My dad died when I was 5 years old. He used to sing "Keep on Loving You" to me when I was little. REO will always be one of the greatest bands to me. Great Reaction!
And not just in the lead, either. All the short little fills throughout the song are just in the zone. I’ve always said that Richrath was playing with that Paul the way a cat plays with a mouse.
Hey, REO has a song called "Can't fight this feeling anymore", and it's a beautiful balled-esque song. I think you would like it, it's my favorite REO song.
REO Speed Wagon was a commercial truck line from the early 1900s. This is where the band got it's name. The REO truck line and Oldsmobile were named after Ransom Eli Olds.
5:16-Most of the 70's bands had 1 guy who took care of most of the solos..REO's advantage was they had great harmonies, a bad-azz keyboard player and an axe-shredder from hell..Hard to not love that! Plus their concerts were pure energy, more fun than a carnival!
You'll probably get this comment a million times but the initials are pronounced individually... R....E...O (not pronounced like the word Rio as in Rio Grande). But yeah, welcome to the REO rabbit hole. Great group!!
And they took the name from a truck back in the 30's or so. The REO Speed Wagon, pretty sweet looking ride if you ask me >>> cdn1.mecum.com/auctions/da0914/da0914-193839/images/da0914-193839_1@2x.jpg?1406845838000
VERY 1st band I ever saw live in concert back in 1974. They opened for everybody until they got their footing as a headlining band. Gary Richrath (RIP) is a GREAT guitarist and a little under appreciated. Watch some of the live videos from back in that time. Richrath left the band about 1990. He and Kevin Cronin (singer) were the heart of the band wrote most all the music.
i saw REO in hoopston illinois . they were the back up to FRIJID PINK . FRIJID PINK had to leave early so REO became the main band . the crowd loved it because the really came to see REO .
Saw them back around same time at our towns baseball field along with some other bands. . .still have the flyer for the event. Love REO and fact they're from my neck of the woods is great too.
This song is the ANTHEM of my teen years and on......Every single wall I hit, decision that needs made, I hear this song in my head. "So if you're tired of the same old story........Turn some pages." It has moved me forward my whole life! I saw REO at what was then called the Rosemont Horizon in the Chicagoland area, early 80's. It was simply fantastic! Loved your reaction. I pronounce Illinois just like you do. LOL And was born and raised in the Chicago area! Thank you so much!
Another fantastic rock band from my youth! There was something special with music from the 70s thru the 90s. And best of luck with the new job!!! My dad's generation was one of the last ones to work for the same his entire adult life. When I was working studies said I'd work 10 jobs in my lifetime. They were pretty close.
You are the only person that will react to people who aren't as famous as they would like to be I was scrolling one day during the pandemic and ran across three guys in their living room singing Under the Boardwalk with only a cello and small keyboard it blew my mind it was so clean and beautiful sounding since then I have discovered how truly talented this guy's are anyway their bands name is The California Honey drops and you will be missing being a witness to something extraordinary if you don't listen to them just one time.
This was one of my favorite songs for a minute. I love the change over from Neil on the piano/keyboard to Gary guitar.😇 Too bad the "changes" they were talking about was their change in their overall product with "Hi Infidelity" It got them their well-deserved millions,🤑🤑 but was a drastic change to the dark side of HI. I bought the album the day it was released. Listened to it twice and sent it to my 12-year-old sister and said, "you're gonna love this". She didn't. She couldn't even believe it was REO. They're still touring. THIS was the good stuff. It's a crime they're not in the R&R HOF A few other great REO late 70's check out "157 Riverside Ave", "Golden Country" and "Ridin' the storm out".
Went to school with the bass players brother. Meant them many times. Great down to earth guys. They started playing at a bar called Red Lion on U of I campus. One of the most under appreciated bands. Love your stuff sir. You have turned me on to some great music. Keep it up and god bless you and your better half.
It was fantastic to watch you discover a song I've jammed to since the Carter Administration! At 65 I still regularly enjoy "Tuna Fish" AND 1980's "Hi Infidelity".
Their album "Hi Infidelity" scored FIVE top ten hits in 1982. I believe it was Album of the Year. A few years later, they had a few more huge hits, including "Keep on Loving You". This band was around for fifteen years before breaking out into Rock Royalty. Its amazing that they lasted so long (fifteen years) before making it big. They were a regional favorite in the midwest, had a few modest hits like this, went through several record labels, and hung in there until "Keep on Loving You" topped the charts in 1982. They followed their dreams and hung in there for year after year after year and finally made it big. This song is much bigger now than it was the year it was released so many years ago. Moral of the story is don't give up on your dreams.
