    Since the late Seventies, thousands of guitarists have relied on a dependable pair of orange and yellow Boss stomp boxes known respectively as the DS-1 Distortion and OD-1 Overdrive.
    The DS-1 is so popular that Boss still manufactures it, a full 35 years after its introduction in 1979. The OD-1 was one of the three very first pedals to feature Boss's compact design, which endures as an industry standard to this day. The OD-1 itself, however, lasted only from 1978 through 1985 before Boss replaced it with the OD-2 Turbo Overdrive.
    The new Boss DS-1X and OD-1X pedals are not reproductions of the original DS-1 and OD-1 but rather entirely new distortion and overdrive pedals that take advantage of modern technology to provide essential, everyday staple tones just like their namesake predecessors.
    These pedals have their own distinct sonic character, and with their low-noise performance, dynamic response and tonal versatility, they are significantly expanded versions of two of the most beloved compact pedals of all time.

    I have both those pedals and they both sound awesome. I can play blues metal jazz country and these pedals rock.This video is the best I've seen for the description and explanation for these pedals, great job.

    Love that Charvel and it looks like GW finally learned how to properly mic up an amp! Love that OD1 though :D

    Hey paul, these are some of the longest lasting peddles, as well as sound. The tones never have sounded better for tube or solid state.

    Pedals are decent but that guitar is beautiful.

    I'm curious how the OD-1x sound differs from the DA-2 Adaptive Distortion Boss released a year ago. Wonder which styles of music they're catered to. respectively, and which one would pair up better with the DS-1x.

    That carvel is a Jake E. Lee signature and it has a Seymour Duncan on the bridge. Awesome looking guitar and great sounding
    However I really didn't like the sound of the pedals sounds muddy and unarticulated, don't get me wrong, I love boss but nowadays they need to improve just like they did in the 70's cause today they doesn't seem to offer something new in the market

    I don't understand what's the purpose for using reverb or delay all the time when demoing products. Well that's just me. I love the sound of these pedals. Wish they did a part where they combined the amps overdrive with either pedal boosting it.

    I like how it sounds like Paul is saying "gay knob" haha. All that aside, this was an awesome demo and Paul, your playing was incredible! You are one of my favorite guitarists!

    So many people gave negative comments. So what is a good distortion and overdrive pedal! With my all tube fender amp these pedals sound incredible.

    Everything sounded like 80s Hair Band riffs. it may be the guitar. I would have liked to heard some little diversity with Blues or Blush based rock. Based on this video, the pedals ate for everything for Dokken, the Scorpions, and probably some modern high gain but that is not a tone I am after. Being able to have that tone is cool, but not one I dedicate a pedal to.

  • @gilmouring
    @gilmouring Před 5 lety

    Maybe this is a stupid question. But I noticed that guitar hasn't the tone knobs. Can I ask why? I mean, is there a real improvement in the signal path?

    Wow,GW is a little late on this one..These pedals were reviewed by everyone during & a little before the NAMM show..I'm actually a little disappointed as i was a long time subscriber of the mag until a few years ago..Even Premier Guitar and Andertons were on the ball & reviewed them right off..That being said i am a fan of Boss pedals. I currently use a Boss tuner,& a Boss ME50B bass effects unit.People,"mostly kids" criticize them but they've been building quality virtually bulletproof pedals since the 80's and back in the day everyone used them.

    That bridge humbucker sounds great? Does anyone know what make it is? I don't think it's a DiMarzio...

    • @UrsaMachina718
      @UrsaMachina718 Před 10 lety

      It's definitely a Seymour Duncan, you can see the lettering. Most likely a JB or Custom.

    • @gkol69
      @gkol69 Před 10 lety +4

      The guitar is a Charvel Jake E. Lee model with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and Dimarzio SDS-1 in neck and middle.

    • @pedraw
      @pedraw Před 10 lety

      It appears to be a Jake E Lee signature model guitar. That would make the bridge humbucker a Seymour Duncan JB.

    Ok - I'll share my thoughts..... LinkToon000 said "That Bridge Humbucker sounds great" . As a general rule....When a "Pickup sounds great" - IT's BECAUSE the Guitar sounds great - Plugged in or NOT!!! This is a high end Charvel guitar.... and I bet Paul from Guitar World, is playing a GOOD Charvel Jake E. Lee.... so.... resonant tone wood... great build, neck wood.... etc = great sound.... Any "decent" PUP would sound good in one of these..... period. Want to throw a Bare Knuckles Rebel Yell in here? Even better........ (I've heard many a Duncan JB SUCK ASS in many a shit guitar...........) but not in this one...... case closed......
