Best Budget Reel Review Catfish Sumo vs Piscifun Chaos XS vs Kastking Rover. In this video we talk about several different fishing reels. We take apart the catfish sumo and compare the insides to the kastking rover. I have a tare down video on the piscifun chaos xs already uploaded. All in all the catfish sumo seems to be an okay reel but for the price point I would go abu garcia 6500 c3. If your on a budget in my opinion the piscifun chaos xs is easily the clear winner.

not real familiar with sumo but i have two piscifun for a year now and for the price point i think they are unbeatable.
I noticed the 50 & 60 have the same power handle, Can you offset it from the middle so you turn bigger revolutions, or would you have to buy a new one all together?
After watching ur videos on the piscifun reels I went and bought the 50 for musky not much of a catfishermen but i have got a few nice one out the St croix river but i also subscribed to ur Chanel

How are you going mate.I have done some research and pretty sure the Kastking ,Sumo are made in the same Chinese factory that produces the Sougayliang reels.In fact Sougayliang also make one branded under their own name the XLT 40 ,50 and 60.Internally exactly the same as the Sumo and Rover you showed in your clip.Probaly a bit better because the drag knob and handle are bent inward more ergonically like the new Abu C3.The Chaos is made in another factory, is built with better gearing and isn't held together by those real cheap and nasty C clips.Where the others have gone down the path of trying to skimp with the cheapest possible components,the Piscifun although not perfect has at least made an effort to make the reel smoother and added design upgrades to enhance the reel,or same worm guide clip as ABu not some .5 Of a cent C clip, better,smoother gearing ,superior level wind system,handle ,finish and bearings.I own both and have used stripped,serviced them from top to bottom and have based my evaluation on this, my conclusion is for a budget reel the Chaos all the way .Cheers from Australia and love your channel bro.

My catfish sumo reel came to me not able to real amd grindy. It was bs. I loved the feel of it and the look but i tr8ed to make it reel in braid and even with no line it stopped reeling. It was shipped to me broken and I was afraid to reorder it. Sent it back. Hope the gearing in reels stop being Crap
I’m new to salt water fishing . I have been using open face reels for in shore fishing . Would you suggest these for fishing off the beach . I always assumed these reels were for deep water fishing .
I can cast quite a bit farther with a casting reel so I'm my opinion yes but it all comes down to personal preference

I purchased a Kastking Rover 40L for myself and a 40R for my fishing buddy last year. Both reels worked well last year but this year fishing line somehow went through the side of the spool and wrapped around the spool post. This happened on both models. The outside cover had to be removed to untwist the line around the post. This may be a design flaw. Beside this issue the reel works well but because of this issue happening with both the 40 R and 40 L, I would not recommend the Rover 40 model.
That happened to mine after some use as well. If you liked the rover wait till you try the piscifun chaos it's cheaper and way smoother then a rover cast better too
There is an adjustment knob on the side to bring the reel into alignment to prevent this from happening. Good luck.
Mom and daughter here started fishing at a local park. Last night my 72yrs young mom caught 32inch catfish and almost broke her rod. What rod and reel do you recommend. Anything not too heavy but strong. She wants to catch 30lb catfish.

Kastking has exceptional Customer Service. They are great Value for the price. For the person who just fishes , whenever they can get out, You cant Beat Kastking for value. Most Reel Companies Refuse to offer Left hand Crank on open face , or line counter Reels. Okuma and Kast King do.

Abu Garcia c4 has a plastic thumb button. I'm not sure I've seen a metal one myself on any Reel but sure why you would need it
Was just about going to buy a KastKing , just switching over from fly fishing as can't travel to flyfishing water, live near salt water..
according to the chaos title on piscifun website they say its withstands saltwater. You may want to contact them to see. If so in my opinion I would def get it over the kastking. Thanks for watching

This is two years later... How about adding in a Abu Garcia 6500 or 7000 into the review for us. I have been debating mostly between a Abu and Kast King but not real happy with a couple Spin casters I got from KK.
I have a video comparing the chaos xs side by side against the Abu Garcia pro rocket 6500. I have had about all of them. The chaos is cheaper then the kast king and it's way smoother and casts farther.
Are the bearing the same? Or are
They different manufacturers? Are materials the same? There are about 10k different types of aluminum. I mean you can’t say they are the same without knowing all this info
Why are the Swiss abus made so much better than the ones that Abby provides us in the states. Or should I say that are made in the United States?
The Swiss made can be purchased here. The ones that are not Swiss made I believe are made in China I'm not aware of any being made in the states but I could be wrong
I bought the KastKing Rover 50 I love the reel but have had issues with the line getting stuck in between the spool and the housing. The knob on the left with the numbers does not seem to adjust the tension on mine the knob will just keeping turning past the numbers 1-9. I have to use both knobs to center the spool. I did remove the line guide which helped a lot with casting. I just spooled up with Berkeley big game 40lb mono hoping the bigger line will not get caught between the spool and housing. Any tips for my problem or what I’m doing wrong would be much appreciated.
I had the same problem with the line going behind the spool on a jar I king as well. The numbers on the side are a guide. If you look at the tension knob it looks like a little arrow head on it. So if you set your reel up to throw 4 ounces of weight look and see what number the arrow is pointing at. Then you could set it up for 1 ounce and again look at what number it's pointing at after dialed in. So if it was pointed at a 6 for four ounces next time you throw four ounces turn the knob so the arrow is pointing at the 6 if that makes sense. I never use those numbers for anything myself i don't believe anyone does really
The side with the handle and drag adjustment knob also has an adjustment for the reel alignment also. If you give it a few spins it will close the gap and align the reel for you. Good luck.

