    The best drive of Capelli's career. Brilliant.
    Also...... this race gave us "pure Prost".
    It doesn't matter who's leading for every lap of the race as long as you're in front on the last lap.

    1990 was a stunning season. Perhaps my favourite ever.
    We were spoilt rotten with one brilliant race after another.
    So many great drivers all driving relatively equally matched cars but also with some very notable gatecrashers to the party.

    I keep thinking about it: an Italian's first GP win would have kept his country's greatest team from getting its 100th win. History is so full of irony. Still, a really great effort by Ivan Capelli. What a shame he didn't win any races. He's better than history gives him credit for.

    @pabloscart - HI! thx for info ! That's why
    all of us F1 enthusiasts should be always thinking about the cars' performance and shape overall,before dishing out statements and comments on drivers'
    skill and overtakings ...
    Obv. I know Prost was a master, but it could be much harder for him if the March Leyton House had still be fully performing.
    Anyhow Capelli did play correctly indeed..
    a good guy.

    For goodness sake.... WHY can't we get these MARVELLOUS moments on DVD??
    Can the FIA or anyone from Dwarf Ecclestone's empire grant the BBC rights to sell the 'Grand Prix' highlights???
    Madness.....pure madness !

    @swca92 HI ! best Capelli's performance ever ,I dare say ! I recall we were watching TV saying that probably we were going to have another italian great driver on the grids....Well,things went differently (several reasons for it) and we just recall Capelli as a correct guy :)

  • @pabloscart
    @pabloscart Před 15 lety +2

    Actually Capelli had a problem with the oil pressure in the last laps, the engine was going down... so Prost was able to overtake him!

    • @TheColinChapman
      @TheColinChapman Před 6 lety +1

      maybe, but for sure his tyres were going down. You can see Alain Prost taking the kink after the Mistral straight much quicker than Ivan Capelli did. Ivan Capelli tried to make the distance on a single set of tyres, Alain Prost had made a tyre change at half distance. The difference in speed towards the end of the race between than was not so much topspeed on the straights, but cornering speed.

      Yes - before this issue, the Leyton House had the beating of the Ferrari on the straight. He overtook the Williams on the straight earlier in the race. Renault engine in the Williams was very strong, so says a lot for Judd. Albeit car was probably running a lower downforce than Ferrari

    to lucianoestivill - Fairplaying by Capelli
    as well........I don't remember if he had
    any prob.on his car.
    They went through SIgnes curve in 5th
    after downshifting from 6th if I correctly recall.What a pity they 've butchered the Mistral straight since a few years :(
    Greetings !

    @tonypap1 might be due to tobacco advertising? they could blur it out , recognition software, as google map blurs out number plates and faces.

    レイトンハウス陣営によるタイヤ交換ノンストップ作戦が見事にドンピシャりで、No.16のイワン カペリがラストでフェラーリのアラン プロストに抜かれるまでトップ走行を展開しレースを繰り広げた。
    このまま行けばカペリ初優勝かと思われましたが後方のプロストが近づきシーニュ~ボーセ間で仕掛けるがカペリが押さえる。決着は2度目の同じ区間でプロストがカペリを抜きトップになった。
    プロストは地元で勝利し、カペリも久々の表彰台に立った。
