Depeche Mode's version of "Sundown" is inspired by the Scott Walker cover and not the original Gordon Lightfoot version. Hear Scott Walker sing this song, it's the DM version line. Regardless of comparisons, I found the version sensational! Even more so when I found out that this song was on the playlists that the late Mark Lanegan sent to Dave saying that he would like to hear them in Dave's voice (they were friends and fans of each other. A pity that Mark left so soon... .I'm sure the two would do something impressive together). Well everything I'm seeing happening with DM right now is just amazing!! How lucky to witness Depeche Mode claiming their place for good in the music business! How lucky to be able to see them making history once again! What an infinite joy to see them continue their brilliant career in such a dignified and coherent way with their history. When so many artists with extensive careers limit themselves to staying in their comfort zone and offering more of the same to their audience, DM delivers to the world and its fans, an UNPRECEDENTED and spectacular album, a grandiose tour and a beautiful and moving lesson of life. Thank you God for being able to witness this! Thank you Dave, Martin, Andy, Alan and Vince. For everything. Eternal DM. 🖤🌹❤️
This period of Depeche Mode is really weird. It's the band I've known and loved since i was a teenager... Over 30 years... Sounding like they always have, but COMPLETELY renewed. It's such a beautiful thing to experience. I feel like I'm discovering my favourite band for the first time... All over again. 🖤
...and yet as a loyal and lifetime fan of Gordon, I find it only fitting that his brilliant songwriting be included in their well researched choices. Bravo. Wonderful music
First band I saw live. Black celebration Tour. Seen them a few times subsequently but not for 30 years. Booked for Twickenham and I can't wait. I don't think I've ever seen them so revitalised and motivated and (amazingly for a 40 something old band) relevant . The new album is stunning.. Daves voice is sublime.. Bring on Twickenham
I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!!!! I usually don't like remakes. But I've ALWAYS loved this song from Gordan Lightfoot! But when I heard that Depeche Mode remade it... I... COULDN'T... WAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIT... FOR THIS TO DROP!!! 😍
It's a cover of song called Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot. But this version is closer to cover by Scott Walker. I think idea of piano room is to have one new song, one rearranged and one cover. All with BBC Orchestra. Other two are on BBC channel.
It is like hearing a tribute band. Not really compare to DM. Like Dave is walking in someone’s shoes.. I wouldn’t be surprised if next time they will make a country music...
RIP Mr. Lightfoot. Canada will miss you.

Worded eloquence, nicely done.
Lovely comment. Made me sad and happy at the same time. Like the band themselves. 🖤✌️🖤
Beautiful tribute x

Gordon Lightfoot was not even remotely on my shortlist of artists I thought they'd pick for their Piano Room cover. But I dug this.
They know this from Scott Walker cover! Gordon's original is Iconic!

Sad to hear that Gordon Lightfoot died a few days ago, 1st May.
Wonder if he was aware of this brilliant cover of such a wonderful song xxxxxxx
I really love that DM covered this song. RIP Gordon Lightfoot ❤
HOLY CRAP!!!!!! When did he die????? 😱😭

Would never they would cover a G. Lightfoot song! Lovely!
What a voice. When he starts singing I am captivated and everything else fades away around me.
Regardless, Gordon Lightfoot wrote and sang Sundown.
RIP Gordon, 84 years old, May 1st 2023 🇨🇦😢
Dave‘s voice is absolutely amazing! What a great cover. Please more of this!
To bad he fucked up the lyrics, lol.
I LOVE a well-done cover song, especially when done by a favorite band. This fits the bill!💖💖💖
LA PERFECTION ! ❤ merci pour ce grand moment de bonheur, cela existe encore!!!!😊❤🥰
The cover we never knew we desperately needed! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Depeche 4 Ever!

Gordon Lightfoot just died today. I really hope he had a chance to hear this version!
In 2008 he said "I never heard a cover of one of my songs that I didn't like". Yes, I hope this was the same case.
Amazing DM.....❤
I think Gordon Lightfoot would've liked this.
❤
Zo mooi❤❤❤i love you
How many songs they've performed in this setting? I've seen two on BBC channel, and this is the third one? Where can we find more? :)
Top Draw 🌼👍✊
Dave Gahan great version of this old song
😎😎Sztum-Legnica 😎😎2023 . Lenka ❤
r.i.p Gordon Lightfoot. xxx
Mooi van vroeger
Gordon Lightfoot R.I.P. Nice, DM
RIP Gordon
Turn up the volume please
Where can I find all the videos from this performance?
I heard that this is one of the b-sides of memento mori presumably
❤️👑🇺🇾
Dave sings like Elvis now. A lot of fans seem to like that. It's not mine.
R.I.P. Gordon 😢
Dave Gahan sounds like Dave Vanian.
Believe in youself❤❤❤😂😂
Okay look... I love DM, I really do, but listen to this and the original and there is just no comparison.
should have done their own songs... the other two are great.
@W H it's the BBC2 piano room format. All bands that perform there have to do 2 songs if their own and 1 cover version
😀😀😀😀
RIP Gordon Lightfoot.
Gahan Lightfoot
Redfoot🎉
Nice version I noticed they left the line out of the song.
R.I.P. Gordon Lightfoot.

Nothing
Na ja
The sound quality is really bad at the end 😢
It is like hearing a tribute band. Not really compare to DM. Like Dave is walking in someone’s shoes.. I wouldn’t be surprised if next time they will make a country music...
Depeche Mode covering Gordon Lightfoot... well alrighty then.
I don’t know about this. The tune doesn’t really fit Gahan’s voice. I’d like to hear Martin on lead vocals here.
Yeh it’s not great imho.
I always heard DM wasn’t very popular in the UK. How come?
True - pretty much until now. So wrong. So unfair ……
They've always been popular with the discerning listener.
Don't know where you heard that , they have always been popular in the UK.
@@anthonymclean9743 From an old interview with Dave and Martin.
After twis, true this dingo man die
Dave slipping into an Elvis style vocal is so cringy
This sounds like something from Dread Zeppelin!!!
Pub singer, an insult to Gordon Lightfoot.
Dave is no pub singer lol
Can't hear the percussion at all.
sound is shit,
unless its me.
Completely awful
Dave's voice does not fit this song terribly well. Interesting choice, but covers are not what DM does best.
Martin acoustic version might work better
Yeah, I think I'll stick with Gordon Lightfoot, thank you very much !
Is the singer Italian? What's up with the hand bud?
