Ultimately the board of directors who also existed when Burke's vetoed Luongo trade are the ones who approve or deny any proper "plan" and hinder it. My guess is Brad Treliving moves into Shanahan's role and hires Jay Woodcroft or Glen Gulutzan for the next head coach position. Marner and Reaves to Calgary for Kadri and Markstrom.

I'm a Bruins fan, I think Matthews being out will actually help the Leafs. Leafs fans are in denial how bad Matthews is in the playoffs. Marner plays way better when Matthews isn't around. Matthews will come back in game 6 and the Leafs won't shiw up again. I think letting Bob & the Panthers stew for a couple extra days will help the Bruins in the next round. The Panthers had to sit for 5 days before last years finals and they got cold

Matthews apparently is going to be out for game 5. He is catching some heat for this, but I think that is being unfair. It has been brought up that Bobby Baun scored a game winning goal on a broken leg which is totally admirable. However, it may not be comparable to Matthew's situation.
If Matthews doesn’t play, the other players need to step up and pick up the slack. A team shouldn’t fall apart because one player isn’t playing. If they don’t do that, they’re getting eliminated tonight.

@@cmpaintball131 I don’t think it was the Leafs not wanting to play. Boston completely shut them down, you can see Leafs passes in the offense zone was broken up and they never got an opportunity to get a good shot. Against other teams they would have scored 4 goals.
@Skylinedude2023 it has everything to do with the leafs not wanting to play Nylander missed the first few games with a headache and mathews left the last game and isn't playing game 5 due to an illness. Guys who actually wanted to be there would play no matter how they are feeling. Not always,but this core of the leafs has sucked for a couple of years now,Very frustrating .
Marner and Samsanov are catching a ton of heat along with some of the other players. In addition coaching (Keefe) and management (Shanahan) are coming under serious fire. However, not enough is being said about the apparent deficiencies in the bottom 6 forwards and really on most of the blue line. To add insult to injury, the special teams are a complete disaster.
Steve Yzermam played on one good leg throughout the 2002 olympics. Get out there Mathew’s and if nothing else give your team an emotional boost. That’s what being a captain of a team is about.
I actually liked the guys showed some emotion it could be a good thing for the team, but this should have happened a long time ago!!

It'll mean pretty much the same thing as if he was playing. He's been playing up till now and what's the result been?
Fanatical fans are demanding that (at a minimum) Marner, Tavares, Samsanov, Brodie, Keefe, Shanahan, etc. be put on the chopping block. Even if that happens, I don't see Lord Stanley being on the horizon anytime soon for Toronto.

We need a rebuild. These are boys playing against men. They are like the Phil Kessel. Never the main guys you win a Stanley with, just very good supporting players.

Shocking to me they thought he could carry the leafs through the post season.
Goaltending has not been the issue. Both goalie have played well in playoffs. Leafs just need to play as a team and not a bunch of guys playing fast shinny. Leafs can’t use Matthews as a excuse if he does not play. Toronto needs to play better on defence and block shots and clear the puck out of their end and not dilly dally with the puck. Side note Max Domi is playing playoff hockey and some of the other guys need to play saddle up. I know it’s a lot of pressure to be a Leafs player in Toronto because your the most watched team but these guys also have the biggest fan base that get disappointed year after year. So if you can’t handle the pressure then go play in someone else’s barn and give some young up and comer a shot who wants the cup.
Matthews was a super star - but only in game #2. Leaf Fans have been in denial for years that Matthews is a playoff disappointment at centre. Why not move Matthews to wing where other snipers like OV, Hull, Matthews and Selanne belong. 😀
Honestly don't think the issue is Matthews so much as COACHING.
@@szahmad2416 Matthews only generates between 33% to 50% assists compared only to the current NHL assist leaders. So a gifted scorer like Zack will look good when playing with a talented Centre like McDavid.
But with a Centre like Matthews that has relatively weak passing assist skills - Zack didn’t look very good as a goal scorer.
Matthews is an awesome sniper & like OV - he belongs on the wing. 😀
