  • Meet Alex, one of our team of more than 200 leakage technicians and analysts. A typical day sees him out and about our region using the latest technology to find leaks on our water network. He’s even inspired his little boy who loves looking for leaks like his dad!
With investment in staff and technology we’ve had our best year ever for proactively tracking down leaks - up 34% on the previous year.
We’re already the best in the UK water industry for finding and fixing leaks, but we’re not stopping there - we’re investing even more over the next five years to drive down leakage to world beating low levels.
Thanks Alex, and the whole team, for your amazing work this year!

Took them nearly 3 years and 14 holes, and 4 attempts to find and repair a leak that use to settle outside of my property. They originally told me it was my pipe and then my rainwater drains. Let’s hope my property doesn’t start to subside in the next few years.

How do they fix the leak without introducing mud and stuff to the water?

This is without sarcasm, but usually the water coming out prevents ingress of foreign objects, all fittings are clean-wiped during installation.

It depends, if the main is left throttled enough for the gang to carryout repairs then positive pressure is maintained and nothing can get into the main. If the main needs to be isolated for a larger repair then the Main is fully dug out and the excavation pumped clear of water, all fittings are disinfected and once the main is fully recharged then a technician will then flush the main and take samples to ensure the highest quality is maintained.

Would someone be able to tell me the difference between a Leakage Technician and a Leakage Field Technician, if any. Thanks.

Possibly Leakage Tech is Customer Side & Field Tech would be on the network looking for visible leaks & LBPIs
