Hopefully when this is over the NHS will get the funding they actually need.
But how much do they need? If they were given double their current budget it would still not be enough because it would be mostly wasted and front line staff would still not get more pay. My daughter in law’s friend who she has known since school, and who is an ICU nurse, has had her remit changed from 1-1, like Boris speaks of for himself, to 1-6 patients, that’s 1nurse to 6 critically ill patients.
She is terrified that if more than 1 of those under her care goes to a crisis point together, she will be the one who has to make that gut wrenching decision of who to help at that time, just think people this highly trained young woman, who is a lovely human being, has to make a lousy decision which goes against her whole ethos of why she decided, at school, to become a nurse.
This young woman wants to help people, she wants to care for the sick she nurses, but everyday she has to think that she will have to make a decision that could see the loss of her “pin” in normal circumstances.
The “pin” she speaks of is the pin that signifies her registration as a nurse, and which allows her to practice nursing in the UK.
Her husband, who also is a NHS clinician has just tested positive for Covid19, so she has had to go in to isolation, because of this, and now she has started to shows symptoms herself, that dreaded cough for one.
My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every key worker, not just the NHS workers, who have to work to provide us with essential services, and who put themselves in harms way every single day!
Well done to you all, and thank you from the bottom of my heart 👏👍🙏🏻
Mia Cat because these times we are in at the moment, calls for unsuitable measures to be implicated.
Not only that, these nurses are highly trained nurses, who are trained to spot potential conditions which can lead to a rapid deterioration in their wards, and because they are highly trained they can take the steps needed to nip these deteriorations in the bud.
And because these critical care nurses are assigned to one patient only, they are there to react to any crisis their patient could hit, BUT if the nurse I speak of, has more than 1 patient, under her care, what does she do whilst tending one patient who is rapidly deteriorating, when another begins to show signs of deterioration also, does she is leave the patient she is attending to, to go to help the other?
In ICUs patients, seconds count, not minutes, and because these nurses are so skilled, and are attending their one patient constantly, they can see potential crisis’ brewing in their patient’s condition, where they can take the necessary steps which could halt that deterioration happening, but if they have more than one critically ill patient to watch at the same time, that means a split of at least 50/50 (if 1 nurse to 2 patients) for the nurses caring for them, rather than 100% care that these patients desperately require need.
@@wazz1154 Most nurses run entire wards & are in charge of all the patients on those wards, equipment helps/alerts cases at risk & Doctors do the rounds. From my & others experience patience are left in poor condition while staff congregate round the ward desks, chatting, on their mobiles & lazy. The last time I was in hospital, I had no meals, nobody woke me, I lost weight & was ramming chocolate into my mouth a visitor bought me. My uncle was left soaked in a bed of urine, we kept asking staff if they could help him, they ignored us & carried on standing around, my mother was crying for a cup of tea, we took a flask for her in the end. Visiting my aunt, medical staff never came near her, instead volunteers spoke with her, we had to look for a nurse to ask about her condition. The stories are endless, I have no doubt there are good staff but like all places of work, you have the dedicated & the none dedicated. So, no I choose to clap all those who quietly get on with their work & don't expect Paise.
@supernumery Yes I understand where you are coming from I helped find the money for the first brain scanner a long time ago. The NHS belongs to the people and we need to win it back. There are a lot of people in the NHS who are in it to line there pockets at the expense of the patients. Privatising the NHS by the back door has to stop. Its now time to rack el some cages.
Mia Cat the young woman I spoke of is truly dedicated to her job, that is why this decision for a critical care nurse, in an intensive care unit is desperately anxious about 1 nurse to 6 patients.
What happened to you and your family is disgusting, however intensive care is completely different, it is 1-1 care, because the critically ill patient needs watching constantly, because the slightest change in that patient’s observations could be a matter of life or death for that patient, so urgent interventions are vital.
And if there is the slightest sign that the nurse was lazy or negligent in any way she WILL loose her licence, or her “pin” as she calls it.
