Nuxanor I will admit season 1 and 2 are kinda too weird but it’s a series worth watching involving a beautiful world with amazing lore, please don’t give up on it.
Season 2 is fine. It's Season 1 that's like completely tonally different. Season 2 is just regular old adventure time in my eyes
One and two are still entertaining there's just not as much storytelling
@@dewaunwarren1 I don't think adventure time is as story driven as people think it is tbh. There's a lot of random lore episodes but apart from like the final few seasons, the show mostly does one off-episodes. After stakes is when they started doing a lot more story stuff. Though the season finales have basically always been pretty storydriven
UNACCEPTABLE!!😂
Honestly I kind of like how simplistic and goofy it is at first because it makes it all the more entertaining when it starts getting better plus it makes sense with Finn being like 12 or something lol
Adventure Time is one of those 2010's Cartoon Network shows that followed a specific formula: First season is chaotic episodic adventures, and from there on the episodes begin taking a subtly more serious tone with underlying themes and story lines sprinkled throughout it. Adventure Time was always largely chaotic with one-shots all over the place, but underneath you could almost see a string tying all of the episodes together, but it is almost impossible to actually grasp that string. It didn't start out as a master class, it evolved into it, and it was fantastic to witness it all.
Yeah that pretty much sums it up, though i would say it's maybe after 2 seasons that it starts to get more serious. Nux needs to see this though. The ride is worth it.
Another thing you could add is that the series gives you an "Adventure Time" which helps your imagination develop.
Man i miss when shows were made like that things like obviously adventure time, regular show, theres more but i just woke up not that long ago so i dont remember rn but nothing is made the same nowadays
@@lillith7257 yeah. spend two years making videos on one episode a day for a 10 season show. seems worthwhile.
@@grungefrog7840I think Steven Universe falls into that category too!
Man Finn really tried to prevent the panic at the disco.
Also Jake and ranicorn being able to speak Korean is still one of my favorite things
She was speaking Korean? I thought the creators of the show just made up a language or made her speak gibberish.
@@Tony_AM009 Yup Korean lol
She said "Anyang" when they opened the closet door, which I know is Korean thanks to the character Anysng/hello from Arrested Development.
@@Tony_AM009and they don't subtitle it lol I started rewatching this a while back while stoned and was like tf cause I always watch with subtitles and it wasn't translated had to go google everytime she spoke
*sees the joke and I write sins not tragedies starts to play*
Nux welcome too adventure time.
The journey of insanity,trauma,adventure,and tears.
You mean insanity, trauma, adventure, and time*?
That's the best description of AT anyone has given lol
The consistent plot start after season 1, its one of those shows that does the extremely smart thing of growing with its audience
The thing about Adventure Time is, Finn starts as a 10 year old and ends up as about 17 to 30.
I can't really think of a series that changes as much as this, as it literally grows up with it's audience.
Unless you're going to binge it, maybe stick to plot/lore heavy or super out-there episodes.
You could easily get a list of 40 or so completely mind bending episodes.
Minor correction: he starts the series at age 12 (Jake says so in episode 4).
But other than that, you're right about the "growing up" stuff.
However, there's still important stuff in those "filler" episodes; for example, the Cosmic Owl, while it first appears in _Prisoners of Love,_ is first name-dropped in _Donny,_ one of my least favorite episodes of the series. _Donny_ is also the first episode where BMO speaks.
And besides, there's fun in not knowing what's gonna come up later, and being surprised when it eventually _does_ come back. If he were to go through a curated list of only the most important ones, then not only would he miss on a lot of the time spent endearing us to the world, but he'd also be more critical coming into each episode (expecting something to be important from the start), which can set him up for disappointment if he over-hypes how important something might be.
@@MattTOB618My mistake.
I certainly agree that the journey's worth it, I just couldn't see him committing at that point. Glad to be proved wrong.
I don’t believe Nux doesn’t understand that it starts as a weird and wild kids show that’s kinda dark sometimes to a whole coming of age story that becomes a fight against the Super Devil
you mean one piece?