OMG, I grew up with reo. Listen to Golden County, Son of a Poor Man. All of their stuff was and still is awesome unfortunately Gary, lead guitar 🎸 passed away a few years ago. I saw them countless times!!!!! You're missing out!
The 80s, they were mostly ballad boys, but in the 1970s, when I was a teenager, and when they started when I was only 5 years old, they rocked out hard. All the songs in the album this came off on our fire. Check out all the songs on the 9 lives album. From seventy nine ride in the storm out Live incredible.I think the live album was called. You get what you played 4.This was back when they really jammed
I have seen these guys live so many times I've lost count. The last time was in Portland Oregon were I was mauled fighting for one of Kevin Cronin's guitar picks, it's still one of my prize possessions. Gary is still one of my favorite guitar players to this day. May he rest in peace.
Sebs you can look at REO two ways , pre Hi Infidelity and post Hi Infidelity or 70's REO and 80's REO. In 1980 they released their ninth studio album called Hi Infidelity , it became their breakthrough album. They were a 10 yr overnight sensation. The 70's REO had great songs like 157 Riverside Avenue , Golden Country , Time For Me To Fly , Keep Pushin and Riding The Storm Out. Then 80's REO had songs Don't Let Him Go , Keep On Loving You , Take It On The Run and I Can't Fight This Feeling. Gary Richrath , the lead guitarist , played a Les Paul exclusively that i know of. Never seen him play a different guitar. R. I. P. Gary.
The very second I hear this song, I'm instantly happy. Same with "Spirit of Radio" (Rush) & "Never Been Any Reason" (Head East). Gotta do "Golden Country", "Ridin the Storm Out", "157 Riverside Avenue" and live versions are best.
Saw a lot of music festivals back in the day when they were plentiful and affordable. REO was always the common denominator. Must’ve seen them 5 times. A couple of times with Richrath. Always put on a good show.
Gary Richrath, lead guitar player, uses a Gibson Les Paul. He's WAY underrated!! "157 Riverside Avenue" is a great tune! React to that song! My first album in 1977 was REO Speedwagon Live.
Great tune!! Plz, do urself a favor and listen to "I wish you were there". Off "Hi in fidelity ". Great song never played on the radio. Old time gospel feel to it. U wont be sorry.
One of the all-time favs. You can’t play it too loud. It’s also a classic air band piece. (Remember when that was a thing?) Guitar, keyboard, drums… Classic. And +1 on Ridin’ the Storm Out. High school football team fight song outta southern Colorado back in the day.
You have absolutely got to hear the live version of riding the storm out. From the live album you get what you play for. You have got to dig in to that rabbit hole because that album is fan fantastic one of the best live albums ever made.
Lots of great guitarists out there from back then but, Gary Richrath was & always will be my favorite. Watch the live video from back then it’s killer.
Listen to Golden Country from there double live album You Get What You Play For 1976. Gary's 5 minute guitar solo is one of the best you will ever hear and the song message is on point.
I’ve never heard this song before, but if you had asked me before I looked at your thumbnail, I would’ve guessed that it was REO Speedwagon. It just sounds like them!😊
The first album I bought after Basic training in the Army. Kevin’s adopted brother was our long time meteorologist in my home town. My son is friends with his daughter(the brother not Kevin.) REO Speedwagon would play our county fair every other year because of his brother.
There are people who can play guitar, and there are people who can master the guitar. Gary is in the latter category . Riding the Storm Out is a another banger from these guys🤘💕
Reo was a truck manufacturing company founded by Ransom E. Olds (REO) after GM bought out his Oldsmobile line of cars. The Speedwagon was the new company’s small truck with a cab and small bed. The first ever pickup truck! REO Speedwagon took the name for reasons unknown to me. BTW my grandmother’s two uncles and aunt were REO dealers along with tractor sales, regional bus line and Hotel. Their 114 year old six dealership tractor/heavy equipment operation was just sold to another larger company last year. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/REO_Motor_Car_Company
Lead guitarist Gary Richrath was so good, I just dug the tone he had. He would let loose with his Les Paul I’m a drummer but because a fan becomes of Gary.
This is a great tune, but I'd suggest 157 riverside ave (live) golden country (live) ridin' the storm out (live) Gary Richrath played a Les Paul...and yes, great tone!!!
Serious suggestion. Pick up a copy of REO Speedwagon LIVE. You get what you play for! Then you will begin to understand why this band was so great!!!! Enjoy!
If you're still looking for classic country songs to react to, here are a few suggestions. "Behind Closed Doors" by Charlie Rich, "He'll have to go" by Jim Reeves, "Old Shep" by Elvis Presley
YO⁉️ What state is Ellenwah ⁉️ 😅 Great Music, Great Channel Y'ALL!! Another Awesome (forgotten) Rock song with piano; LAST CHANCE by the band Shooting Star. GIBSON SG?? Ya the same model as Jimmy Page, Gary Moore and Peter Frampton!! 😉 Good job Sebs!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
React to Journey with Steve Perry. Ask the Lonely, Still they Ride, Castles Burning. They have so many other than hits of Don’t Stop Believen, Any Way You Want it and Faithfully.
