In the end, your people should survive. Armin and mikasa and literally everyone else were so blinded by their own morals that they forgot to take their own island into consideration. In the world of attack on titan morals is equal to shit. I'll tell you why. Armin and mikasa wanted to let the rest of the people know that even eldians from paradis are good people. But eren, with his knowledge of the past, with grisha's memories knew all to well the mentality of the marleyans and the way eldians are treated. Eren realised that the simple thought of getting along with them is hopeless. Now let me explain why. Imagine being a marleyan or a guy from any other nation other than paradis. You are not an eldian. You have come to know that there is an island of people who can literally turn into giant human eating monsters. So, will you care about getting along with them, or will you care about the safety of you and your family? No one wants such a huge threat to exist in the same world as them. If it was me, I would want to eliminate every possibility of those eldians killing our people. So I would most definitely agree for them to be eradicated. And the brutal history of the eldians empire worsens the image of the current eldians on paradis. Why the hell will people get along with such dangerous beings? Eren understands the world's point of view. He understands that they will never get along. It's like having an island of monsters in our world. The humans will make it their mission to wipe out this threat. You see, in other shows, the main characters are humans who fight and kill monster race. But in AOT it is the opposite. The race of monsters are fighting back against their fate, while eren jaeger leads their nation. In our world, such a cruel decision will never be justified, but in the cruel world of attack on titan such a cruel decision is justified, but that doesn't mean it is correct. It's not like anything in AOT is correct or wrong in the first place. For example, you may claim that Armin's plan is correct, but from the point if view of the eldians of paradis, Armin's plan is shit, and they will call him a selfish bastard because he is putting his morals before his own people. The rest of the world will call eren a selfish bastard because he's only caring about his people and not the innocent lives that he's killing. You see how shit and screwed the world of AOT is? It's not bad writing, in fact it's brilliant and masterfully well done.

I feel like Erwin is really underrated. His character is liked but never like the other characters in the anime. AOT literally wouldn't be anything as we know it without Erwin's sacrifices. Definitely one of my fav characters.

Erwin is a prime example of how to avoid plot armor. Hell, in both of his charges, he was the first to be taken out.

@@video_game_royal4797 You missed the part where I said "the plot was on their side" as in, the writer wasn't going to let Armin die. So the character did something that made no logical sense for the sake of plot.
If he died during the charge, no one would have had an issue. Rather, instead he was kept alive just long enough to justify Armin getting powers and his importance to the plot. (despite never doing anything that other characters couldn't figure out.)
It's the perfect example of the meme where a bad writer kills off a character for the obvious reason of another characters growth.
I read somewhere that Erwin's last speech to the recruits was not only to convince the recruits into giving their lives but also to convince himself into letting go of his dream and doing what's right for humanity's sake, and that Levi, Hange, and the rest of the Scouts will carry on his legacy. No lies, just rage against a cruel world.

The foreshadowing of his death already happened when he spoke out to Levi about their fallen comrades. He was always following the rule to not talk about past. He broke it. This implies that even if they won without loosing Erwin he would not be the same person.

The best part about this scene is how they kept going even after Erwin was dead,with first Bowlcut(Marlo) and an unknown random character taking charge.

-was standing there on the bridge when annie's hand comes moving towards him and hits the bridge, but erwin dont even blink.
-was ordering to advance even after getting his arm eaten and himself pulled by a titan.
-was standing alone on the wall when Reiner came there.
-didnt give up even at the end and died winning his final gamble.
Forget to mention that actually it was reiner who was afraid even though he was a titan

People say Isayama made Erwin based on Captain America but I think he made a better character than Captain America.
Captain "America" is the funniest hyperbole I have ever seen. A hero in a country founded by land theft and genocide of the Indians (the natives of North America), built by the hands of countless slaves. What's more the country just ignores its past and moves forward with their colonialist agenda by interfering in other countries (be it through economic or military means) to serve its owns interests.
Erwin's inspiration is actually a mix of more than one character. Isayama wanted the "fights for justice and equality" part of Erwin resemble Captain America.

Hearing this theme after watching ep 73 and with Levi theme against the beast titan really makes be emotional and how they used Erwins and Kennyâs theme and it really with just perfect in every way.

Everyone appreciates Erwin, i do too but everyone else who took part on that death March is as sigma as him for me, they had their full lives to live and yet marched with him at his order, truly selfless side characters that deserve appreciation too, they were cowards but they had that courage many wouldn't have.
