    My daughter in law’s friend who she has known since school, and who is an ICU nurse, has had her remit changed from 1-1, like Boris speaks of for himself, to 1-6 patients, that’s 1nurse to 6 critically ill patients.
    She is terrified that if more than 1 of those under her care goes to a crisis point together, she will be the one who has to make that gut wrenching decision of who to help at that time, just think people this highly trained young woman, who is a lovely human being, has to make a lousy decision which goes against her whole ethos of why she decided, at school, to become a nurse.
    This young woman wants to help people, she wants to care for the sick she nurses, but everyday she has to think that she will have to make a decision that could see the loss of her “pin” in normal circumstances.
    The “pin” she speaks of is the pin that signifies her registration as a nurse, and which allows her to practice nursing in the UK.
    Her husband, who also is a NHS clinician has just tested positive for Covid19, so she has had to go in to isolation, because of this, and now she has started to shows symptoms herself, that dreaded cough for one.
    My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every key worker, not just the NHS workers, who have to work to provide us with essential services, and who put themselves in harms way every single day!
    Well done to you all, and thank you from the bottom of my heart 👏👍🙏🏻

      Mia Cat because these times we are in at the moment, calls for unsuitable measures to be implicated.
      Not only that, these nurses are highly trained nurses, who are trained to spot potential conditions which can lead to a rapid deterioration in their wards, and because they are highly trained they can take the steps needed to nip these deteriorations in the bud.
      And because these critical care nurses are assigned to one patient only, they are there to react to any crisis their patient could hit, BUT if the nurse I speak of, has more than 1 patient, under her care, what does she do whilst tending one patient who is rapidly deteriorating, when another begins to show signs of deterioration also, does she is leave the patient she is attending to, to go to help the other?
      In ICUs patients, seconds count, not minutes, and because these nurses are so skilled, and are attending their one patient constantly, they can see potential crisis’ brewing in their patient’s condition, where they can take the necessary steps which could halt that deterioration happening, but if they have more than one critically ill patient to watch at the same time, that means a split of at least 50/50 (if 1 nurse to 2 patients) for the nurses caring for them, rather than 100% care that these patients desperately require need.

      Mia Cat the young woman I spoke of is truly dedicated to her job, that is why this decision for a critical care nurse, in an intensive care unit is desperately anxious about 1 nurse to 6 patients.
      What happened to you and your family is disgusting, however intensive care is completely different, it is 1-1 care, because the critically ill patient needs watching constantly, because the slightest change in that patient’s observations could be a matter of life or death for that patient, so urgent interventions are vital.
      And if there is the slightest sign that the nurse was lazy or negligent in any way she WILL loose her licence, or her “pin” as she calls it.
      There is no more highly scrutinised part of medicine than ICU is, and if your work is crap it will show.

    Ok here’s the thing. This man was in intensive care. I understand that they were probably being more cautious than usual as he’s the prime minister but he was in *intensive care* the intensive care unit is for people who are at deaths door. It is physically impossible for anyone at all to be in ITU and not only leave the unit but be back home in the time that he did. Idk what happened, but it just doesn’t sit right.

    • @LulaMae21
      @LulaMae21 Před 4 lety

      Not everyone who goes to intensive care is dying or ventilated, sometimes it's used for patients who need closer monitoring than is available on regular floors. I'd expect making that speech probably wore him out and he had to rest after, just due to the deconditioning that takes place when lying in a hospital bed.

    • @Katie-fi5zb
      @Katie-fi5zb Před 4 lety

      LulaMae21 in ITU the patients have two nurses who’s job is purely to just watch them. They don’t have enough staff to have two nurses just sitting watching someone who needs slightly closer monitoring. ITU, for just now at least, is manic. They don’t put you there unless you really need to be there.

    • @Katie-fi5zb
      @Katie-fi5zb Před 4 lety

      Jen Sablefur I understand what you’re saying, but they don’t have enough staff at the moment to afford to put anyone in a precaution, ITU patients have two nurses to just watch them so if you’re in ITU you need to be there, you’re just there as a precaution.

      Jamie Walton and DONT forget our postmen, where it has recently been highlighted in the news, that those at the top in Royal Mail hierarchy are putting profit before the health of their workers, and I for one can vouch for this absolutely.
      My daughter is a postman, and the local sorting office she works from is absolutely filthy, though RoyalMail claim they are doing deep cleans which is an outright lie.
      The radiator which is very close to her “frame” in her local sorting office is black with grime and filth!
      The frames the postman work from, which helps them sort their mail, makes it impossible for the workers to practice social distancing (my daughter walked out a couple of weeks ago because of this issue, she has asthma and is classed as having an elevated risk from this virus. When she returned to work a few days later, the managers had jiggled these frames around which has helped to keep some social distancing).
      Have you ever wondered why junk mail, from your postmen, hasn’t stopped in this crisis, which takes every postman to every single residence in the UK, thus increasing their risks substantially, it is because, if businesses cancel their order of delivery of their leaflets, Royal Mail take a 100% cancellation fee - that means businesses have to pay all over again, when they decide to resume leaflet campaign all over again, which gives little incentive to put postmen’s safety first.
      My daughter’s local sorting office does not have hot running water, which I find truly revolting, and there is no sign of that being put right fairly soon.
      Her office is inundated with packets, as postmen call them, but the managers still expect their workers to deliver every single bit of mail everyday, which is impossible, so in the face of this ginormous increase in workload many have made packets priority, just to make sure the residents on their walk get what could be essential items, like prescription for example, with letters taking a bit of a back seat.
      So, in all this, please spare a little appreciation for our humble, and forgotten rank of Postman, they too are doing their best to deliver a much needed service to the people of the UK, despite the lack of care from those at the top of our Royal Mail service.

      @@wazz1154 I agree, the postmen and women keep this country connected, I would be lost without my postman during normal times but more so now when I can't go out, my postman is like our family, we exchange xmas cards and hes like an uncle to my kids who have seen him nearly every week day since they were babies, out in all weathers and still a big smile and making time to share the letters and parcels out between my 3 kids to make them feel included. It was a disgrace that the government sold the royal mail to private big cats who dont care about its workers and their health, I hope when this is over some big changes happen and the so called "unskilled" workers are looked after, because right now it's the unskilled workers keeping everything going, minus the amazing drs and nurses ofcourse.