I haven't had any issues with mine don't see any reasons why it wouldn't bring em in

@@carpandcatfishbaitstipstri7309 no point in doing any more 2 knob round reels. They're all the same apart from abu and.. That one abu spin off company that i can't remember. Try the old penn 9m. Some say it can cast incredibly. Some say no. I don't think it even has bearings which is interesting.

Can someone explain to me why the kastking rover has a spool tensioner knob on both sides of the reel?

Yes the way it's set up it uses two knobs to center the spool.

Kastking has a CZcams video explaining this reel. It is very helpful. Even helps with understanding how to use the numbers on the side.
The KastKing Rover atleast has brass gears that will last where the Picifun Chaos doesn't and they will strip
I'll kindly disagree Abu Garcia uses plastic cog wheels as well never had one strip on any reel I've owned with a plastic one now I have had cheaper reels with metal gears strip some are not created equal some are more like a pot metal and it strips easily.
@@carpandcatfishbaitstipstri7309 I ordered a Piscifun Chaos 50 from Amazon as well as the KastKing Rover,took both fishing a few days ago to Navarre Beach Pier in Florida,set both up with live bait using 30lb braid with 80lb flurocarbon leader,4oz sinker and 7/0 C hooks.hooked a King Mackerel on the Piscifun and within minutes the Picifun failed.Hooked a 75lb tarpon on the Kastking Rover and it worked flawlessly.
What happened to the chaos?

I’ve often thought that the Chinese reels were the same. All the companies do is order them with company specific colors and logos.
Most of them are the same just a different paint job.

@blackdeath5026 yes they are the lews and Chaos are nearly identical. Kast king and sumo are nearly the same as well.
All these off-brand reels are all around total garbage.They're all most likely made in the same chinese factory.
I have tested them looking for better deals myself,after fishing for nearly 40 yrs,there is no substitute for name brand reels...even their cheaper models.Name brands,are built better,out of better materials,have much better QC,cast much better,reel smoothly,etc. than even the highly overpriced expensive models of those off brands.
It is better to buy 1 name brand compared to 2 or even 3 of the cheaper off brands.Other than the name brands having better QC,materials,etc. they also are easier to locate repair or upgrade parts if so needed.
People need to stop wasting their $ on these garbage reels and save just a little longer,your wallet will thank you in the long run.I have reels that I still use that I bought in the 80's and early 90's,reels like Quantum Iron IR3,IR3WL for one example are tanks and still reeling in fish and never had a problem with them.My favorite reels are the Shimano Corvalus 401 due to the spool release,they're now 5? yrs old and have brought in a few 1000 fish already,I fish 4-6days/wk for the last 10 yrs alone.I tear down all my reels once a year (winter) to clean and lube.
One brand not listed in the description is Okuma.They're probably the top off brand but they are also garbage,I have a couple that I bought at the wrong time and wasn't able to fish right away.After using them a while they were out of warranty and are now nothing but paperweights collecting dust,they're not even worth locating parts for.
Stick with your brand names like Shimano,Daiwa,Penn,and Abu if you really want to save money.
Your testing is skewed. First of you start reeling after casting. Even though you walked after you began reeling in line, your sinker could have moved.
Second, the piece of shyte er I mean puscipoop is not the reel you want to be wasting any money even if it is cheap. I have used pos equipment, and if you are after big fish, you do not want one on your rod with that reel.
Third, kast king maybe the donor to the cloned catfish sumo but trust me...that reel and the catfish sumo I would take hands down over that pos piece of poop called puscifun.
Of you want a something casting reel that does not break the bank and has great performance get yourself the Abu Carcia catfish reel for $179.00. Another one I recommend is shakespear round fishing reel with or without line counter.
The only down side to the catfish sumo reel is the casting switch. Yes it does feel a little loose. But it performs alright from what I have seen.
If you get backlash when you cant see the sinker hit the ground, why would I use this for catfishing at night, and not a spincast reel?
Every cast you are fixing birds nests on the reel for what reason? It's night time, cant see the water, cant see when the bait hits the water, and someone decided it would be cool to use this type of baitcaster reel instead of a spincast reel?
The video was to show a maximum distance cast. They are easily used at night with no backlashes up until about 4 or 5 years ago I said I would never use a bait cast reel then I finally tried one and after using them It would be hard to go back to a spinning reel
