      I think, frankly, creative geniuses who actually output solid art should be given more leeway with creative opinions. Anybody who has interacted with a creative genius knows that throwing ideas and opinions around is precisely how good art is made. They understand they may be contradicting themselves in the past or in the future, but the constant churning and oscillating is where actual brilliance lies. The art itself speaks more volumes than throw away interview answers. Additionally, I don't think Matty was saying "don't use plugins because they're lame". He was more throwing a comment out about what the band is interested in currently. I'm sure he's plenty aware of how plugin-laden his music has been in the past; that's half the reason The 1975 was so determined to use real instruments this record. People evolve.

    Analogue/vintage gear is great when it's reliable, though I think we're going to see even more of it modelled, emulated and sampled in software in coming years. It's become a hell of a lot more feasible in the past decade or so to accurately model the character and non-linearities that hardware units produce, which aside from the tactile aspect is what people who tend to gravitate towards it are looking for. I'd be curious to know if printing drums to tape and then back in to the DAW was used on every record, I Like It When You Sleep has some of my all time favourite drum sounds.

It doesn't have to be expensive either. Anyone complaining about plugins and having too many choices in digital doesn't a) know how to clean their room and organize b) just hates to hate on "modern technology"... "Useful stuff is annoying" ??? GTFO Your phono isn't annoying because it's useful, it's annoying because you don't have self control. Gross.

    I like the new record.. but the JV1080 wasnt even close to around when fleetwood was recording. It wasnt even released until the mid 90's. SO they definitely didnt use that or the korg. Also, to be against plug ins and use all this rack mount is admirable but not when you quantize and pitch correct everything on your album so at the end of the day it still sounds exactly the same.

    George lost me at M1 and JV1080 being used by Fleetwood Mac, those synths came out after their time. That said, the JV1080 is a classic and fortunately its still dirt cheap, I still am surprised 15 years later what I can get mine to do.

    • @valleymoto10
      @valleymoto10 Pƙed rokem +4

      idk how they do it but my band plays to a click track with all the instruments being played muted, while you still have the synths and pads playing over what you're playing live. Drummer just plays to a click to keep time with the backing track and there ya have it. They probably have a different way of doing it idk

    • @levimatulis6955
      @levimatulis6955 Pƙed rokem +1

      Usually shows of their caliber will have all the sounds that are not being played by the band on backing tracks on a computer. As well as layers underneath what the band’s playing, like guitars, percussion, vocals, distinct delay trails and whatnot. And then the drums have triggers that play the exact snare or kick sound from the record whenever the live drum is hit

    It’s kind of amusing to see a dude shit on plug-ins when it’s probably mixed and mastered by an engineer who uses plugins. That being said if you can afford to use all real instruments it’s a very different vibe then plugins I feel much more creative when using my actual synths.
    But it’s a trade off, I find real stuff is pretty punchy and has a distinct sound compared to plugins and it’s very difficult for either to accurately imitate each other