@@sarthakarora3212bruh
Nux I hope you keep watching. I feel like you’ll enjoy when things get wild with lore and all the callbacks start popping off.
Damn actually forgot the first episode was a zombie episode. It was nice how these 2010's shows started out like typical cartoons and then grew to have deeper stories. Watching Nux totally lost is fantastic content.
"I can't help it! Flesh is delicious"
Finn agrees, according to that one time he ate substitute human meat
I really hope Nux continues to watch and gets to see the true menace Lemongrab
Him not continuing this show would be UNACCEPTABLE
Just wait till he learns about the Lich.
@@Plazmasoldierthe fact they got Ron pearlman, Slade and Hellboy himself to voice him you know he's different.
@@brandoncastellano1858UuuuUUUunAAacEpTAAblEEEEeeee
the first like 3 seasons are kinda crazy they rope it in a bit but it has the sameish feeling. thats when the story starts.
Then it gets like.... Literal cosmic horror level madness
Adventure time can be summarized as “Kids playing DND and this is their story campaign.”
True, though it's more like Gamma World, especially once you find out about "The Mushroom War".
@@tonyleccese2102 no dude you don’t get it. It literally is what I just said as far as context goes. Writers words of the show. They are the ones who described it as such.
So there is no nitpicking which Ttrpg is most accurate of an example.
@@AspieMemoiresI've always said this was DND on acid, so with this it's either the mind of a child or a stoner running a wild ass campaign. That's the good shit I want at my table.
Adventure Time is a show where watching it burns off some brain cells, but once those are gone, everything fits right in.
A few seasons in, you won't even miss 'em!
It’s good to see that even a masochist like Nux will take a break from his kink and watch something as weirdly wholesome as Adventure Time.😊
You should watch it all
It gets weird at times, but the story and world are more than worth it
So Adventure Time starts out as a series of unconnected barely rational series of fever dreams, but as time goes on you find out that it's actually all connected and that the nonsense starts to make some sense. Still bonkers, but there's an internal "logic."
The story for adventure Time really doesn't amp up into the later seasons but it has a deep deep lure
I really hope he keeps watching Adventure Time! I'd love to see more, I'm surprised he's never seen it
I never would've guessed that Nux had never seen Adventure Time.
S1 and much of S2 are pretty fever dreamish but at some point it does start to lay down some consistent lore and story.
Yo it's been years since I watched Adventure Time. I remember watching it back in middle school! I remember finding it weird and reacting almost the same as Nux but then I really got into it. Omg PLEASE react/watch the whole series. I'd be so down to rewatch the whole thing with you Nux
trust me, IT GETS BETTER AS YOU WATCH IT
the beauty of this show is that as you watch, the show gets more and more mature, like its growing up
I binged this entire show a few years back. Its crazy but the lore man. You got to experience the whole thing to get it. It gets so good later.
I'm so glad he decided to give in to chat on this. Now we gotta bully him into watching Archer, Static Shock, and Legion.
Fun fact: in the pilot of adventure time pan later on will be rename finn was voice by Zack shada in 2007 and 3 years later when the show aired his voice change so they hired his younger brother Jeremy shada.
The more you watch the more emotional it will get, but there are a lot of episodes in each season
It's funny seeing how much Nux has developed to love this show now. It's like he went through a whole character himself from this first reaction to now (as of this comment, Nux is on S4, Ep 20, and now refers to this show as "Peak Fiction")
Its so worth the watch in my opinion. Yes things can get wild and unhinged but there is a history and development of all the characters embedded in this show that you slowly learn. And as someone who has an interested in villains, I am curious what you think of them.
Something really cool about adventure time Is that it starts off as pure insanity, but it’s told through the lens of a kid who just wants to have fun with that insanity, and as he ages, matures, and behind to understand what’s really going on in the world around him the show gradually opens up to reveal the same to the audience, and as we learn more that way it recontextualizes nearly everything we’ve seen in the show before. And it dies that so often that by rewatching the show again after the end of every season you will continuously find more and more that you didn’t understand properly or missed altogether. It’s a true work of art, wrapped in a cloak of the purest insanity.
Fun Trivias about this episode
This is the first time Finn uses a catch-phrase.