Try Golden County, sadly the song is as or more relevant today than when it first came out, also 157 riverside Blvd, some seriously great vocal and lead guitar back and forth
I'm really just amazed when anyone says they haven't heard certain musicians of any genre. But I love seeing those reactions
I saw them in the late 70's. A band that is better live then in studio. Example: "Ridin' the Storm Out". ☮💚🎶
Yes! Please, please, PLEASE skip the studio version and do the live version of “Riding the Storm Out.”
My dad died when I was 5 years old. He used to sing "Keep on Loving You" to me when I was little. REO will always be one of the greatest bands to me. Great Reaction!
Oh, Jessica. I am so sorry for your loss. What a great memory to carry with you. 💜
Golden Country (Live), Gary Richrath tears it up on his guitar.
IN the 1970s R ,E O Rocked period ,,,,,,,,,,, In the 80s they stoped period
And not just in the lead, either. All the short little fills throughout the song are just in the zone. I’ve always said that Richrath was playing with that Paul the way a cat plays with a mouse.
Remember you can tune a piano but you can’t tune a fish
Lol. Great album though
When you listen to "Ridin' the Storm Out", use a live version of the song.
From the album You Get What You Play For.
"Riding The Storm Out" was one of their most popular songs my senior year, love REO.
Anything by REO is going to be fantastic. Two of my favorites are Ridin The Storm Out and Time for Me To Fly.
Yes! My two favorites of theirs as well.
Hey, REO has a song called "Can't fight this feeling anymore", and it's a beautiful balled-esque song. I think you would like it, it's my favorite REO song.

you have got to check out their live version of Riding The Storm Out.
"I love this song man!" That's exactly how I felt when I first heard when it came out. Great reaction.
Check out Ridin' the Storm Out....and Keep Pushin' by them.
Great choices.
Absolute musts!!

They have several hits. The production on them is top notch, super smooth. It's like ... hard rock gospel?
Gary played older Les Pauls almost exclusively. Straight into Marshalls (those were the days).....he adds an occasional WAH pedal now and then.
Saw REO a few months ago, and they still sound great!
I saw them open for Jeff Beck in 1974. They took a turn to popier stuff and lost a lot of us. Peace & Love while You "Ride the Storm Out"1
This was one of my dad’s favorite songs. He would point out the positivity, and the motif being repeated by each instrument.
LOVE me some R E O Speedwagon!! I’ve always loved Kevin Cronin’s voice. Brings me back to my childhood.
Great album start to finish.
Saw them a couple of times. They put on a good live show! The late Gary Richrath was an often overlooked and extremely underrated guitarist.
This was my first concert! I love them! Thanks for doing this one!!!!!
BEST album title EVER! But this is one of those songs guaranteed to get you a ticket while you're driving. My favorite jam by REO
The 80s, they were mostly ballad boys, but in the 1970s, when I was a teenager, and when they started when I was only 5 years old, they rocked out hard. My intro to REO was a club in Ft Collins, CO that used Ridin’ The Storm Out (live Cronin version) for last call. I was hooked!
I have seen these guys live so many times I've lost count. The last time was in Portland Oregon were I was mauled fighting for one of Kevin Cronin's guitar picks, it's still one of my prize possessions. Gary is still one of my favorite guitar players to this day. May he rest in peace.

I saw them last year in NJ.
As amazing as REO live in the 70’s 🔥
The very second I hear this song, I'm instantly happy. Same with "Spirit of Radio" (Rush) & "Never Been Any Reason" (Head East).
Gotta do "Golden Country", "Ridin the Storm Out", "157 Riverside Avenue" and live versions are best.
had that album back when it came out - a lot of REO is positive - always put me in a good mood when I would listen to them
This was on heavy rotation on the radio. At least once an hour. Great song.
REO is a heavy rockers quilty pleasure🤫🤘❤️ a well gel band
The amazing lead guitarist Gary Richrath played mostly a gibson les Paul standard but also us-1
This is the first band I saw live for mt 13th birthday many years ago/ Of course, chaperoned by my dad. They were epic in my time.
Saw a lot of music festivals back in the day when they were plentiful and affordable. REO was always the common denominator. Must’ve seen them 5 times. A couple of times with Richrath. Always put on a good show.
May I suggest: Golden Country, Music Man, Keep Pushin, Back on the Road Again, 157 Riverside Ave, Sophisticated Lady, Let Me Ride!
