My father and I would raise these ducks growing up, they seemed like the largest of ducks we raised compared to the mandarin or wood duck. But they were still so cool. I love when ducks wag their tails like puppy’s. So cute.

Came across a couple dozen of these darlings today at a golf course; this is in southwestern Ontario. They were very skittish, I thought ... then I saw the bald eagle ;)

re: breeding - I have a pond next to the Blindman River just outside of Bentley Alberta Longitude 114°4' Latitude 52°28', in what appears to be the scarce breeding zone. In 2019, a pair of Buffleheads bred 12 ducklings, and then there were 7, and then there were 4. Yes, eagles and hawks are around, and there is a fox den on the quarter as well. In 2020, there were 7 ducklings. I did not know until now that they nested in trees.
