Thank you Aneka. I have been sewing since i was 11. Only used medium weight woven fabric, straight stitch with universal needle. All was well until my late 20s i bought different types of fabric such as stretch, very light weight, heavy denim etc. I was going crazy. kept on thinking it's the tension, needle (only had universal), oil and fluff and dirt in the machine. Opened all the parts of the machine cleaned and oiled several times over many months. The machine worked on the medium woven fabric but not on other types. I was baffled.... WHY???. It took me months of youtube vids to know what I was doing wrong as no one was actually advising or explaining in detail as you are doing on your last few tutorials. Although it took me a few years to be confident to use all types of fabric, needles, threads and stitches without fear, i learnt the hard way. knowing that beginners can find tutorials learning the basics makes me happy. Especially now there are more knit and stretch fabrics with beautiful prints. This will definitely help them continue sewing. I nearly gave up my love of sewing even though i was sewing for years (Didn't sew every day) and it bought me joy and happiness. Stopped talking to my sewing machine for many months untill i friended her again( i did say sorry 😭). Though she never eats she always has her place on the dining table 🤣😂😅. I don't sew every day but no one dares to tell me to put her away 😍.

Thanks for this video, really helped me get re-started with sewing with a machine after over 30 years xD Usually I always do everything by hand, but after taking my new coreTex winter pants to be readjusted for my beer-belly (not from beer, but from liver condition), and getting a quote of 200€ with a one month wait time estimate... decided to do it by myself. After finishing half of the modifications by hand, I gave up and splurged on a machine (still way cheaper than the quote) and here I am! It was surprisingly hard to find any informational videos on basics that just didn't gloss over everything or read like a MSND manual "this is a needle, this is a thread, you setup the thread into machine and start sewing" xD
This was a great video! Next time could you also put a picture of the stitches (like on the machine) to show which one you're talking about? That'd be really helpful

I noticed you have a Bernina. Is there an adapter available to use other brands of feet with a Bernina? I have lots of Singer feet but they attach completely different.
Hmm… I am not sure as I have personally always purchased Bernina feet (even though they are expensive). I sold my old feet that went with my old machines. You might be able to purchase an aftermarket thing that allows you to attach other feet to it? Might I haven’t seen or heard about this for Bernina. I have had customers with other brands of sewing machines purchase an aftermarket device that allowed them to use different feet (generally universal), when there machine was perhaps too old or just didn’t have the foot they wanted to use. Maybe enquire in a sewing machine shop? Sorry I can’t help.

I would use a smaller stitch length, say 1.5mm or sew over yourself a couple of times. You could also do a Bar Tack, sewing backwards and forwards a few times OR a zigzag stitch with close to 0 length. Good luck!
Hi Aneka. Thank you very much for your great videos. Can we change the stitch length or tension degree while the needle and the presser foot are down as in the case of stitching all around a pouch where the lining is thin but the outer fabric is very thick or must we raise the presser foot and the needle then change the setting/s? Many thanks!
I sometimes leave the presser foot down, but always lift the needle. I think it is probably best practise to raise the needle in case it impacts the machine in any way.

Made to Sew Hi Aneka! Thank you for your kind reply. I watched your video, that is a wonderful pouch however it has a zipper with tabs. What I mean by an inset zipper is more like a recessed zipper that is hidden down. I did not use the term “recessed” as that would refer to the one that is usually used in handbags which has wider sides. The inset has very narrow sides. Thank you very much🙏😊
I assume you mean embroidery or decorative stitches? Of course you can use these decorative stitches any time you want, perhaps to decorate a project you are working with?

I got a new machine and it can make little cars, cats and trains. When would I use those?