Gary Richrath, lead guitar player, uses a Gibson Les Paul. He's WAY underrated!!
"157 Riverside Avenue" is a great tune! React to that song!
My first album in 1977 was REO Speedwagon Live.
Gotta hear “Don’t Let Him Go.”
yeah Bro R-E-O Speedwagon is DOPE! We already know it! Enjoyed your reaction!
Good luck on your change's. Keep on Rollin
REO-don't let him go
Great tune!! Plz, do urself a favor and listen to "I wish you were there". Off "Hi in fidelity ". Great song never played on the radio. Old time gospel feel to it. U wont be sorry.
Came here to add my REO love ... and to recommend Ridin' the Storm Out for a future listen!
One of the all-time favs. You can’t play it too loud. It’s also a classic air band piece. (Remember when that was a thing?) Guitar, keyboard, drums… Classic. And +1 on Ridin’ the Storm Out. High school football team fight song outta southern Colorado back in the day.
They have another album called hi infidelity which is also a great pun. Worth listening to more!
The best have it loaded on my cars Playlist and really didn't load that many that I'd play the whole things over and over
You have absolutely got to hear the live version of riding the storm out. From the live album you get what you play for. You have got to dig in to that rabbit hole because that album is fan fantastic one of the best live albums ever made.
great driving tune!!
Lots of great guitarists out there from back then but, Gary Richrath was & always will be my favorite. Watch the live video from back then it’s killer.
A local donut shop had a donut of the week called Oreo Speedwagon. 😂 None of the youngsters probably got it.
It just sounds like them!😊
1St Concert I went to. Journey was the backup band then! Then the tables turned, and I saw Journey later, and R. E.O was backup ❤ them Both!!!
Check out KANSAS Carry on Wayward Son at Canada Jam live 1978. Great live performance of the classic song
Gary Richrath was an underrated beast on the guitar.
The first album I bought after Basic training in the Army. Kevin’s adopted brother was our long time meteorologist in my home town. My son is friends with his daughter(the brother not Kevin.) REO Speedwagon would play our county fair every other year because of his brother.
Only the Strong Survive. I could go on and on and on and on 🎉 two versions of Riverside Ave. Decade of Rock and Roll album. Too many to mention.
Tuna Fork....it's how we say Tuning Fork down South! ❤😂
There are people who can play guitar, and there are people who can master the guitar. Gary is in the latter category . Riding the Storm Out is a another banger from these guys🤘💕
R...E...O....👍

We all owned this Album!!! Too bad you didn’t react to the live performance.
Love REO
When yoy said give me that organ solo i thought to myself " he's going to"!
Now, another vote for "Golden Country" live!
Another great motivational song that will speak to you is Boston, peace of mind!
This is a great tune, but I'd suggest 157 riverside ave (live) golden country (live) ridin' the storm out (live)
Gary Richrath played a Les Paul...and yes, great tone!!!
This is my go to song when I'm in my car, i sing it at the top of my voice
Serious suggestion. Pick up a copy of REO Speedwagon LIVE. You get what you play for! Then you will begin to understand why this band was so great!!!! Enjoy!
If you're still looking for classic country songs to react to, here are a few suggestions. "Behind Closed Doors" by Charlie Rich, "He'll have to go" by Jim Reeves, "Old Shep" by Elvis Presley
Album title is the punchline of an old dad joke: "What's the difference between a fish and a piano?"
My cousin was married to Kevin Cronin. We were able to go back stage to meet them. Some of the nicest guys I've ever met.
My favorite was Time for me to Fly ! Me talking to my ex !
I saw them in concert a couple of years ago and they closed with this. What a way to end a show!
We could be here for days going through all of REO's awesome hit songs. There are just so many. React to any on the "High Infidelity" Album.
Oh no, Seb! The best rock and roll has piano!
Les Paul guitar all the way! What a great player he was!
Kevin Cronin can sing...I think they tuned that fish just fine lol...Checkout riding the storm out...
Absolute banger!
Golden Country live.
Most of their music is about going through the good and bad of life and relationships both good and bad with a positive message of survival
Please check out this group called Night traveler they are amazing. Great Music! The song stick around just came out they have a 1980s feel to them.
It’s t fun following your music explorations
R.E.O. Speedwagon.....named after an old fire truck in Illinois-I think.
React to Journey with Steve Perry. Ask the Lonely, Still they Ride, Castles Burning. They have so many other than hits of Don’t Stop Believen, Any Way You Want it and Faithfully.
Very talented musicians and Kevin's vocals pushed them to the top
Try Golden County, sadly the song is as or more relevant today than when it first came out, also 157 riverside Blvd, some seriously great vocal and lead guitar back and forth
It's an LP, goldtop
