"Rattlesnakes"?!?! Back in the van.
The Abo ruins are a perfect example of why one needs to get off the interstates. Thanks for the visit, Russ, it is much appreciated.
So cool to be able to see these places without the crowds.
Wow! Glad someone preserved these ruins where people in the distant past lived! Thanks for stopping Russ!❤️😀🚙🤚🏿
My wife recently took me to her hometown (for the first time). In Kansas, off the highway down a long road, FLAT. nothing . Here comes a one light town about 10 blocks square. We visited the graveyard and paid our respects to her family members. None of them left in the town today. She showed me the one room schoolhouse and the block that her family lived on. Most of the block had been her whole extended family when she was little. The little gas station was still there, modern ,but still little. I'm a city boy from the NE.and this blew my mind. We been married a while and it helped me to undertsnd her a little better. Different times and different places. Like the travels you take. That little town you passed through made me think of this.

Amazing ruins. Built 390 years ago. What a treat out in the middle of nowhere.
Really interesting ruins. Bet it was something to see back in the bustling trade days.
THANKS
welcome to my home state New Mexico :-)
According to the mps website the Spanish discovered the town on 1581. The town had a population of 1600 in 1641. Pretty cool ruins.
The
spanish did not "discover" the town. They overran several local Native American villages and enslaved the people. They then forced the locals to build the church and other buildings. The natives were subjected to torture until they converted to catholicism.
starvation and disease wiped them out, whereupon the padres retreated back to the safety of Mexico.
It's surprisingly fun watching the van's shadow morph into different shapes as the sun changes
Morning Russ
I agree morning travel is great! Thanks you for another video, i enjoyed it!
Just south on 25 is Bosque Del Apache. Annual crane festival is amazing.
Beautiful country sided calm quite , Palliation ,noise, Crowd free. Like you video very much continue discover more sides.🌹🥀🌺💮🌸💐🌸💮💮🌺🌺🥀🌹
Wow! No traffic, no people... I think those ruins are haunted!! Stay safe!!
Morning Russ!! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing 👍
Man, those salt ponds are very unique, as well as the terrain.
If I owned that van I'd have it covered in magnets. I love buying magnets from places i visit. To me those are the perfect souvenir. They don't take up much space and last much longer than a T-shirt
You could spend your whole life in NM (which I have) and not see everything. Such a magical state. Thank you for your awesome video. :)
I don't know why but I really enjoy hearing the gravel crunch.
Well that was a neat place to see.I like seeing historical things like this
That area is a little hot now for me but Quartzsite in November. Rock and roll.
We always enjoy your narrative while we ride along with you! Luv the New Mexico terrain. Thanks again Russ - happy trails and safe travels ☆☆☆
Absolutely beautiful scenic drive. I am really glad that you took me along on this trip. You find some really incredible sights to explore. Most of these places I will not see on my own, so am really appreciative that I can hitch a ride with you. Have a wonderful nights sleep and see you in the early A.M. Stay safe and healthy. Happy trails and adventures. Looking forward to the next exciting adventure.
Love these little towns with their architecture & old buildings with construction dates in late 1800s or early part of 1900s, especially when the building have been kept up & not deteriorated.
Really interesting ruins; glad you stopped to view. We'll have to detour this way next time instead of heading N to Santa Rosa from Ft Sumner.
PS Really glad you took this route too👍
Hey Russ, I’ve driven from Michigan to Quartzsite the past two winters, traveling I-40 from Oklahoma into Arizona. Thanks to you, guess what route I’ll be taking come January? Thank you Sir!
If you get off at Moriarity on I 40 and take 41 to Willard before turning on 60, you will go right through there and miss the stress of Alq; really a charming area. Would always get off at Hatch to take that cut across to Deming too. My favorite part of the drive from MN to Tucson was always those two roads. So grateful to Russ for showing us this. thanks-
This saves me a lot in gas and driving time, and I can know ahead of time where I really might want to go.
Love this video! Just up my alley! It's beautiful. Thank you!!
Hey Russ, i will say you have inspired my wife and with our greyhound dog to go across 50 to 93 then north to Canada this September
This is a beautiful video. New Mexico is one of my top three favorites states
I get home sick when I watch your vids... my moms side of the family is from N.E. New Mexico, Rainsville to be exact. Truly is the land of enchantment! Thanks for yhe video
US 60 used to be called the "Coast-to-Coast Highway" as it ran from the Atlantic in Virginia to the Pacific. Now it terminates in Arizona where I-10 finishes the journey.
Hello Russ ,thank you for showing what people miss just driving the interstate highway .👍👍👏👏. See ya .. ✌
I appreciate you taking the time to share your adventures with us - so cool!
Thanks for the cool of the morning video !
Just needed a hot cup of coffee while enjoying the view with no crowds !
I'm loving the journey Russ! Thanks!
Thanks for visiting. Can’t get out even tho it’s not far from me.
Those ruins were fabulous! What a great find! I want to visit there!
