Synthmania quick tip #16 - Crystal Waters' ''Gypsy Woman'' organ pattern

- Showing the organ line of a wonderful House tune from my youth - Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman". I see myself as a bit of "synthesizer historian" and over the years I compile lists when I recognize certain sounds in songs. Here's a very partial list of how popular this patch was with the House music of the era, and beyond:
Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman
Datura - Mystic Motion
Livin Joy - Don't stop Movin'
Robin S "Show Me Love"
Playahitty - The Summer Is Magic [Remix]
Cappella - I Need Your Love
Tanya Louise - Deep In You
T-Spoon - Rockstar
Alex Party - Read My Lips
Hysteric Ego - Want Love
Whigfield - Gimmie Gimmie
George Morel ft. Heather Wildman - Let´s Groove
Kuva feat. Beverli Skeete - Isn't It Time
Alex Party: "Alex Party (Saturday Night Party)" Also CZ organ
Double You - Please Don't Go cover
49ers - Touch me (also 909 and sampled vocals)
Jaydee - Plastic Dreams
and a lot, a lot more songs used the M1 organ sound. - Hudba

It sounds just like the song the sheer amount of detail you picked up on and executed in order to replicate the sound is just incredible, and I've learned so much from this video alone wow
NamxZero it’s not a hard melody to copy
charles thomas yeah lmao its just a few simple chords
The cool part about all this is that the piano and organ sounds of Gypsy Woman are actually factory preset sound patches on the synthesizer he’s using: the great Korg M1. Got one for Christmas a couple months ago, I’m still crying. 🥹 ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@Prince_Dracula masterful to create tho
2:42 When it ends with the low notes instead of the high notes it sounds soooo good
2:37 leaving this here to repeat :-)
I wish there was just this part somewhere
More like 2:36
KORG M1 the holy grail of the 90s :)
Don't forget the mighty Krog Wavestation.
Early 90s: Korg M1
Late 90s: Korg Triton
@@pHiLKizer Yes!
@@pHiLKizer Triton is the last upgrade of a milestone, the Trinity. In 90's another big synth is the T3, basically a upgrade of M1. To be right: M1 -> T3, Trinity -> Triton. Just the Z1 was the "ugly duckly" of late 90's synths, strange but extremely powerful
I'd love to see you break down more early 90s house tracks
2:37 absolutely bangers!
🔥
She wakes up early every morning just to do her hair now, cause she cares y’all! Brings me right back to the dance floor...1991
I could listen this riff for years.
same
You nailed it. A lot of videos get this wrong! Great work.
This is the most accurate tutorial on CZcams.
I love hearing that main organ sound to this day. Incredibly smooth.
Me listening the beginning of the video with earphones:
Why is it s p i n i n g
OMG I have been trying to decode this by ear for 25 years. It makes little sense from a classical point of view, but with the breakdown it made much more sense. Except that diminished Csharp with a natural C ??? Thank you :)
Thank *you for watching! That jazzy chords I'm not sure is C sharp. I think it's more like a C like I wrote in the chord names - or the relative A - chord, that plays right bere rightfully resolving back in the D min the song is in. Basically, I think the C# is the extra note in the chord, not the tonic, and the basic tonic is C (or A) instead of the other way around. But as you know, there are so many ways of interpreting chords in music theory. It's all good... if it sounds good.
The C# is an extension that adds extra tension to the C7 chord
In jazz you have complex chords that have one chord in upper part, and other in lower (bass)... that chord is g minor diminished 7 chord (g minor flat 5 and minor 7), but you can put in bass A or C to make it A dominant flat 9 or C dominant flat 9...try to listen that chord like combination of 2 chords, gb5b7 is naturally resolving into F major or parallel d minor from subdominat side, and A dominant or C dominant resolves into d minor or F major from dominant side...so you combine dominant and subdominant chord into one
It's a Db actually, making it a C7b9 chord -> it's a ii/V in F, going back to Dm ^^
YES!! This is one of my all time favorite organ patterns 🎉💖
Wow... mine too...!!!
My daughter is gonna freak out when she hears me playing this now that this video has taught me how. She loves this song and sings it every day just before dropping her off to school. Thank you so much, SynthMania!
Thank *you for watching! I'm about to post another quick tip with the organ part for Haddaway's "What Is Love", similar era -
Funny to see you playing this style of music as you mostly play 80's Ital disco...... sounds great!
synthartist69 Hes a multi genre badboy beleive !!!!!
He's a badass.. I have been following him before CZcams!
Hi, synthartist69, thank you, I actually play and enjoy a lot of music genres, not mostly Italo Disco! :-) I'm Italian, and that's perhaps I am associated with Italo Disco, but that's just one genre that I like, because I grew up with it in Italy. A few examples of the many other genres I do: Punk czcams.com/video/64BnVhW6aVs/video.html House czcams.com/video/PZkQmbGtej0/video.html Deep House czcams.com/video/aRMFaN3r9vc/video.html Dream Pop czcams.com/video/ciIGgQiVHU8/video.html Shoegaze czcams.com/video/d_2pyofshWY/video.html Jazzy organ czcams.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=hfSa4XYfuis New Age czcams.com/video/zZ2_7VHZNnk/video.html Electro House czcams.com/video/C-k9ivu7gzw/video.html Lounge/Space Age czcams.com/video/mzEelmMzktg/video.html '70s electronic czcams.com/video/ywXTy15dwbA/video.html Ambient czcams.com/video/pFcsgX44ack/video.html '80s Funk czcams.com/video/zABzTg4MGCQ/video.html and a lot more.... by going into the history of videos. А когда будет тема евроденса 1990-х?