There is no more highly scrutinised part of medicine than ICU is, and if your work is crap it will show.
So will he stop selling off pieces of the NHS, strip out the costly and damaging layers of middle management, and pay doctors and nurses properly?

The money tree comes from the economy, not from the state. The state has no money except that which it takes from taxpayers (companies and individuals) or borrows (which those same taxpayers have to pick up the tab for). Right now, those resources are fully deployed as the oxygen to keep as much of the economy as possible alive through this nightmare.
Ok here’s the thing. This man was in intensive care. I understand that they were probably being more cautious than usual as he’s the prime minister but he was in *intensive care* the intensive care unit is for people who are at deaths door. It is physically impossible for anyone at all to be in ITU and not only leave the unit but be back home in the time that he did. Idk what happened, but it just doesn’t sit right.
Not everyone who goes to intensive care is dying or ventilated, sometimes it's used for patients who need closer monitoring than is available on regular floors. I'd expect making that speech probably wore him out and he had to rest after, just due to the deconditioning that takes place when lying in a hospital bed.
As you said, they were being careful, in case Boris needed more help with he's breathing.
Monty Gill yeah I get that, but ITU is a whole other level of careful, they dint have enough ventilators to use one to “just be careful” if you’re in ITU just now, you really really need to be.
LulaMae21 in ITU the patients have two nurses who’s job is purely to just watch them. They don’t have enough staff to have two nurses just sitting watching someone who needs slightly closer monitoring. ITU, for just now at least, is manic. They don’t put you there unless you really need to be there.
Jen Sablefur I understand what you’re saying, but they don’t have enough staff at the moment to afford to put anyone in a precaution, ITU patients have two nurses to just watch them so if you’re in ITU you need to be there, you’re just there as a precaution.
There's no way he's out of intensive care that quickly bots

But wheres the money coming from? If you put more money into the NHS, are you taking money away from teachers, soldiers? It's a big desicion to make
Have you ever thought maybe it's not a wake up call that's needed it's a bigger pot? The country isn't a limitless money pit you know. There is a budget which our government has to work with and spread across all public services, it should occur to people who make statements like propper funding & increase their wages that maybe we as a country cant afford it. There should be a level of trust for the people who have these figures in front of them and have to make the decisions
This is coming from the same Boris who was not to long ago selling the NHS to the americans
INCREASE THE PAY OF THESE ANGELS AT THE FRONT LINE OF THIS PANDEMIC!
Side note: I understand increasing the pay of the hospital workers will start an economic recession and will increase taxes, but these people deserve it, but I do suggest not to increase their pay by much but just enough to make a difference in their pay like 2 or three pounds.
After the pandemic yes but now we Need to put money in the equipment to save lives
This is how to destroy the economy in the snap of your fingers
and increase taxes? No thanks
Too many people in this country dont understand economics🤦🏾♂️
God Bless the UK from your friends in the US... I've loved Boris since he was on Top Gear
I don't normally support him but I really think he's doing a great job on looking after Britain everyone stay inside and stay safe
I know a way you can express your debt Boris, STOP CUTTING THEIR BUDGET!
He's never cut the budget. He in fact rolled out vastly increased spending before any of this started! STOP TELLING LIES
He hasn't cut the budget, the conservatives massively boosted funding under May, think of her what you will
What cutting are you talking about?....the NHS budget is the highest it has ever been..here is the proof.

...he increased the budget only a few months ago....smdh...
Just remember everyone. That people in the comment section know far more about how to deal with this than doctors who have dedicated their life to medicine
are you saying doctors who have dedicated their lives to medicine don't comment?
Bongo Frenzy 🙄 think it’s safe to say that the vast majority of people in this comment section have not dedicated their life to medicine. What’s your point?
When he says all this nice stuff about the NHS when he wants to give it to Trump for lots of money
He was never going to, stop spreading misinformation. What you are referring to was a deal for the US to sell drugs directly to the UK instead of through the EU which has always been the case.
