It's good to understand how GM made changes as engine designs changed. 😢
If it's one thing I learned about GM, there's three reasons they change something. One, it's cheaper, or two, the old part was defective, or three, to improve performance. Hopefully the LS3 and LS7 air intake assemblies were purely a performance decision (:-)

i built my own intake but still have the original maf installed. Im at sea level (14.7) and at WOT im seeing 14.2lbs so it seems your .5lb is right on the money for me aswell.

Put a zo6 air cleaner assembly on my 2008 base w/6.2L using only one an AEM dry filter. The zo6 air cleaner does not have the helmholtz chamber attached to it as does the base model. Thats the box to the right side of the intake tube.

Love your vids, shopping for my first c6, I have noticed the recent price spike in the last few months, do you think it will come down?
I have not been looking much since July. With inflation and other used car prices dropping materially - I think the trend should continue and take C5/C6 prices down somewhat as well. The GM Strike probably means C8 prices (and dealer "premiums") are likely to edge UP!

You mean the LS3 or LS7 Air filter intake assembly? I like that idea!
@@Toys4Life The later LS3, LS7 intakes are a great cheap upgrade for the earlier style LS3 intakes.

99% sure C5 Vararam re-uses stock MAF.
How high can your lift get the car in the air
High enough to sit underneath it in a nice cozy office chair and lean back and do whatever I need to do (without needing to look straight up and crank my head back) p.s. I'm 6'1.