You don’t know how happy I am to have come across this video! Can’t thank you enough for sharing ❤️🎼❤️👊🏽
I miss my M1. I used to love the piano so much. I should have never sold it.
Get the korg legacy VST version! Worth every cent.
Thank you so much for sharing these chords !!! I love this tune since it came out. It-s such a pleasure to play it on my keyboard !! Thank you so much !!
The complete breakdown of the song, the patch, the keys ... Pure genius! - How could I not like, sub and share!
One of the best tutorials of this song that I've come across, really easy to follow! Thank you so much!:)
Glad it was helpful!
on point as always, wanted to learn this for years, many thanks.
thanks really benefitting from the very basic explanations, and details on your playing techniques ,thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH learned it in 5 mins with your help I'm so stoked.
One of my favourite tracks from back in the day. . Thanks
I liked the little story you gave about you remembering the song being played a lot while you were in Europe. I love how we'll always have one specific memory to each song we'll listen to in our lives.
Thank you so much for posting this tutorial. I really appreciate you breaking it down the way you did. All the best!!!
Thank you!
I watch a lot of tutorials and this is head and shoulders above all of them, thankyou Paolo and keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Your amazing man ! Love how easy you make this look !
Love these videos, you're a great host!
Holly Cow!
Grazie!!!!!
Love your tutorials!!!!!
AWESOME!!!!
This is my jam! Thanks for the breakdown. Odd choice of lyrical content for a club hit but it still bangs to this day!
Some other video tutorials on CZcams missed a few notes or got some notes wrong from this track or didn't have exactly the right patch with the right edits. This dude got everything 100% correct!
Love your videos man.
This was the most educational video I have ever experienced.....I LOVE THAT SONG
Thank you very much
yes definitely agree with SynthMania i also remember this song playing at clubs a lot in australia in the 90s
Love this channel !!
Great video, thank you so much for breaking it down!!!
After selling my M1, I got the VST and it's amazing. I sampled the organ dry into my Fantom so I could play this. Then I just add chorus/reverb to approximate the original. It does a great job of filling that hole in my sound capabilities
Thank You so much for this tutorial, just going off of ear I thought I'd never figure out what seems to sound like a CRAZZZZY pattern. However after watching this vid I realized I was very familiar with all of those chords. A little bit of an odd voicing on a couple chords, but even still I was familiar with all of them. I really do appreciate you taking the time to post.this. I know I would never.be.able to learn it just from listening to it. You saved me so much time with.this lesson..TY again. 🎹 🎵
omg this video is so awesome
Awesome, great demo!
I didn't know the M1 had the sound. This is a very accurate chord tutorial on this progression.
Great patern. One of my favourite dance themes. You make It so easy.
Thank you for watching!
Love these tutorials!
this is great! thanks so much for this lesson!
I thought I heard a few songs out there with the same synth. I like how you taught how to play this song. I always wondered how it was played. At one time I thought it was a loop that just kept on playing over and over. Now I see how they did that. This was a nice tutorial, but you made me want to listen to the song now. I will visit your site soon. Have a great day.
Just headbangin my head watching the whole video🔥
Great class. Thank you very much.
YESSS FINALLY A TUTORIAL VIDIO !!! THANK YOU ITS REALLY HELPFULL ❤❤❤
2:36 I never knew I needed this so frickin much omg
I waited till the end for the 909 to drop in!!! Great work!
Love it! Thanks for posting
Todd, thank you!
So cool!
Thank you for the tutorial! There was some things I got wrong when learning this myself and you've cleared it up!
HOLY SHIT! When he first played that thing I was stunned speechless, all the reverb and bass in every keystroke, such a rich sound!
thanks a lot you kind sir, this is amazing
So nice of you
I used to mess around on the korg M1 when I was a kid back in the 90s as we had them at school.
Excelente ! Maestro Jedi !
This is my first time, watching this.. I can't believe I was able to play this by ear, when i first heard it..
the voiceleading makes me drool it's so good
Very very good 👍👍
Thanks for this EXCELLENT lesson !
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for this. That C7 dim9 (jazzy) chord which has the C# in it is wrong in so many other tutorials, and the C# is either a C or D in those. I knew C# sounded correct and in this video it's extremely clear that it is. Nicely explained also. I was also trying to understand how that could make sense from a theoretical point of view, but I guess it just passes through from D, C# (accidental) then C, and it seems to just resolve itself back to D minor. It's a really cool chord in the context and works so well.
Incredible...
Old skool pumping and thumping..bliss 😎
That poppy green is so beautiful
This is great! Thank you chief.
You're very welcome, boss!
Thank you very mach! I van it now playing!

@@joseovelasquez6264 Prog B-71 or B-72 if I recall correctly. It's exactely this sound as found in the M1.