This is the first time Lady Rainicorn speaks Korean, instead of the bird language she used in the animated short.
Princess Bubblegum's laboratory has a miniature version of one of the Gumball Guardians.
A zombie Finn can be seen in this episode. It is not mentioned by any of the characters and is not part of the plot.
When Jake and Lady Rainicorn's time in "7 Minutes in Heaven" are up, Jake comes out eating what looks like a jelly doughnut.
This is Finn's first appearance after being renamed from "Pen."
Episode connections
Not giving you too much spoilers since your new, in a future Season there's a sequel to this episode.
Cultural references
When the first candy zombie tries to bite Princess Bubblegum, it says "Gimme some sugar, baby," quoting Bruce Campbell's character, Ash Williams, from Army of Darkness.
When Finn says, "Blockado, The Game of Barricades," this imitates common marketing slogans for classic board games (for example, "Risk, The Game of Global Domination").
The games "Truth or Dare" and "Seven Minutes in Heaven" are party games still being played today.
Production notes
This episode, along with "Trouble in Lumpy Space," aired as the series' official premiere.
In its original broadcast on April 5, 2010, the episode was watched by 2.497 million viewers.
The episode was originally titled "The Royal Promise" and later "Slumber Party Slaughter."
Errors
Starchy had exploded in the graveyard, but in the scene after Finn suggests playing "Blockado," Starchy could be seen with all of the other Candy People. However, this could just be a graphic description of what would happen should candy people suffer extreme fear.
When Jake was surprised and the castle became blue, Peppermint Butler is seen without his white color in his tuxedo.
In the scene where the candy people are entering the castle, if you look closely, you can see Mr. Cupcake's wrapper is brown before the Truth or Dare part comes along.
When Jake runs out of the closet, the jelly doughnut becomes duplicated. One stays stuck the door while Jake holds the other.
After all the Candy Zombies are defeated, Chet is entirely orange, Candy Cane Guy with no blindfold, Mr. Cupcake with no arms.
Bruce Campbell
The craziest cartoon lore is that nux, a cartoon man grew up never watching funny cartoons. In the v-tuber verse children grow up watching Amish reality tv shows.
NO SHOT YOU"VE NEVER SEEN ADVENTURE TIME!!! YOU? NUX? BRUHHH It's so good, literally one of the best cartoons to exist
No one is too old or too young for Adventure time, it hits that happy medium, kind of like Pokemon, it is insanely dark for adults, but cartoony and goofy to cover it up for kids. Like Gravity Falls, in fact pretty sure it was about the same time. Adventure Time and Regular Show, kind of the beginning of the end of Cartoon Network, now cartoons since, or at least very few since have come even close to these juggernauts or the ones that came before them. Definitely worth watching, 1st few seasons are just fun times, kind of like Gravity Falls and Rick and Morty, then it sprinkles plot in, and gets super plot heavy towards the end.
The only flaw to the entire franchise is well... little to no one liked the final episode, it felt rushed, stuff felt forced, didn't make sense (I know weird in a show with candy zombie people lol), and didn't feel like a solid ending that also left more questions than answers. Some specials would air later that eventually kind of make up for this, but not completely.
Noticed how Princesses Bubblegum said: “You promise you wouldn’t “frikken” tell anyone”. That “frikken” part was censored on CN (Cartoon Network). I’m telling you guys CN was censored like crazy when 2018 started! Or 2019, I might be tripping 😂
Adventure Time and Regular Show was some goated cartoons of the late 2000's
Glad to see this and watch it again from the start with ya
As someone who grew up watching Adventure Time, seeing you react to the absolute absurdity of it is hilarious, and this show has definitely grown up with its fans. I'd recommend skipping season 1, as you dont really get alot of lore from it, and most of the cooler characters are introduced in it.
I’m in season 7 trying to rewatch everything before watching F&C so this’ll be fun.
Why is nobody on this site capable of sorting their playlists?
1. Open Playlist
2. Top Left click sort

The playlist is sorted, people don't have to fish around for sequential episode.
