    Late Pannalal Ghosh was an eminent flute player. India has not seen a flute player of his caliber after his demise.

    Thank you for uploading the video. Pannalal Ghosh will always remain a legend- this recording shows us why.Hearing his recitals I am struck by the difference with that other great maestro, Hariprasad Chaurasia. All these people are our greatest national treasure. And those, like you, who are preserving their works , are doing us a very valuable service.Thanks again.

    The finset rendition of the raag Desi in flute. It surpasses even most of the vocal renditions of the raag. Pannalalji captures the essence of the raag in such a beautiful way. A rendition full of rasa and bhava of the raag.

      Tabla player is most probably Shri Lalji Gokhale. Most of the accompaniments in other records were done by my late father Pandit Nikhil Ghosh, the younger brother of Panna Babu.

    Raga Desi is primarily a vocal raga. But it sounds great even on instruments. It is sometimes wrongly Calle Desi Todi. But it has no Todi element it.

  • @aymannzahri2277
    @aymannzahri2277 Před 4 lety

    Although Raga Deshi is commonly referred to as Deshi-todi, but this association with the Todi family is a misnomer since nowadays Todi is understood to be Miyan ki todi, which has a completely different scale. :)

    • @lleifer
      @lleifer Před 4 lety +2

      According to my late Guru, Devendra Murdeshwar, this rag is also known as Desi Todi because the figure ri-ga-ri-sa is considered to be a todi formulation, regardless of the difference between the ri shuddh and ri komal.

    it is a losa that instrumentalist dont do vilambit anymore.
    even the living legend hariprasad never does vilambit.
    pannalal plays classical how it is supposed to be.

    • @sandeeppatil3449
      @sandeeppatil3449 Před 7 lety +10

      That's what makes Pannalal Ghosh different from Hariji. Pannalal Ghosh played it in 'Gayaki' style. So when you hear his flute, you feel like someone is singing.

      @@sandeeppatil3449 - you are absolutely correct - this is where I find him similar to Vilayat Khan shaheb. Unfortunately I have not found any other flautist who can play with such depth and imagnation. Nityananda Haldipur follows the Pannababu style of Tontrookari but he runs out of ideas/imagination. Meaning no disrespect to any of the musicians this is just my personal choice and taste.
