- First Edition Arts organised and curated their third annual Diwali Concert Series on 4th October 2014. The event was sponsored by Union Bank of India and was held at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.
This year's headlining artiste was Pt. Venkatesh Kumar. He performed a wonderful Raag Durga for an absolutely spellbound audience. He was accompanied by Pt. Raghunath Nakod on Tabla and Ajay Joglekar on Harmonium. The concert was held at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.

I think the credit for making Pt. VK a household name outside Karnataka should go to the art loving public of Kolakata. I am happy that now Panditji is generally acknowledged as a top ranking vocalist in India by the connoisseurs of music. Did you know that Panditji routinely declines concert requests owing to his teaching commitments?. Teaching put food on his family's table when he was an unknown singer. Great people don't forget their humble beginnings simply because fortune smiled on them later in life. Thank you Kolkata for making him accessible to the whole of India

A brilliant rendition of the traditional Gwalior gharana bandish 'Sakhee mori' by Panditji. I have been attending Panditji's concerts for the last 10 years and he has never failed to amaze. For me he is the best male vocalist currently, undoubtedly!

I have listened to this performance tens of hundreds of times and yet I keep coming back to it. Such a heavenly performance. I like this pentatonic Raag so much that I have searched all the different renditions of it on youtube, but none come close to this one.
Taking nothing away from Pandit Kumarji, but I believe Pt. Rajan & Sajan Mishraji's rendition is certainly on par if not a tad more sophisticated considering the duo are and have to stay in unison/sync across most of the period.

Pt VK is the brightest star to come after Pt Bhimsen Joshi. There is a great spiritual quality to his music and it is certainly linked to his own great human qualities of humility.
My one year old grandson responds beautifully to Panditji - he becomes peaceful and joins humming in his childish way before drifting to sleep. I never imagined children tun so easily!!

Pt VK is a phenomena of our times. He equals if not exceeds the all time great rendition of this bandish by late Bade Fatheh Ali Sahib. It is a case of the beauty of music as sheer music at its best. We in Punjab simply adore such rendering of pure melody that so smoothly lends itself to the expression of our spiritual aspirations.

about 12 to 13 years ago one morning I heard "ondu bari smarane salade" in AIR and couldn't resist myself to get a cd of this ,but I didn't knew the album and the artist.I tried several ways one day I heard the same song in a roadside pendal of shanimahothsava where someone gave me the details,so I got the cd the very moment.From then onward I am not only a fan but a devotee of Panditji.I met him on several occasion and requested for some raga of my choice and for a selfi. He oblized with humility.He is very very simple and down to earth man.Apart from swaras he never mis spell the lyrics,that is his strength as a popular singer,he is great

He has released only 4 classical music CDs, rest of them are devotional; all of them by Sagar music. Each CD has 2-3 ragas, extremely high quality music. You can buy them at www.amazon.in/M-Venkatesh-Kumar/dp/B00IA0AX7M. If you go down to "Frequently Bought Together" section you will see other 3 CDs. For some reason, not much of his music is released on CDs, probably because he is too shy. I have searched all over for his CDs and I could find only these 4. I love them so much that I have bought 2 copies of each of them, just in case if one gets ruined.

He is gem of a Hindustani classical singer, equals Bhim sen Joshi another jem of Karnataka,hough settled in Poone in d later stage of his life.Durga by Venkatesh has no equals.His master piece.A top, re,ma pada mapada etc.
