**********Significance of Rangoli***********
Rangoli means colorful designs; this word has been originated from a Sanskrit word “rangavalii” which means presenting cheerfulness in a very pleasing and artistic manner through colors. The birth of this extraordinary art if to be believed is hidden in the story of Chitralakshana which is the first critique of India with the help of colors. The sudden sad demise of the King’s highest priest’s son left him in great agony. The lord of ultimate universe, Brahma manifested to soothe the helpless king and further directed him to draw a miniature of the boy on the wall with a view to bring the boy back to life which was considered to be the very first Rangoli.
The rangoli represents the happiness, positivity and liveliness of a household, and is intended to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good luck. It is believed that a Hindu household without a clean entrance and rangoli is an abode of daridra (bad luck).
