see the advantages of the new servo. Very well demonstrated, my friend. Now the real fun begins, at least when you get some good weather! Take care, mate! 😎👍
Yeah, I was actually surprised how much the standard servo struggled to turn and self-center the 1/10 buggy wheels/tires compared to the new one. The speed doesn’t matter too much to me, but a stronger digital servo is really essential I’ve come to realize - even in a 1/10. Well one can definitely still have fun with a standard servo but the torque and precision of an analog 3.5 kg torque and just digital 10.5 kg is much bigger than expected. Will be good for speed runs and going straight. The new one also got 17 kg of static torque so I hope it will help it with stabilization. Yeah, there’s actually good weather now! Let’s go RC’ing … ohhh, wait, work day now … and then kids … and then sleep … 😌 Take care my good mate
@@NordicRC Good points, Mikael - yes it's worth investing in a better servo for many reasons. Oh yeah, work, kids, housework and sleep - I know that routine well! All the best, mate! :O)
Looks to be a real nice upgrade there Mikael, plus bonus goodies they sent you!👍🙂
Thank you for watching Jeremy! Yeah, now I can write an RC Essay with the pen, enjoy some sweets, put stickers all over the house and enjoy a good servo at the same time 😅😀
Wow good servo. I'll get it one. Thanks for review & great video keep up 👍
Thank you so much for the feedback bro!
Very nice upgrade 👌 well better and very responsive 👍they make good stuff 👍 great how to video 👍 have a wonderful weekend bro 👍😎🥰👍
Thank you, Tony! Yeah, nice and affordable servo. Have a great weekend too my bro!
Nice upgrade my friend. Faster response time & more torque too. Awesome comparison!!!!!
Thanks my mate! Yeah, a real good upgrade. Servos are often missed out, when upgrading to a better motor system.
That servo looks like it will be perfect for that buggy. Candy for the car and some for yourself too, nice.
Hi Mattias! Yeah, really perfect specs for a 1/10 Tamiya.
Hiya Mikael. Looks like a very well made servo. Super speedy too. Great comparison vid my friend. I enjoyed the dramatic music whilst looking at the biro and the sweet! Best wishes to you :-)
Hejsa Pete! Yeah, seems to be of real quality. And thank you! Ha ha, yeah, I had a laugh myself about that. I think this is the only video on CZcams with super-cinematic-dramatic music unboxing a pen and some candy 😅😅😅
A good servo is always a nice upgrade.
Yeah, an upgrade that will actually do something 😊 Thank you for watching, Mal.
Watching my Friend 👊🏻👍🏻
Thank you for the support bro!
Very nice ,🤩👍
I like it 😊 Thank you for watching bro!
Can you recommend a good brushless motor and ESC to run 2/3s in the tt02b. Just got the Plasma Edge II and I’d love to see what options are available for the future. Thanks, this is a great series of videos, keep it up.
If you got the Tamiya ESC in the kit, a cheap 10.5T to 13.5T sensored brushless motor would be ideal. Otherwise I’ve had good experiences with cheap brushless combos from Carson, Surpass, GoolRC and others. A 3500 kv will be good for the everyday run, on road and off road. If you wanna go fast though, the high speed gear set or/and larger pinion gears are a good choice too.
But the sanwa servo you removed is better than the new one!?. Was it broken?.
Hi bro. Not sure it is better. But definitely a more known brand. Pretty much the same specs (a little faster but a little weaker, and well, I prefer torque). But if I remember correctly the Sanwa is also twice the money. And the unit it is in got the high torque servo saver. I’d rather brake the less expensive. But the real issue was the low profile and the placement of the wire output. It didn’t really fit the servo mount. And on top of that I got a buggy kit coming in that requires a low profile servo so the swap was practical 😊
That's servo porn, Mikael!
And a nice touch from EuroRC they added colour matching candy in the package, and tasty, too!
Yeah, Halko is an awesome brand, I have a battery from them, it's very nice! I also saw their servos recently in an ad, but I have been buying JX from one of the other Finnish webstores, so I stuck with them so far... That one looks like a great 10th scale buggy servo.
Ha ha, Mads 😅 maybe it’s a genre that is going to be popular 😂 And nice, you got a battery. Seems like a good brand to me. Quite good prices and still quality. And yes, really good specs for a 1/10 non-pro buggy like the TT-02B. Thanks a lot for watching my friend.
Hi Hello From Vietnam First!!!
Hello from Scandinavia!
@@NordicRC hi
Second 🇯🇵
😅 He he
Very very similar specs and look to a Highest servo 🤡
Yeah, design wise I agree. Seen some crazy Highest servos though, with crazy specs (to crazy prices)