@@aknight1096 can't wait for when we get those American prices as well. I'm looking forward to the EpiPens going up 800% in price. That definitely won't have a detrimental effect on the NHS at all.
@@quigley61 Just like the EU negotiated its current drug prices with the US, the UK can as well. It's called a trade deal and it is negotiated by both sides. Please stop with the unnecessary fearmongering, think before posting.
i dont believe he was even ill . he just wanted a break
Paul M no cough when he had it just before he went in talking fine. then hospital for a week. then the day he comes out talking fine no cough again doing well for someone that supposedly has a deadly respiratory virus 🦠 I had the flu a few years back I couldn’t talk was in bed most the time even that lasted over a month 👍🏻
Think of the shop workers meeting 100s of careless people putting them at the same amount of risk as nhs workers so my thanks go out to your amazing shops
I dont understand why they dont wear face masks. Their employers should be supplying them.
Jamie Walton and DONT forget our postmen, where it has recently been highlighted in the news, that those at the top in Royal Mail hierarchy are putting profit before the health of their workers, and I for one can vouch for this absolutely.
My daughter is a postman, and the local sorting office she works from is absolutely filthy, though RoyalMail claim they are doing deep cleans which is an outright lie.
The radiator which is very close to her “frame” in her local sorting office is black with grime and filth!
The frames the postman work from, which helps them sort their mail, makes it impossible for the workers to practice social distancing (my daughter walked out a couple of weeks ago because of this issue, she has asthma and is classed as having an elevated risk from this virus. When she returned to work a few days later, the managers had jiggled these frames around which has helped to keep some social distancing).
Have you ever wondered why junk mail, from your postmen, hasn’t stopped in this crisis, which takes every postman to every single residence in the UK, thus increasing their risks substantially, it is because, if businesses cancel their order of delivery of their leaflets, Royal Mail take a 100% cancellation fee - that means businesses have to pay all over again, when they decide to resume leaflet campaign all over again, which gives little incentive to put postmen’s safety first.
My daughter’s local sorting office does not have hot running water, which I find truly revolting, and there is no sign of that being put right fairly soon.
Her office is inundated with packets, as postmen call them, but the managers still expect their workers to deliver every single bit of mail everyday, which is impossible, so in the face of this ginormous increase in workload many have made packets priority, just to make sure the residents on their walk get what could be essential items, like prescription for example, with letters taking a bit of a back seat.
So, in all this, please spare a little appreciation for our humble, and forgotten rank of Postman, they too are doing their best to deliver a much needed service to the people of the UK, despite the lack of care from those at the top of our Royal Mail service.
@@wazz1154 I agree, the postmen and women keep this country connected, I would be lost without my postman during normal times but more so now when I can't go out, my postman is like our family, we exchange xmas cards and hes like an uncle to my kids who have seen him nearly every week day since they were babies, out in all weathers and still a big smile and making time to share the letters and parcels out between my 3 kids to make them feel included. It was a disgrace that the government sold the royal mail to private big cats who dont care about its workers and their health, I hope when this is over some big changes happen and the so called "unskilled" workers are looked after, because right now it's the unskilled workers keeping everything going, minus the amazing drs and nurses ofcourse.
If you really want to say "thank you", then stop slashing their budget
@Andy Frost His party has spent the last decade cutting fund to the NHS.
@Hadrian In line with population growth and technology advances? It's easy to mislead you if you don't understand your surroundings or the context of what you're talking about.
Find it quite weird that he supposedly recovered already and seems to be absolutely fine after being in ICU just a few days ago...
i know, my dad has been ill with symptoms at home, now recovering but still looks ill & has no energy.. he’s out of hospital and making a speech straight away
He looked well before he got diagnosed, he looked and sounded well on his video letting everyone know he had the disease, he disappears with only reports from others on his health status and then comes back looking and sounding exactly as usual. I don't believe he was affected by it badly at all.
