The coils, as you suggested, are for contacts for metal axles where one wheel side is live to the axle; that produces a very low rolling resistance; suitable wheels are available from Peters Spares or DCC Concepts who provide with the coil already fitted. Phosphor-bronze strips make better pickups for the wheels you have and will produce less rolling resistance. They are best placed to bear on the inside face of the metal tyre but can also bear on the rolling surface as well.

Okay, but what are those wheel sets called? I know what they are but how do you describe them when searching

      Peters Spares: PS82 12.6mm 3 hole or PS84 14.1mm disc.
      DCC concepts: pickups DCF-WP12; springs 2mm DCF-PS2.0 (also do 1.5mm & 3mm); DCW-W14S-OO 14mm (also do 10.5mm & 12mm) wheels with spring contact fitted. Hope this helps. 😃
