Love this song since my brother played it over and over but two things struck me about this video from a bygone age… 1. Duane and the band are definitely playing to the studio recording of the song and not live-no body raised a ruckus about that fact then like they do today, and… 2. Safety was definitely not in mind when the show had the band wheeled around two stories in the air from one end of the auditorium to the other end of the auditorium. They were definitely young and dumb. RIP Duane Eddy and thank you for capturing the sound and spirit of eternal youth that only a rock pioneer could have done!
I saw Duane Eddy..somewhere in the deep South, probably 1959, I was 5. Memorable because my dad took me up on stage after to shake hands with Eddie & the band.
Thanks for your music and how it brightened my childhood. So many fond memories. Rebel Rouser was re-christened "Rubber Trouser" in my Junior School....RIP Duane
WOW! Dick Clark's production team went all-out on this presentation of one of the most-influential guitarists of the 1950s and early '60s. Duane Eddy had such a cool guitar sound. Knocks me out!
This song and 40 Miles of Bad Road were two songs that gave me goosebumps back in 58 & 59 and here I am today listening to this Still with goosebumps... this music is Heaven.. Soundtrack of my youth 🎼🖤
I'm 26 and absolutely adore this era and music aswell as 40s even a couple rare songs such as show me the way to go home original version love it and yess that beautiful guitar riff if Duane Eddy mixed with saxophone to this day gives me goosebumps also friend it's an amazing song thats rythms can't be matched ✌️☮️☺️
I liked the music of the 1940s when I was growing up, but when the 1950s came in with Bill Haley and the comets 💫 I really loved the rock and roll era! It’s still the best of all time!
Great tune ❤Rock and Roll baby 🎷🎸🥁Everyone in that audience looked like they were all having fun ❤God bless them all ,Legends back in 1958 , Transport me back to those Good old Rock and Roll,Doo wop days,The fashion also looked smart as well when music was Yes oh yes ,Music,People know what good times actually were ,I myself aged 50 love all the classics 🎶 💕Not like the awful stuff that plays out nowadays 23 years later from the late 1990s to the 21st century,It's just noise nowadays .😔
Some of Duane's beat songs were album cuts and lesser known tunes that never were major hits. I just loved his sound back in the late 50's and still do. I was a fan of all those great instrumental groups back then....Duane, The Ventures, The Fireballs and Johnny & the Hurricanes.
l'll miss u Duanne. like many others U inspired me to play guitar. l still have my old 1958 Guiild Amps Guild was one of your favorite guitars beside gretch and danoelectric...l'm sure U will not be playing the harp up in heaven but showing the angels your twangy thing and show them a thang or two. RIP u were like a god when u were around in 58.
l was just a kid and a when these songs were on the radio. I loved all the instrumentals of the time, Dave "Baby' Cortez and the bands of the time. In later yrs I became "roadie and later a DJ. I loved turning on younger people to music they never heard. I'd love to see the video of Dwayne Eddy and Max Headroom doing Peter Gunn theme in the 80''s.
Me too! When stereo replaced Hi Fi, I bought some Bose speakers with a 500 watt amp. Hung the speakers from some chains and got a real treat when cranked up to max they actually swung back and forth for some music!
One of the all time greats and still going strong. I recently saw a video of him at 83 years old playing backup for Robert Plant and Allison Krause performing "I Can't Let Go" from their new album. They don't make 'em like him anymore!
With his passing he may very well have been the last of the real true 50s Rockin Rollers I guess you'd have to count Chubby "Let's do the Twist" Checkers as the last of that era unless I'm not aware of anyone else still alive
There are! Years ago, I met a musician, he had Yank Rochelle's mandolin, he was a beast on it. He put it down and played the guitar. He was a beast on it. I follow two young guitarist that play like Derrick Trucks.
It doesn't get better than this. Man, what happened to the music today. Where are Duane Eddys and suchlikes today. Sad, but at least we have these memories and their music.
Some of the guys in school back then complained that Eddy's playing was overly simplistic, and that "anyone could do that." First, it takes skill to do what he did, and second, what really matters is, does the music sound good to you? It's for entertainment, fer chrissakes! Not a competition to see who can do the most complicated riffs, it's just for making music. I've been playing guitar for some time, now, and I still can't do what he did, as simple as it sounds. I'm not a natural, so I may be slow or unable to master certain skills, but I still respect those who can do what I can't.
@primalcoach1 - I agree with you. Some might put down Dwane Eddy for being a “one trick pony” but that doesn’t matter if you can do that “one trick” better than anyone else!
primalcoach1 that music is *primal* ... it hits you straight in the gut - that’s why the old folks were afraid of the visceral beat and those knarly, rude sounds, and the young folk were so stimulated!
It’s not tons of skill that makes a hit, but writing something original. If you have both then that is great but sometimes people write a new tune and can’t even play it themselves, or they learn just enough to perform it. I knew plenty of people that could play the neck right off of a guitar but couldn’t write anything good to save their soul.
One of the First Songs I learned to play, along with YEP & CANNONBALL when I got my Fender Jazzmaster for Christmas in 1962...Duane Eddy was the Man back then !
Oh wow! They were on a fork lift in the basket! How cool is That? !!! I love the way that sax player spreads it out and the crowd was so connected. Yahoo!!
Duane Eddy and Dick Clark in my memories are always associated together. I'm sure it was watching American Bandstand in the late 50s that I first heard this mesmerizing twang.
This might seem boring or simplistic to some people. But all you have to do is see the crowds reaction to this music. This was their music not their parents it was cool it was hip and new and part of the origin of Rock&Roll music. these were the pioneers along with the rest that paved the way for all of the others that followed. And made Rock Concerts into an experience.
My dad brought me to see Dick Clark's Rock and Roll Road show the Saturday after Independence Day in 1964 when I was 7. On the bill was Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Little Richard and Fats Domino.
Motivate your childeren or grandchilderen to learn to play this music again, it may not be lost in time, back to garage groups again, golden ages loved them.
RIP Duane Eddy (April 26, 1938 - April 30, 2024), aged 86