Good video, interesting place 👍, travel safe.
Very cool.. The Pueblo reservation up in Taos is also quite interesting..
This is a great video, thanks for posting.
Your drone work IS outstanding.....
Very cool Russ!!!! What a way to wake up in the morning. This is a awesome state to travel threw and I hope you will go back to New Mexico again and go all over that state. There are so many beautiful places there.
Thanks for the drive bud, have a safe ride and we all appreciate the amazing videos.
Good Morning Russ, Thanks for taking the time to stop at these historical sites. I agree, looking around and seeing the same views as the ancient civilizations saw. Too cool! Can't wait to see where you take us next. See You Soon!
thanks for the drone footage of the salt ponds
I live in Mountainair, too bad you were in such a hurry to get to somewhere else. You missed a lot of good stuff. You drove right by the Salinas Monument headquarters in the middle of town. It was on the left next to the grocery store. The biggest pueblo of the three is 25 miles south of town and well worth the drive. The people of the pueblos mined and refined the salt from those lakes and traded it all over the southwest. Come back sometime when you can stay longer. There is lots more to see here than just the ruins.
I think Russ is in a hurry to get home. Tired of driving I guess.
I've been to ABO- beautiful area
It's almost a little freaky to walk through some of these places with no crowds. I'm sure being from Arizona you're always on a heightened snake patrol! Have a good one Russ!
Very cool..throughly enjoy all the videos ,
This one truly sparks my interest.
Thank you so much.
Missing your live chats.
That sign said Built-in 1630. They're in great shape.
maybe mammoth used the salt pounds and buffalo or Bison
Very nice, thank you! Ron PTL USA
Excellent vid Russ.
That's the same feeling I had too when I was walking in the ruins. They were looking at the same views.
loved the abo ruins
Thanks Russ 😎 to see , rolling on to our next spot.😊
Got left behind at Billy’s place! Catching up now. This was a great video. I’ve only had glimpses of New Mexico. Glad It’s on my way! Ruins were spectacular considering how old they are.
Very cool ancient native city. Nice find.
That's a whole lot of flag stones used in those Abo Ruins. All had to be carted there from all around the surrounding region. By physical labor and mule I guess.
Safe & Happy Trails to you!
ABO ruins....built 1629 ....wow, well built
Nice job, good looking place
National Park Service has visitor center in Mountainair - well worth stopping there.
LOVE THE RUINS. WOULD LIKE TO READ THE STORYBOARDS THOUGH.
Please scan over the story boards, face on, so we can screen shot them and read the story. Love the videos!
Back then the General Store must have been little more than three sisters ..corn squash & beans . Complete meal!
That was really neat to see.
What a shame that you drove right past two of the three steps of the Salinas Pueblo ruins. Both Gran Quivira and Quarai are beautiful.
Cool place.
good morning
1630 ! Long time ago,for sure.
Thanks for the ride. We really enjoy your videos. One thing though, would it be possible to focus in on the historic markers so we could read them for a few seconds. Thanks again Russ.
If I could give it more than 1 like I would.
You are in my neck of the woods now. When you realize what the spanish missionaries did to the native populations it is truly horrifying.
We have went through Socorro several times to see the wildlife refugee.
I like the way you laugh.
Looks like the mountain in the distance is on fire at the 3:35 mark. Thanks for the great video Russ!
Most of those salt lakes have gypsum on the bottom. There is only one lake that has table salt. I was taken there by the Chief Ranger of the Salinas National Monument..
thanks russ
Hi Russ, Enjoyed watching this video. The Abo Ruins were amazing to see ...but no drone footage? Had to replay the segment when you passed through downtown Willard (had accidentally blinked the first time). Looking forward to viewing the rest of your trip. Best Regards
That's an interesting area. I have a conference in Albuquerque next summer, if I drive, I have some areas to explore.
The only place I've been to down there is Very Large Array Radio Telescope, which is on US 60 on the other side of I25. I hope you stopped there. That was interesting.
Hi Russ ! .. You really need to get a closer shot of the story boards and pause for about 5 seconds.. That way we can pause the video to read it. Thanks..
THUMBS UP!! RUSS..THE BEAST..AND THE DRONE!!
there are 3 Salinas Pueblos 1 south of Mountainair 1 north and 1 west
abo means before Ice age or during
There is the van...yha...
Hey russ not far from where I homebase but you missed the nicer one outside mountaineer. Acordinding to the ranger when it was open they were built in the 1600s and the men brought supplies up and women built the structures and yes it is well worth coming to see great video
The ruins was a great place to fly your drone with the golden hours and no people. I would buzz that ruin with my drone until I run out of batteries.
❤❤
Can you go from Las Vegas NM to Tucumcari NM please
NM vast improvement on Texas
Thanks Russ, another great video! A request; is it possible to include a Google Map / Earth summary for each of your videos? Not sure if that's difficult to do but it would be great to see the route you travel for that video.
