Pro tip salt the steak at least a couple of hours before you cook it. The salt will move inside the steak via osmotic processes resulting in meat with a much more evenly seasoned taste, instead of a steak where the outside tastes seasoned and the inside tastes bland.
You can accelerate this process by adding something acidic, like white vinegar or citric acid alongside your seasoning. It also tenderizes a rougher cut of steak. Don't let a steak sit too long in anything acidic though, more than a couple hours is too long. I wouldn't do this for anything expensive, but for cheaper cuts or for something like a pot roast it can be a good method to tenderize and add flavor.
Facts, it'll also draw out the moisture, but then as it penetrates draw DOWN the moisture deep into the steak, if you salt say 10 minutes before grilling (the worst thing you can do.) all it has time for is to draw moisture out, and then it's vaporized in the pan/grill, and that sucks because exterior moisture is the enemy of good browning!
@@djjazzyjeff1232 I came to say the same. Either salt hours in advance if you have time, or right when the steak goes on the heat. Never in between.
Edit: hard no on the pepper. Pepper burns on high heat. Pepper after cooking if you like it.
Good ol' Osmotic Jones
Yes. Pan seared, butter garlic, thyme and rosemary. You don't even need the oven finish.
I love the fact everyone that fights Wayne becomes his friend afterwords. You can't hate the guy.
When Wayne goes into a group scrap, half the guys backing him up are ones he fought in the past.
FR, they really nailed that part. The people you respect the most aren't the ones that are "super nice" usually. And some of my best friends started off on the wrong foot with me.
Wayne is Goku, confirmed
"iwillstrikeyou..."
"blashpemy."
"Doyawanna get striked?!"
😂😂 that part gets me every time
Life lessons from LetterKenny...one steak at a time.
I'm all about the Montreal steak spice, but I also like s&p, on the bbq (that's for beef). My dad's a moose hunter, so when it comes to moose steak, in a cast iron pan, lots of butter, salt and pepper. Then we scoop that melted butter and pepper mix on our potatoes. Yum
I liked the workshop set better, you guys got to come up to Colorado and we'll show you how to do a steak for real. You got a wood fire it, and wood selection is key mesquite is best followed by hickory applewood it's a close third. First side down bare, flip after 2 minutes, watch for the blood bubbles they'll start on the edges and move to the center, that'll tell you where you're at from rare to well. Don't feel bad, ranching is what we do out here. Much love and I look forward to more videos! 👍
I must have been away for too long. I missed these letterkenny reactions. They are effing hilarious.
Letterkenny is hilarious. One of my favorite shows.
If the chef is one who cooks a lot of steaks (and does it very well)??
It's gotta be Blue Rare for me. Blue with a nice sear and some mashed potatoes. Mix the blood/juices in with the mash? I'm in heaven
Nope. I reverse sear. Start in the oven to just below temp. Sear in the cast iron after.
That's playing with fire unless you've got a real thick cut steak, which are hard to find around me unfortunately.
@@djjazzyjeff1232 thin steaks are fine with just a sear on the cooktop, of course. Love the throwback name btw.
@@shelaughs185 Lol. My sht ain't workin I gotta try somethin else, I'll do that maybe
I start in the oven for 5 min....then sear for 5 min on each side....flip once....s&p/garlic cloves/...rosemary optional
i've definitely had this conversation with friends before. pan, salt. once had someone ask me what spices i used. salt. but not too much
Great channel guy's
Well now this video has given me a whole new idea of content to send you seeing as how this could be a trigger topic…imagine watching all the Tik Tok compilations of cooking steaks the wrong way. I can just imagine the torture that would be for you both, unless you see Gordon Ramsay react to those, his roasts of ppl are hilarious as always lol 😂
Probably gonna paint a target on myself here, but who cares. I haven’t eaten red meat in ages, decided to go pescatarian as, since I’m west coast, could not live without seafood, and just recently added poultry back so no longer true pescatarian. In my defence though, more cows for the rest of you so you’re welcome! 🍻🇨🇦
almost being made to not eat meat with the prices now!
@@jerzeyguy71 I know right! I can usually catch my seafood here and have access to fresh produce locally so I’ve been making use local here on the island
@@jillians1138 what Island? I am on east coast in New Jersey, close to NYC
@@jerzeyguy71 on the coast opposite from you. Vancouver island, BC, Canada eh 🇨🇦
And on that note I would love to try Atlantic faves like the lobster sandwiches and clam chowders when I finally get there! It’s like salmon, halibut, oysters and prawns are our staples, but you guys are famous for the others!
