The best way for me to tell male from female is,,,,,,,,,,,,,when they are mating, the one on top is the male. So far it has been 100 percent fool proof.
I just got my first pigeons, a mated pair of Indian Fantails & just discovered the one I thought was the female was actually a male using this exact method! Now Birdadette & Mr. Pidgerton can both have their proper names.

This is ALL bunk. Don't trust everything you see on the internet, and he is being very rough on those birds. The only one that is somewhat true is the first one. But even then, in captivity, you get situations where pidgeons will pair up in same sex couples, and sometimes one bird will behave like a male or female when they aren't. I've had pidgeons for years, and talk to a lot of pidgeon owners.

Since a couple days ago I befriended a pigeon while out gardening I have named 'The Birb'. But we aren't close enough that I can pick it up and I don't know yet if it's safe to try (I have cats wouldn't want to spread a disease - too ignorant of pigeons right now to know if it can have The Birb flu or something. Need more research before I try handling). But I would like to know if it's a he-birb or a she-birb. I'm guessing from the video the best way would be to try to compare it when I see birb with other pigeons and see if its neck and head was on the thinner/smaller or thicker/larger half of the size spectrum compared to the others?

They were a bit of a hassle - one I called 'Bad Influence Bird', in fact, because she would tear up my garden with her friend whenever Birb would see Bad Influence Bird do that, Birb would start stomping around and pecking up a storm too. But it was okay at first! Then six more pigeons showed up, then a few more after that. Long story short, the neighborhood birds caught wind that I was feeding one of them and it didn't take very long for around ten to twelve of them to constantly be hanging around pecking up my garden and making a mess of the deck and my roof, and the once or twice a day I'd go outside to water my plants they'd all descend upon my porch thinking I was coming to feed them. It was ruining my garden and I had to pressure wash the concrete every few days. I didn't observe this directly but if they were hanging on my roof they were probably bugging my neighbors too which they probably wouldn't appreciate. So after a little over a week of that I had to stop feeding them entirely - if I fed any of them anything at all they'd all come back and stick around - eating the birdseed, eating the seeds I planted in the garden they could eat, ripping up the seeds I planted that they couldn't eat, and making a mess in between doing that. It took about a week after I stopped feeding them before they stopped coming by. No birds at all for another week after that. Since then, I think Birb comes by sometimes. I think it's Birb, at least. I think I see Bad Influence Bird and her buddy sometimes too, when I'm watering the garden or planting seeds. Birb will stand around in the grass like usual, Bad Influence Bird and her friend will peck about the garden a bit like usual but just three birds don't do much damage. I just know I can't feed them intentionally or else the neighborhood will descend again. xD

Here are 6 different ways to identify Male and Female in Pigeons 1) Rule if nature Male pigeons always tries to attract Female pigeons. Female. The male will make such sounds to attract the Female.The one making such sounds and dancing ,is the Male pigeon. 2) Magnet test Pigeons have an inbuilt magnatic field, naturally. That they use to nagivate directions. So we can use this to gender them as well. Tie a nail in a string. If the nail on the string swings back to forth...its a male. And if it moves side ways....its a Female. 3) Hold the beak test This one is quite simple...Pull the beak and hold it in place the one trying to come out of the hold is a male. This one that stays calm is the female... But this method doesn't work all the time so its better not to use it. 4) The sleep test Just do as I do.The Female will remain in this position and will be calm. Where as the male will jump off. 5) The butt test Its quite complicated to understand but Male pigeons have a complete sealed butt..Where the Females have slightly opened butt. 6) The vusual Test Well Female pigeons are very calm...they are usually smaller in size compared to the male, they have small heads and thin necks. Where as male pigeons are Alpha...big in size, have an "always active and ready to fight'' type of nature, have thick necks and heads and have an over all Bigger bone structure. PIGEONS DESPERATELY NEED HELP !! 90% of pigeons in cities die in their first year of their lifes. The others don't live longer than 2-3 years. In nature, they can live up to 12-15 years ! They have nothing to eat, they are forced to eat trash and they freeze to death. Pigeons can NOT live naturally in cities. They are only here because of breeders !!

Not really. Pigeons take turns being on top. You can't tell for sure it's the make mounting the female.

a simple way is by their shape and neck, male pigeons have tall plump necks but females are shorter and have a thing flat neck