On the tone and deep lore. The sad truth is episode 1 has turned off so many people from this show as it doesn't follow the usual set up the world and conflict that a first episode normally does so gives the impression it's random nonsense. And most of season 1 is like that. But read between some lines and look at the backgrounds and they hint at the darker truth that will be spelled out later. Which I too had to be told that to keep going. It's kind of like YuYu Hakusho, the first arc is so different from the rest of the show and so much slower that fans of the battle anime genre are so often quick to lose interest in that first season.
Make sure to upload every episode to your channel, thank you, love you man
Here is a quote from one of the best villains not only from this show but all animated media: "Fall. Ha, ha, ha. You are alone child. There is only darkness for you, and only death for your people. These ancients are just the beginning, I will command a great and terrible army. We will sail to a billion worlds. We will sail until every light has been extinguished. You are strong child, but i am beyond strength, i am the end, and i've come for you, Finn."
He also has the same voice actor as Slade from teen titans
😂 Wow, this really is the most pilot of episodes. Can't imagine the giant gumball soldiers acting like these divine judges. Now they're just her big, dumb children. Even yelling to the Princess "mother, help me"if they fall over
It does take over two seasons before it goes beyond "I at least know some of these people even if I don't know why they're doing this now" to "I understand where this is coming from". And eventually there start to be clear stories running off that you're just not following and probably won't see the endings of, just a few random moments alongside, but the whole is starting to feel coherent so it's okay.
Nuxyboy I swear to god it gets better breh lmao it's a show that grew in maturity with its audience. It's like experiencing childhood again. Youre watchin this kid mentally grow from a child to an adult. There are plots and sub plots and arcs and death and learning to be ok with not being ok, and learning how to take rejection responsibily and everything bro. The plot gets meaningful and you'll miss all the wacky goofy lil characters when they die or when the show ends, and it deals with mental health dementia and more breh. Trust its worth lmao
I watched some of Adventure time when I was 9-13 years old or something like that (I know for sure that I watched some of seasons 1-3), but I'm sure that I haven't seen everything (for an example this episode)
I do however know what happens at the end of the series! So I hope that Nux watches all of this series! :)
1. That's Finn's sock, he kicked mr creampuff so Jake smelled it
2. Rainacorn is Jake's girlfriend, not a hooker. Jake is Finn's brother (he was adopted by Jake's parents, he is the only human around)
3. The lore of this episode never comes up again, but the lore of later episodes does matter somewhat and it does make sense (just ignore season 1 lore for the most part).
4. The target audience is anybody, the jokes are told in a way even kids can watch all the time, but it is kinda for adults in some episodes (like all good family shows should be)
Love seeing every Adventure Time reactor start out absolutely confused when they start Adventure Time for the first time.
The lore is amazing, but being high definitely helps. But it will take a while before understanding what the glob is going on.
Also it was crazy entertaining to watch Nux lose his mind over this
Season 1-4 are it's rise, season 4-6 are it's fall and regrowth. 7-10 is it's ascension
Nothing in the first episode comes up again. Candy people dont explode and the gumball guardians are princess bubblegum's children
Fun fact, theres another show which is in the same universe as adventure time called bravest warriors, saberspark did a video on it aswell. The meme ,"you're my friend now, we're getting soft tacos later" is a quote from a character called catbug in bravest warriors :D
Adventure Time is kinda all over the place, but there is lore. The show gets more plot-driven over time, and It goes 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽.
I almost dropped adventure time part way through season 2 but it really picks up around season 3 and gets INCREDIBLE
"Give me some sugar baby." Was an Evil Dead Reference.
The episode "I remember you" still makes me tear up a little. Very good episode. but thats a later season episode.
Nux: Is this for cracked out adults or narcissistic children?
Me: Yes.
Watching Nux reaction made me remember why I loved adventure time.
Oh this is gonna be a trip, hope you're ready to be pulled in Nux
the first seasons are a bit of "lol random" humor because they needed to settle their space into the network,so they needed to get children to love it. but once they start doing actual story lines, ooooh boy things get good
God, I remember watching this episode when it dropped years ago. Idk what was going on but I was invested
That was jarring! I remember Adventure Time feeling aimed towards kids and Pre-Teens. Now it does feel like it's for cracked up adults!