Salt, yes. Pepper, no. Just salt. Don't put any other seasoning on the steak until it's mostly done. Pepper and other shit is just gonna burn if you put it on before cooking.
That's a myth, you can pepper it whenever it tastes the same. I've seen blind tests done, literally nobody can tell the difference.
Can I tell you guys I appreciate your existences
If you want the best steak ever
Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder
Sous vide for 2 hours at around 130°F.
Take it out
Lightly Pat the outside dry with a paper towel
Pan sear the exterior in a hot cast iron skillet to get a good crust on the outside of the steak
Make sure to sear the fat cap too
Let sit for 2 minutes
Cut and serve
Now that's just over handling bud.
@@Peglegkickboxer not even close
Try it and you’ll know
@@UnlicensedOkie idk sous vide beef tho. beef needs smoke and fire for me
Pitter patter lets get at 'er!
PBR,yeah buddy!
A good way that's different for a steak is to throw it on a smoker for 20-30 then in the pan for the crispy outside
No maple syrup ? 😂
ribeye reversed sear in the smoker with lots of SPG aged 24 hrs
This is the weirdest fucking show, and I love it for that. I become a Canadian for a little bit when I watch.
As a South African I like to bring a point of order to this argument. 1. BBQ is all good and well but a Braai is by far better. 2, there are two schools of thought to making the best steak, one is a S&P, 2 to 5 minutes on each side, no flinching. And the other is cave manning it, no salt, no pepper, straight onto the coals for 3 to 4 minutes, scrape what coal you can off the meat, let cool for a minute and eat. Bound to put some hair on your chest. And if you're a real panzie you'll put some 5 gun spice on that baby, cook it for 4 minutes on each side, bitch that it's over cooked and eat it like you're the late queen of england whilst sipping wine with your mother in law that hates your guts but you're too afraid of her to ask for a mans meal and a good beer.
That is one way to negotiate.
Lol Boys, being a three star michelin trained chef , I'd rather eat feckin dog food then what yer describing eh? Ever hear of the "Law of Thermodynamics?"
Yo Chris, osmotic process is right on, only apply that technique right before flipping. I.E. Law of thermodynamics, also let the steak rest for 5 minutes to allow the heat transfer to draw the seasoning into the meat as the temperature equalizes
I agree with your steak recipe.
Yes Sir !!!??
Nope, on an enamel cat iron griddle is the best surface to cook a teak!
I cook it on my hibachi grill.
Skip the rose, Mary.
I think I've asked before, I watch but a few Canadians on here, can you watch Strange Brew?
Better be 'Berta beef!
My view on it is that Wayne is getting a steak dinner for free, so he should keep his mouth shut unless it's getting cooked past medium!
Imagine having Mark Zuckerberg as a neighbour. Cool, eh?
I figure most Canadians would add Canola oil and Catsup. :)
Wayne would say, "It's ketchup. If you have a problem with the name, then you have a problem with me. And I suggest you let that one marinate."
Ouch lol
No self-respecting Alberta would
No open fire using hickory, salt, pepper, butter. Finished it should be bleeding and trying to run away. Why because Oklahoma.
People get their panties in such a goddam twist about steaks ...grill me a burger or some fish anyday ...🇨🇦
A burger is just steak but different.
Inside, frozen too much oil, flip twice, form crust oven finish
Outside, on barby flip every sip of beer till it looks like it was nailed to a tree in a bush fire, like it fell asleep smoking in bed
#principallewis
We will :)
@@CanadiansReact Thank You. I know that you boys will like it and laugh hard.
S & P
Please react to Zefrank's True Facts about Proboscis Monkeys!
Sounds like overhandling there
PBR GREAT CHOICE ON BREW 💪🏻🇺🇸🇨🇦
Grill marks, bud
I'm not taking cooking advice from someone who drinks PBR
😂
I don't know if you have seen the Ricky Gervais show but if you haven't i really recommend checking it out the best part of the show is actually a guy called Karl Pilkington and Ricky Gervais think Karl is the funniest person in the world and he isn't even a comedian, check out the show and you will be glad you did.
awww, come on guys, if you are going to do such a short reaction, lets have like 3 releases then of short ones.. I know your time is limited, but make up for when you have 10 minute long reactions.
That was what I suggested with my red green clips, and actually back to back whose line clips would make an epic try not to laugh challenge!
Ha I knew this would get flagged by you Brian. We will do our best :)
either that or you figure out that you can cook steak over a wood fire and if you're good at it it's far better. unfortunately not everyone can come up with a 36" pipe firepit. suckers.
