    Super underrated series. These budget videos are brilliant for beginners!

      I'm glad to hear you're really enjoying the series! Beginners are definitely the primary audience, but also people wanting to starting a second or third army.

    Excellent video! That first army list is exactly what I expected; "just buy the Combat Patrol three times and a fuckload of Sagitaurs", lmao. But those other two lists seemed really cool too! I was really certain I'd like the second one most, with its infantry and heavy armor focus, and I really do, but that last one really won me over with a little more of a balance between that and the tanks. I'm going to use both of those as inspiration for my list! Luckily I managed to get ahold of the Votann Christmas box, so I already have ten Hearthguard and a Hekaton to get started with that third list!

      I also tend to favor the more balanced styles of lists when starting an army. That way if a great box comes out with, say hekatons and sagitaurs, you aren't out of luck

    Saw this posted on reddit, and checked out your other budget videos as well. A) great content, B) you are rapidly improving the quality of content and production. Keep it up! I'll be checking back.
    One recommendation: On the tier list, add some text to indicate which army is being represented by each icon you are using. Since your target demographic is new players, they may not be able to easily identify each and there is no easy way to "reverse-engineer" each icon to your previous video. Or maybe add links to the other budget videos in the description that are listed by tier? Food for thought.
    PS A playlist might help organize them more easily for folks browsing the series.

    As someone who is just getting in to the game, this video feels like it points me in the right direction. Hope you do one for the guard at some point tho it seems I've already invested a lot in that direction, looking forward to applying the stuff you mentioned in this video to when I expand my votann army after I'm done with my guard one 😅

    • @Speeds_Gaming_Corner
      @Speeds_Gaming_Corner  Před 5 měsíci

      The best way to do guard on a budget is unfortunately just spamming tanks. It's still not great cost efficiency but running multiple dorns, Russ, and sentinals is probably the way I would try to lean without doing too much research into it.

    Cool video! I'm just getting into 40k and got the votann combat patrol and a christmas box on the way. The nice part with a new, smaller army is its easy to get one of everything 😁 and by the time i actually finish painting everything the codex will probably be out and i can re evaluate

    Gw just really needs to make a standard tier for army better hoards like tyranids and guard and elite armies like space marines csm and craftworlds. It would be the perfect place for armies like sisters, LoV, admec and maybe MAYBE necrons

    • @Speeds_Gaming_Corner
      @Speeds_Gaming_Corner  Před 5 měsíci +1

      That standard tier is where I think T'au, Votann, and Necrons are SUPPOSED to be.
      The problem I have is GW tries to fix balance by just changing points. I understand firsthand that it is easier to balance a game by just changing numbers as opposed to changing systems but we saw in the most recent balance dataslate that they ARE willing to change rules for things like Votann and Death Guard and it makes the army feel so much better than just "more stuff". All it does is turn armies that weren't meant to be horde armies into horde armies and armies that weren't meant to be elite into elite armies.

      My best friend is building up his first army as guard (I bought him the cadia stands box last year) so it's one I want to get around to for sure.

    • @jayplanet8929
      @jayplanet8929 Před 5 měsíci

      I started with a cadia stands box and my army grew from there. The points value is terrible in the combat patrol box for guard. I like sentinels with stracken/ psycher +catachans and manticores personally in 1k games. Sadly there is so much flexibility with the guard it's easy to get carried away. I'm up to around 8500 points now built and 2000 painted and still not finished. All due to the sgt in the box art with the auto shotgun in cadia stands with the FOB behind😅. The guard is an expensive love

      @Speeds_Gaming_Corner  Před 5 měsíci

      @@jayplanet8929 It definitely is. My buddy's entire Guard army is a Tank I bought him, the Cadia stands box, and some Scions I helped his mom pick out for him. He's look at over $1000 to get the rest of his army up to 2k and wants to start a second army as his primary army so he can slowly build his guard up.

  • @StarkMaximum
    @StarkMaximum Před 5 měsíci

    Oh yeah, I forgot to ask; when you have a list that leans heavily on Hearthguard, like a 10 brick, two 10s, a 10 and a 5, basically 2+ units, do you think it's best to deep strike one and have the other move on foot, deep strike both, or neither? And if you're just deep striking one, is it the 10 brick to be a sudden hammer drop, or the 5 man for a more surgical strike? Just asking for your personal opinions, nothing more!

    • @Speeds_Gaming_Corner
      @Speeds_Gaming_Corner  Před 5 měsíci +1

      My gut instinct is to treat it the same way I treat dropping in Crisis suits in T'au. If I can afford to put a unit into deepstrike I will. If I think I will get run over if I don't have that immediate support then I will put it on the table.
      With Hearthguard though its a little hard because they have no transport and a 5 inch move its incredibly annoying to try to move them up the board. If you advance them every single turn it will take them on average 2-3 turns just to get up on the opponent.
      I think Hearthguard are one of those "Always deepstrike" units much like terminators in Death Guard. You can maybe keep 1 10 man on the board if they have the Etacarn Plasma gun to help give them the extra range to hold things off, but then they aren't going to do much else other than shoot and you're wasting your Einhyr Champion on that unit. A re-rollable 9 inch charge is something close to a 55% success rate.

    • @StarkMaximum
      @StarkMaximum Před 5 měsíci

      @@Speeds_Gaming_Corner That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for your input!

    • @Speeds_Gaming_Corner
      @Speeds_Gaming_Corner  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Double checking things, you COULD put 5 Hearthguard + an Einhyr Champion into a Hekaton land fortress. That could allow you to have them start "on the board" in a sense in case you wanted to try to have them use the transport instead of deepstrike. Pros and Cons to both obviously. Deepstrike is more flexible on where they could get out, you can have a 10 man unit with a champion, possibly get into your opponents backfield. Transport can let you get them out right into the action.

    • @StarkMaximum
      @StarkMaximum Před 5 měsíci

      @@Speeds_Gaming_Corner Yeah, that's what I was thinking after reading your comment; either deep strike in the 10-man, or put a 5-man and a leader in the Hekaton. Different ways to do the same thing; get my hammers and blades in the fray! I definitely see the appeal of teleporting in big 10-man bricks, but sometimes you just have a rogue 5-man and you need to get them up the board somehow.
