    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    One of the greatest records ever made, in my opinion, is "Twilight Time" by the Platters. It was a much deserved number one hit on the Billboard chart in 1958. Tony Williams had one of the most beautiful voices in pop music. This footage was filmed at the Brussels World's Fair and the entire episode was a look around the attractions and exhibits. It's a shame they didn't show the entire song on the broadcast, but I'm grateful for what we have. It's so great to see a high quality post of this beautiful footage. The Platters are my favorite vocal group, and I hope you will post all of their appearances with Tony singing lead, particularly "My Prayer", "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", "Remember When", "The Great Pretender" and "The Sound and the Fury".

      if they are your favorite group..then you must realize this is a lip-sync....so who cares how much is shown....

    • @TomElvisSmith
      @TomElvisSmith Před 2 lety +3

      @@jadezee6316 Of course I know it's a lip-sync, as was the film of "The Great Pretender" shown on the Sullivan show (their other appearances were live). I care because this is still a wonderful music video filmed at the Brussels World's Fair, and it would have been nice if the entire song was broadcasted when originally shown, to make a complete video, but I'm happy for what they did show.

    The Platters are often referred to as an "L.A." group. Now, It's true the group was assembled there and managed by Buck Ram from that city. He also wrote some of their most famous songs (Twilight, Pretender and Only You among them). Actually, only Zola was from Los Angeles. Tony Williams was from New Jersey. Herb Reed, the bass, came from Kansas City. Paul Robi was from New Orleans and David Lynch from St Louis.

    They don't make music like this anymore I was hoping it would come full circle. I probably wouldn't know because I haven't listened to the radio in ten years I can't stand the noise that passes for music these days. I'm glad some of the kids are reacting to this they can find out what true talent is

    THE PLATTERS! EVERYTHING THEY TOUCHED TURNED TO GOLD. UNFORTUNATELY,
    LEAD SINGER TONY WILLIAMS NEVER GOT THE RECOGNITION HE DESERVED. HAD HE BEEN A SOLO ACT, HE WOULD HAVE; HE GOT LOST AS
    MERELY PART OF THE
    GROUP.😆😩☹️
