When I was growing up, I was abused a lot and I found this song. I didn't understand the lyrics at the time, and now I've found it again and it's like I didn't even know the lyrics were speaking my life out to me. It makes me happy and sad nearly 20 years later.
It's strange but I feel this strong connection between this song and Depeche Modes' " Enjoy the silence" where it's kind of this hauntingly beautiful love song where the original That Martin Gore hand written was compared to almost like a ballad or even a dirge before Alan Wilder got ahold of it and upped the tempo a bit. I believe there is still available on CZcams a recording of Gore performing something close to his original vision of the song but the changes are still there and I'd love to be able to find it in it's entirety with no changes and sans the crowd singing along in the back!
I always loved this song. An 80s baby. The other day in the car my mother said ...I love this song! As it came on... I was kind of surprised...but now going deep into the lyrics... I understand. She was very abused as a child. But treated me like gold. I love you Mom.