If I had a nickel for every time a show premiered with a zombie apocalypse, I'd have two nickels.
I can't believe I never saw your reaction to the first episode until now!!
Enjoy the ride, Nux. 😎🚗
I just realized they could've brought root beer guy back the whole time and he wouldn't have been filled with dirt
that feeling of sustained madness your feeling is normal nux. this shows not for everyone but its good fun when you want something wholesome thats actualy done competantly... its like if steven universe was made by someone with talent... or star vs the forces of evil... except its for people slightly older than small children... im mocking these shows though actualy enjoy them, but they have theyre flaws and weaknesses.
The evolution of this series is so good
I would love to see his reaction to Steven Universe, it'd be so entertaining, plus the gem ladies are fineee❤
Adventure Time is like Ren & Stimpy in that it's what happens when animators are given free rein to do whatever they want, except it wasn't created by a creepy egomaniac.
Nux this isn't episode 1 this episode 2
It is episode 1
Tho the Enchiridion was supoosed to be episode i think?
TWO word nux . That’s all you need to be invested in this.
The LICH
The dark one call us .
Starchy exploding will never cease to make me laugh
Nux this whole show is a fever dream trust me you that
I just realized why didn't the Gumball Guardians do anything about the zombies kind of seems like they dropped the ball on that one
They maybe they were statues before the Idea of the gumball guardians
Nux session 1 and 2 are most kinda filler and just introducing characters and their stories then after it's all character building and lore but you don't have to watch it all on stream bc there's like 8 sessions but it's so worth it! Love you man hope you stick with it
LET'S GOOO! BEST CARTOON EVER!!!!!!!
Adventure time was the starting point of many animators and cartoon creators. I think even alex hirsch might have done some work on adventure time before making gravity falls (idk for sure tho so im sorry if im wrong)
fun fact there is a hole hentai fan game based on adventure time that's an rpg on newgrounds, the creator is Nemusothoth
all though I "never played it"
There is a lore video you should watch to learn it all
ayyy finally watching adventure time. knowing Nux, he'll like the vampire goth/punk girl
And so it begins. A new Adventure Time fan has been born on this day.
Nuxanor, this show is for everyone
Wow all these years and I never put together Bubblegum was Starfire, wow what a weird trip.
I cant wait too see nux reaction on PB being raging dictator
The greatest series ever
The lore, in fact, does, eventually, makes sense
Damn bro, I remember watching this episode first air when I was at my Grandma's house back in 2010. Such a goated show.
Adventure time is one of the greatest long running cartoon shows out there but you have to be in for the ride for a while before things get really interesting and plot/lore reveals happen. So even if you don’t keep doing reactions to it I recommend watching it on your own time for a fun time.
I wonder if Nux noticed while watching that Jake the Dog shares the same voice actor as Bender from Futurama.
I hope that he watches this show enough to get to the episodes involving the Lich as well as those about "Fionna & Cake."
Please keep watching the show is up there with the best ever, the lore goes deep and does eventually get explained
Nux ik its annoying to be told "oh its pretty bad now but gets good later" but dude ima tell you rn they're right and its worth man without spoilers there's one main villain that shows up later that could only be described as an absolute menace to society
Down the rabbit hole he goes
Yea princess bubblegum and her kingdom is the most cursed lore of adventure time.........
This is one of those cartoons/anime I legitimately enjoyed while watching with my daughter! Honesty, it did involve a looooot of explaining! 😅
This is a show i respect the most
you dont need to be high to enjoy the show but it does add to the experience 🤣🤣🤣
Definitely remember watching this as a kid! And I definitely remember this episode!
YESSS FINALLY!
The overarching story stuff happens way later in the series. The first season or so is really to get the setting and characters in place.
Ive watched almost the whole series. Its honestly amazing. Weird as hell but AMAZING! Alot of lore and great character development.
Btw ive watched it high,it makes it even better. Im high right now actually😅🎉
You would also understand the lore by watching more of it. Theres alot. Its epic