When the Sax kicked in everyone went wild. The Sax truly made a hit in the songs of the 50's.
Just learned that the sax player is none other than Jim Horn, 17 at the time
@angel. This says 1958. That might be Steve Douglas.
It's a real killer, that big fat Tenor Sax !
I just found out the the Sax player in Rebel Rouser was Gil Bernal (died at 80) and the Sax was overdubbed.
I’m thinking Steve Douglas. 😊
One of rock and roll's greatest instrumentals.
For sure
Love this song. The twangy guitar and the band follows. Saxophone, too. Thanks Duane Eddy and the Rebel Rousers.

So long, Duane Eddy. You’re a rebel in heaven.
Duane Eddy did great music. I have a greatest hits disc and I love the era. Him and that sax were killer together. Thanks for the memories.
Does, not did. At time of writing, Eddy is still alive and playing!
Duane is still alive aged 84

Best Instrumental Rock and Roll band of the 50s and early 60s in my opinion :)
I agree!
One Of THe Very Best Hit singles of 1959 as it is By Duane Eddy with his big Hit Rebel Rouser as it was a huge top ten single
You had to love that tenor sax.
Gil Bernal
@@Cuppie44 Yes you're 100 percent correct Gil Bernal played the sax on the recording, but I believe the guy in this clip is Steve Douglas
@@jonnychingas5757 Yes...Douglas became the main man with a sax for Duane but Jim Horn also did a brief stint.
I bought this record in 1958 and it is still in my collection. I used to play it so loud when my parents weren't home that the house shook!

Even as a native American I will love this song! Forever!!
Often we loosen up in ways not having any bad intentions. I see nothing wrong with this song.

Great clip. Boy would OSHA crap their pants at that set up !!!
