  • This video shows the efficiency and sustainability of a bottle tower garden. They can be installed against the wall of a house or along a hedge or a fence. The number of bottle towers has to be adapted for providing food security for the family all year long and year after year. It is a method applicable anywhere on earth, both in rural and in urban areas, e;g. on a balcony. It can be applied at the lowest cost to alleviate malnutrition and hunger.

Imagine using plastic bottles that never decay in a landfill and using them as free planters to feed people. The man deserves an award. Thank you so much for such a well presented idea. I will use this for my small garden.

I agree. This is amazing. I have actually started, not this method, but I drink a lot of water and I keep the bottles and use them to plant my cucumbers, squash, beans and tomatoes in as a hanging basket on my porch.

All these methods are not sustainable because almost all plastic these days are made to biodegrade and that is what and why we should move away from using anything plastic. I wouldn’t have such an issue if plastics weren’t designed to leach out into food and water and more would recycle but those days are long gone.

Hello, I want to thank you for this video. I made a bottle garden this year and can't believe how successful it is! I Everything with the exception of a small amount of twine and wire is recycled. I started with a gazebo frame that someone had given me, and many 2 L bottles and pots. I live in BC Canada, and many people I know are going to do this too. We need to grow our own food, since we can not trust the people that produce our food for profit. I hurt my back a while ago, and am living on a very small income. This has been wonderful. Thanks again.

For everyone who has issues with eating produce grown in plastic bottles (and given the treatments food undergoes to keep it fresh from farm to store, I feel that's just a little irrational - no matter how many 'studies' one chooses to read) you can always use this method to create a colourful flower garden in a small space! I've been researching tower gardens for a small commercial strawberry application for some time. There are plenty of better looking systems out there, but they all cost a LOT more. This system is simple, economical and it works. The one modification I am going to suggest is painting the bottles white to reduce heat in the soil before the leaves get big enough to shade the bottles. Other than that, I'm investing a lot of time and money into this very shortly - 4-6 weeks. I plan to use a 2x4x8 board, pressure treated, sunk about 3 feet into the ground and 2 towers of bottles on the pole with 5 or six plant spaces for strawberry plants. no or minimal weeding, easy to set up a timer on a drip irrigation system. Not going to do a you pick, everything will be me or staff. Yes it doesn't look as pretty as the commercial towers for $100 plus each, but this can be made under $5 a tower and from everything i see should work just as well. as for bottle degradation, i plan to replace the bottles in 3-4 years as the life of the plants die, so that's no big deal if they do deteriorate, if not i recycle them. I don't think they will, plastic pop bottles last 100s of years. it's the milk jugs that break down. THANK YOU for the video. I really appreciate it as there are very few other videos out there on tower pop bottle gardens. VERY IMPRESSED.

I don't care about BPA. What I want to know is HOW DO YOU CUT THE BOTTLES to get them #1 Stacked, and #2 the port for the plant!!!!!! This video shows a great finished product, but shows NOTHING about the HOW TO part of BUILDING it. Are you cutting just the bottom of the bottle off? (leaving the neck?) Do you ONLY drip irrigate from the top? Are there ventilation cuts so the soil can get aerated?
