Learning about Alexander in college gave me a midlife crisis. This man was conquering the world at the same age where I’m in a battle to not eat too many ramen packets in one day

That's from a movie, not from a historical figure. Ptolemy's memoirs are sadly lost, but Arrian, the chief ancient source for the Alexander story probably had access to the work. Try *Plutarch's The Age of Alexander, or Arrian's Anabasis of Alexander- Oliver Stone is not an authority on anything, except inaccurate historical film making.

One day I will run a CZcams agency that proactively scoops up guys like this and then reach out to History Channel/Discovery/Game of Thrones/Marvel/Product companies etc and get them gigs. @@dwzenix7954 The difference is that not everything conquered by the Mongol Empire was the work of one man. Alexander's Empire was conquered by him alone, many generals and sons and grandsons of Genghis Khan completed the conquest of the Mongol Empire.
Also Alexander did it much earlier, in a less connected world, with less information and less military technology and mobility.

Fantastic video ....Alexander at the age of nineteen he became the Macedon King and swore to free of all Asia minor...infact he became a LEGEND amongst mortal men. In the Aegeon sea in 334 b.C. he utterly beat the armies of Persia. Egypt fell to the Macedonian King as well and he founded the city called Alexandria By the Tigris river he met king Darius again and he crusched him again in the very famous battle of Arbela. The royal family came fron Argos of Peloponnese; descendants of king Timenos of Argos and their dynasty was called Timenides. In Old Testament 200-300 years before Alexander was born; he was prophesized as the first king of Greece. Indead till him; Greek tribes were divided and some of them had kings( for examble Macedonians; Ipirotans; Spartans etc or tyrrans as Corinthian or democraty as Athenians...). He was the first who united all greeks and after him greeks had several kings. Everywhere in Old and New testament are referred as greeks! You should be proud of your history as slavs and not want to steal others history!

It is truly remarkable what Family+Training can create. The life of Alexander was shaped by Philip B, his father. He is considered the first man ever dreamt of the term WEST as an opposing unified space vs the EAST (then Persian Empire). He made a superweapon of his era, the Macedonian Phalanx and made sure his son and the children of his nobles to be educated by Aristotelis. Alexander was grown having Iliade book as his loved one. Achiles was his Hero. And Achilles as we know, was the guy who had to decide, either to live in wealth, kingdom and relaxed life, or go to fight for Glory and principles and ideals and make his name eternal, though he was told that in that case he would die in Troy (by his goddess mother). These ideas and education fed Alexander a character that later evolved to the guy who established politically the WEST and made the Athenian culture the basis of its mindset. From India, to Egypt and Rome (these days small town), nothing would be same again. Rome later took over the same area and built on it. Great men also followed. But....Ceasar did great things and eventually came home, Konstantine, Augustus, All great men did great things and eventually came home. Alexander NEVER went home. When he left Pella, he never intended to come back. He was 100% devoted on his plan to make his father dream come true. There is a reason that WEST is what it is today. It was based on the life and dedication and sacrifice of many people. But if we trace back on WHO was the first who set the basic of all, it was Philip B and later his son. And we may not have found the grave of Alexander yet, but we HAVE the grave of Philip. And his armor. To visit it and stand next to the things that the man who dreamed and made WEST itself wore, is just life changing. The guy who in the forests of Ancient Macedonia, made the macedonian phalanx, unified the Greeks and went after the superpower of the time to say: We arent west of you. You are the WEST.

I was looking for a documentary on Alexander last weekend and I wasn't expecting that kind of quality content form a guy making documentaries on CZcams. I'm a serious history buff and have around 3000 documentaries in my collection. This really is Mainstream Cable Channel TV quality level. Fun fact about Alexander's conquest of Tyre that doesn't get mentioned very often is that Tyre was an island city several hundred meters from the coast. When Alexander built his famous causeway during the siege, that causeway ended up becoming a peninsula that reconnected the island to the mainland that can be seen to this day. Alexander literally changed geography by taking that city.

According to Justin, Philip married Olympias, daughter of Neoptolemos, king of the Molosses.
All the authors thus agree on the fact that Alexander the Great was the grandson of a Molossian.
For those who do not know this tribe (the Molossians), who were they, what territory did they occupy and how were they considered by the ancient authors ?
Let us stop for a moment to know more about the tribe of the Molossians from which the mother of Alexander the Great came.
To make it simple, the tribe of Molossians is in Epirus somewhere in the region of Chamerie on the back of Thesprotians who dominated the coastal part.
In addition to this, the Kaons who were in the south of present-day Albania and who constituted three of the great tribes of Epirus.
Historically, tribes like the Molossians or others who composed Epirus like the Kaons, the Thesprotians, the Paraue, the Antintans and others, are historically linked to the Illyrian (🇦🇱) culture or to a part of it.
As Thucydides tells us about the events of the Peloponnesian War that involved both actually in reality Illyrians and Illyria itself, these tribes were commonly considered barbarian (non-Greek) tribes.

Let us point out on this subject that the Albanians name themselves "Shqiptar", that is to say "sons or children of the eagle".
The soldiers of Pyrrhus (3rd century BC / Epirote King), called their King "the Eagle" and that the latter retroqued them one day that they were his "children", so the Albanians are the children of the Eagle ...

(Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable adversaries of the early days of ancient Rome).

- "Olympias was originally from Epirus, on the part of the father who was king of Epirus, on the part of the mother also and that Illyrian blood 🇦🇱 circulated in the family, there is no doubt. "

That the Epirotes are or are not Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved.
The Epirotes and the Illyrians have the same culture, if we consider the Iron Age, the use of tombs, fortifications with several rows of walls, their material culture, the shape of the pots or the ornaments which are identical to those of Korça (current Albania) and religion.
Not only ancient authors like Thucydides, Strabo and others have called the Epirotic tribes barbarians (non-Greek) but also later serious publications based on documents and archaeological findings point out the same thing.
The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and the sister .

As for whether it was an Illyrian tribe, this is clearly proven by ancient historians and geographers, including Titus Livy, Strabo, as well as Pliny who lists many in detail in the fourth book of the collection of 37 works entitled "Natural History", not to mention the great ancient geographer "Claudius Ptolemy" who also classifies the Lyncestrae among the Illyrian tribes .
And the later authors have the same attitude since on several occasions, they mention Eurydice, the mother of Philip II and the grandmother of Alexander, as being illyrian etc...

A single man with an army of just tens of thousands conquered an entire empire in 13 years and then we wonder why he's remembered 2300 years later... This is still unparalleled in global history, especially in such a short timespan.

Came across and watched many historical documentary but this channel is one of the best and my favourite.
Most of us can’t even imagine walking to the next city over from us let alone how far Alexander walked . Think about how far he went on either foot or horse back . No cars, planes , trains or even a bicycle. That alone is impressive before you even consider what he accomplished before many people these days even move out of their parents houses
