The KLR is like a Tractor, it’s tough, reliable, simple….but lacks any and all forms of excitement.
And the 650cc engine preforms like a slightly modified 300cc.
But I won’t roast anyone that rides one, at least they’re out riding something 🤷🏼‍♂️👌🏻🤘🏻

Watching this makes me glad I got the 310 against the advice of my friends who were pushing the klr😋. My first bike was a klx 250 and the suspension still gives me nightmares. Good video, thank you. I have only had it for a while but I am enjoying it immensely. Getting almost 70 mpg around town too. Still have my plated gas gas 200 2t for the real offloading adventures though...

I picked up the KLR650 Adventure model and it's a beast. I haven't been on a bike since ‘89 and it's been bloody unreal getting back on two wheels after all that time. I ❤️ #myKaren 😂

"Vibes for days" on the KLR, LOL! I think its impressive that the old dogs are still being compared to the new ponies. I rode a DR650 45k through Mexico and Cental America and yes it wasnt the most comfortable but it did the job without a hitch. Every bike does perform better in certain playgrounds which is why its always good to have more than one horse in the stable ;)

My 09 dose it all . All of the time . In the dead of winter and heat of summer. Speeds in Mexico over 90 mph . It dose get a bit fun . Butt clinching fun . I have had mine since 2012 . It came from NavyThoma8. You can look him up on you tube . He went to a BMW . Yep .. he just loved that . Great channel . You have my sub .

It looks like you might have been comparing an older KLR 650 to a newer G310GS? The newer KLR might have less vibration and a nicer ride?
I bought a new 2019 G310GS for my 60th birthday three years ago and I love it. It's much nicer on road than the small dual sport thumpers I've ridden since 1975, and it's more than capable enough for the milder off road that I'm doing these days. My biggest complaint against the KLR would be the weight, on road, but even more off road. I like light bikes. If I wanted a more off road oriented ADV bike, I'd probably get a KLX 300 and add a large rack and carry extra fuel until there was a much larger after market fuel tank.
I wish BMW offered a G310GS Adventure model with a 5 gallon fuel tank, tubeless spoke wheels, an aluminum bash plate, engine protection bars, larger and more aggressive pegs, and fully adjustable suspension front and rear. Those upgrades would cost BMW less than $400 and I'd pay $2000 more for that bike.
Bike manufacturers, not just BMW, look at their small ADV bikes as beginner bikes. They use them to get new customers on the upgrade path to their mid size and full size ADV bikes. Older riders typically have more discretionary income and are buying smaller bikes because they have trouble handling and lifting larger bikes, but I'd argue that a small ADV bike like the G310GS is better off road for all riders. Unfortunately, the marketing department doesn't want to admit this, so they won't sell full featured lightweight ADV bikes because most people wouldn't buy their more expensive larger bikes. That's why smaller ADV bikes are built to a budget and are stripped of premium features. The companies would rather sell someone their first bike, that leads to their second and third. They aren't interested in selling old riders their last bike, so they miss the opportunity to make an R1300GS Adventure profit margin on a G310GS Adventure.

I have a 310 GS that is kitted out better than the two bikes you have on the video. I have found that getting after market parts was very easy. I get comments all the time on my 310 gs its kitted out as well as a 1200 GS bike. I ride with a BMW club and my little 310 does not feel out of place next to the other members bikes.

We agree we’ve done many miles on them. Not long ago we said “it’s all the bike we will ever need”. But as I said in the video get out and ride as many bikes as you can. These videos are just for fun.

Where are you ordering your aftermarket parts? Having issues finding a good quality engine guard.

I have a 2021 G310GS and have done off road with a KLR, the KLR is way more top heavy and for that reason I would stay with the G310GS as far as the aftermarket parts I haven't had any problems getting any. one thing I would suggest is changing up the sprockets if you want a bit more low end power I'm ok with the RPM's at the top end after doing that only thing I don't know yet is the long term reliability of the G310GS yet and one more thing you left out is the G310GS should be getting better MPG's , nice to see a fellow Washington G310GS rider

Yes there is always so much I wished I added in the videos after I post them. Very good points. We do love the GS and if we stayed closer to home that would be all the bike I need. But we like to cover many miles on the asphalt to get to new riding places and the gs just fell short due to CC limitations. I still have my 310 and have no intentions of getting rid of it. If you are anywhere near Olympia WA let’s get together and ride!!!

@@coreygoat86 a ride would be great to set up down the road I'm just north of you (Renton) and I do know what you mean with the CC's of the bike I think if the baby GS was a 500cc it would almost certainly would be a unicorn bike for sure

I agree with the speed. I don't like taking my 2016 KLR over 50MPH and will try to avoid roads that are any faster. It's a great cruiser for around town and I live near a lot of gravel roads so I find it ok, but I would never take it on a freeway, especially for any sort of distance. It just don't like it.

You should try a 2022 KLR. The "vibes" are much better on the 2022. Maybe to give it a better comparison. Great video otherwise!

We would absolutely love to try the new fuel injected models. And if we ever do I will make a rebuttal video. In fact we have heard from someone offering us the opportunity to ride their KLR 650, that might be set up a little bit better for the road. If I get the chance I’ll take it film it and report back!!!

Just subscribed to your channel. Off topic but where did you find the luggage rack for the G 310 GS? I have looked everywhere and cannot seem to find anything! If you wouldn't mind please point me in the right direction.

I am pretty sure Goat was running the Givi racks, something like this: www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/givi-pl5126-side-case-racks-bmw-g310gs-2017-2019?sku_id=1330889
They sell a top-plate adapter to run a Givi top-case as well. Hope that helps.