I'm shocked the BBC have their comments switched on.
Glad to see the leader of our country has made a recovery.
China must pay for their deceiving behaviour.
China lied, people died.
Don’t express your debt in words, express it with a long overdue pay rise for those that saved your life.

Let’s hope he treats the NHS like it deserves going forward after the virus.
gareth vaughan He was always going to treat the NHS well because he is in office thanks to voters who were betrayed by Labour over Brexit.
Tbf to the guy within a week they’ve built multiple nightingale hospitals across the country and as boris says this it the beating heart of our country. He used nhs resources to get better, not private like he could have done, there’s no way he would do anything to jeopardise the nhs now when we need it the most.
China is Asshoe life time working class voters who voted Tory in the last election were not betrayed. They were the betrayers of the working class and their forefathers. They voted for greed misinformation and false promises and they rejected workers rights, trade unions balanced pay and economic socialism. They voted to bring on the billionaires whilst they stay in their estate houses. It truly saddens me.
@@chinaisasshoe9378 no the working class voters betrayed themselves, you simply only vote for tories if you're either rich or misinformed, if anyone don't know which they are just check your wallet.
Whether or not he has a change of heart it's going to be a lot harder optics-wise to neglect the NHS in the wake of this crisis.
For a start I agree with this man, 🙌🏼 love our NHS ❤️
I think i'm gonna cry... so emotional.
Pay your debts by funding the NHS even more
Ahmed Kilan with what money? Shutting down the country means there’s no economy
@@DavidThaDwarf £100 billion for HS2?
If it was world war 3, there would be endless amounts of money coming from somewhere? Think about it lool
@@DavidThaDwarf they just gave all MPs an extra 10K they didn't need? We're one of the richest countries in the world but you don't think we have the amount of money to get our NHS back to what it used to be? Bollocks. There are poorer countries than ours with much better national health services than us now...
Rebecca Salmon Yes the MP raise was retarded. But if the country is in lockdown much longer the economy will crash. Meaning no money and in turn no health service
Now give them an inflation busting pay rise like you've just given yourself and ever other MP once again ...instead of punishing them like the last ten years....
And give the protective PPE not lies like the health secretary comes out with
The bonus will come out of our pockets ....remember there is already a recession on the way.

@@Kube_DogRacist? ??What meaning does that word have nowdays? Absolutely nothing Nada,no matter what the PC brigade try now it has been used to the point of making it meaningless.
Let's see what happens next now. If nothing changed, it would be a huge humiliation.
Well Boris your failure to impose tough measures earlier meant that Sir Patrick Vallence could go on air 13/3 and say that 77000 people could go to a rugby match no problem and it was left to the organisers to cancel it and the Cheltenham race festival went ahead. On cancelling public events you failed, on testing tracing and tracking you failed, on controlling flights from badly affected countries you failed (and on that you are still failing) By every measure surrounding covid 19 the UK has been behind the curve and we aren't at the peak yet.
I hope whilst in hospital you explained in explicit detail, why exactly in the commons you cheered when you helped to block nurses getting a pay rise?
I didn’t vote for boris but come on it’s not like he was out to get nhs workers. He has a massive budget to manage and he can’t just give money to everyone. Which is why we dodged a bullet in not getting corbyn who somehow doesn’t seem to understand that money doesn’t grow on trees.
FirminoFan 101 your argument would hold more weight if the pay rise for members of the cabinet didn’t also pass... Also, I don’t remember bringing Corbyn up? And lastly, I imagine it’s planted in the same magical money tree spot that’s reserved for paying Furlough payments for huge majorities of private sector workers.
Glad you are feeling better Boris . Now the best way you can thank All the NHS staff and carers is give them all the equipment they need and Fast
After all this, give the money that you're planning to give to oil companies instead to the NHS workers.
Now that NHS has saved your dear life, return the favour by increasing the salary of all NHS hard workers.
