"ofc the code works, I wrote it" is so relatable :D
Respect to William and his self-documenting code, you will be grateful when you come back to the code some weeks or months after!
I feel like you couldv'e made an hour long video for this and we'd have eaten it up. I laughed very hard at several of these. We relate to these, we relate to pain. Game development is pain.
second this
adding a fishing minigame / hunger mechanics / any other survival mechanic should be on the indie mistakes because it's so exact but you know people will do it.
The meme about depression is actually about how so many indie games tackle the topic of "depression", as opposed to any other emotion. It's making fun of the stereotype "A 2d sidescroller platform collectathon that has a deep and meaningful story about depression"
So close to that train-game and yet so far away.... one day, I guess, one fine choo-choo day!
What?) The whole time I was sure you guys were "Chief executive clown distracting some poor dev from the actual coding, while roasting all their games that failed")
Love the videos, you're a great duo :)
That was really amusing until the Bingo card cut a bit too deep 😵
I always liked Dani's meme review, was a fun time when he still did this. Nice format!
The meme review's rating is missing. So do a part 2 with the meme rating.
Good memes, my stomach still hurts from the (1) task one :D
That was a fun distraction; now back to the code mines. 🤓 Thanks for the grins & giggles!
Well, I definitely fill that "solo dev" bingo slot, probably why I can't get things done.
That and the whole coding skill thing...
Also, I think the optimization meme is a joke on endlessly "putting your ducks in a row".
Omg.. Guild Architect's UI looks soo cool 😮😮.. damn.. I understimated u guys 🎉🎉 good job
Missing meme haha:
- CZcams content creation.
- "Is this game dev?"
Not understanding why there's fire underwater in the Spongebob meme is extra funny because that _is_ the joke in the original
Loved the one about Game Devs Then & Now, particularly as I was around for the Then Era. Game devs nowadays can't even comprehend the notion of writing games for fifty different platforms with kilobytes of RAM and single-MHz single-core CPUs (and no GPUs at all). Add in the fact that even 160KB floppy drives were 'bleeding-edge' back in the day and online connectivity peaked at 9600 baud (few could afford anything over 2400 baud, and 9600 was closer to 4800 during the day) and you can see that even distribution was a major issue. Hardly surprising that all the AAA examples (except the breast milk incident) involves EA - AAA titles in general, Dragon Age: Origins, and Simcity 2013.
The optimization meme seems to play on the old phrase about "getting all your ducks in a row". The problem you run across in game dev is that optimization takes so many forms and many of those can run at cross-purposes; like organizing customer records alphabetically vs by date of transaction. All the internal/bookkeeping stuff works better when organized chronologically, but anything involving specific customers works better when alphabetized.
That QA meme seems to be another nod to EA. I was part of the alpha and beta testing for Simcity 2013 and was among those adamantly cautioning EA that a few hundred people playing starting cities for fifteen minutes wasn't a tithe on a few hundred thousand people spending hours at a time playing huge cities they'd been developing for months (or years). We even explicitly pointed out the infamous D3 rollout disaster, but our pleas fell on deaf ears. (Even more infuriating when it came out that 99.44% of Simcity 2013's lauded 'justifications' for always-online were proven to have been lies from the outset.)
going to go overtime polishing my agdg demo day submission now
9:43 you should have tried with Construct 😂
You guys better finish the cultivation game.
26:55 IMO it should have been "Developer" and "Testers"
I dont want to make game engines, but making games from game frameworks like raylib really teach a lot, "simple" things like a grid system has to be built from the ground up, pretty good xp
I made a game "Karina Katana", its on steam, and the first thing i did was the main menu hahahahah
🔥🔥
Your side project looks similar to Railbound!
Yeah, railbound was one of the inspirations, but there were still some mechanical differences we were planning. I don't know if those will ever see the light of day though, as I've pretty much abandoned that side project (for now?) -M
i have so many ideas but im a game designer with no skills in coding or art

Day 3 of asking for Melon-Pan tier list.
