DIY: IKEA INTO FOLDABLE WORKSPACE

- I really wanted to buy this for a long time, but they don't sell these where I live, so I decided to make one. It turned out great and I really really love it. Plus it was super easy, so you can do it too! I am sorry the tutorial is not very good, it was my first one.
Total cost was aprox 380-400 US dollars
IKEA items I used:
2 x GERSBY, 702.611.31
2 x PLATSA, 503.309.51
2 x FONNES, 403.310.55
plywood for the fold out table, two 2m pine wood for the legs, acrylic white paint, door hinges for the fold out table and a deadbolt to secure it in the closed position.
I know some items are not available in some countries, but you can basically try it even with 4 BILLY bookcases.
Update: Guys, on 24.02.2022 I had to leave my house, because it is located in Kharkiv, Ukraine just 30 km from russian border. My neighborhood is destroyed at this time, so I have no idea if I even have a home now, and I am not able to measure anything. Hopefully, I'll make a new one and with a better tutorial.

@@HelenKukovski Nothing to thank about! It's reality! God gifted you with that and you are my kind of person...you don't throw your money on the window. I wish to do something like that but I can't...not alone...everybody who's crafting will wish you to do that for them and not to spend so much money on dream box. I'm not saying people should not buy that, too. Good for those who can afford...not me! I have a very small craft corner and I don't know how to arrange it to meet my needs.
You don't need a handy man, but you wouldn't have any of that if the man dint build or manufacturer the parts to begin with to have us buy it pre made already to just be assembled lol

Great idea. I didn't have the space so I turned what I already had into storage for my Cricut machines and materials. I used the Billy bookcase with the half glass doors. I put the machines on the top and all the vinyl below. I want to turn one or two of the middle shelves into pullout shelves, so I can leave the machines in there and just slide them out when I need to do projects. I can also install a power bar inside, so that all the devices are plugged in and ready to go.
Inspiring! I've been coveting a DreamBox but can't rationalize the cost. Figured there has to be a good alternative. Thank you so much for sharing your process in making yours! Happy making stuff!

It's so expensive the dream box and I have so much stuff I wanted to put in a bus so I can be mobile and the dream box will just roll an make a disaster
Agree, kept seeing Dreambox adds on my social media and once I saw the price tag I thought-but this looks like cheap ikea furniture, no way in hell am I spending almost 3 grand! I could build it out of real wood for that price!

Ikea is too far from me and they wont ship to my region as it’s too far (for the heavier stuff). But the concept is the same, so I can fabricate my own “dream box” with what I can find locally. Awesome job! Its beautiful!

Awwwwww, love that!! Wish I had a good husband. Construction worker wouldn't even spare me 20 minutes of his expertise, now he's on to his third marriage, but it too will fail. He met me while going through his first divorce. Brought my replacement to my house to spend the night on a day he was supposed to have custody. What a prize. That was a very stressful night, I would never do that to my kids.

thanks for the video - it is Soooooo Encouraging! I'm going to have 2 of these made to span an 80+ inch area of my craft room. BECAUSE I do papercrafting, I'll be purchasing units that will be at least 14" deep to accommodate both my 12x12 paper and my large shoe clear boxes of stamps.

If you add wheels to the middle part, after closing the workplace, you can then move it next to the wall and have a lot of space in the room ;)

What size hinges,n cuts for plywood,also where did you get fold up table from thank you for sharing
I'm wondering whether one could create a more spacious single central shelf by using only two sides and then custom-made shelves. What I don't know is whether those shelves will be capable of holding some weight.

Hi Krys, I will try to remember and re-measure it. I wish I did it then, but this workspace was one of the first things I did and I really had no idea and no experience on how to make a proper and helpfull video)

@@recoveringsoul755 sorry, I am afraid it doesn’t exist anymore. I was living in Kharkiv, Ukraine. My whole neighborhood is now destroyed by russian bombs. So there will no be updates on this one. I hope to make a new one once I will get a new home, but right now I had to flee my hometown.

How thick is the wood for the wheels and where did you get the wheels from. How big are they, then you could adjust the wood?!
