  • Zondervan just released the updated KJV Thompson Chain Reference Bible. This edition is typeset with the KJV Comfort Print typeface designed by 2K/Denmark. It's available in several sizes and cover options. In this review, I'll look at the new Zondervan KJV Thompson Chain Reference Bible in all three sizes and look at imitation leather, bonded leather, calfskin, and cowhide. I'll also compare it to the original KJV TCR and the new Premier Collection TCR.

    At 10:02 I actually prefer the old ones where it actually shows the map than just a table. This new look of the TCR is indeed an improvement but the old look will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing.

      I am glad I am not the only one who liked the old material even the footprint maps. the one thing I did not like the the old was the self-pronouncing text. I get that it probably helped a lot of people, especially back when literacy levels were down. I also liked the archeological section, but I am not mad it is gone. I have several old TCRs and a few of the new.

    It is ironic that my Bible buying excursion the last year was due to looking to update my Kirkbride. After buying about 15 different Bibles some which I have kept and many I have given away, I still keep coming back to the TCR. I love the handy size NIV I have but in my fantasy world I long for a leather handy size NASB. Until then all the TCR’s I have both old and new will remain with me. I love the TCR because a reader can do serious study without having a study Bible that is skewed toward any particular theology.

      Awesome! That's similar to how I started Bible Buying Guide in 2011. My TCR font was too light and small. Plus, I wanted better paper. Now, we have the exact TCR I wanted in 2011.

    Just got my large print in bonded leather which having both premiere collection and leathersoft editions of many bibles, are very well put together! I'll take the European bonded with the synthetic liner over a leathersoft with paper paste down any day although I do understand the TCR leathersoft editions have synthetic liners too. The bold large print is stunning and very readable. The chain references are that much easier to glean as well. The four column layout is balanced so we'll, I'll be enjoying and learning from this for years. May retire the KJV giant print thinline premiere I have!

    Thank you I too think the glossary should not have been removed I too hope they add it back in. There is a font difference between the Cowhide and the Goatskin Cow Hide used 10.5 if you go with the Large-print comfort print where as the Goatskin is only 9.5 I was a bit disappointed in that I would have went with the Goatskin if it was not for that.

    I like the revised KJV calfskin Thompson Chain, but I'm glad I also have the older version, bonded leather in the NASB 77, since although beautiful, I miss some of things in the back of the Bibles that have changed.

    I just bought this in the thumb index version, in the calfskin cover. I've always wanted a nice Bible. I own the Kirkbride Bible from 1986 or 87, in red and black. I need the covers repaired, or replaced, and the binding fixed.

  • @Normal1855

    I also own the regular, and large print kjv, and the nkjv regular size, in bonded leather and brown leather look. I also own a small kjv, and nkjv, that I keep in my truck, for when I travel, or go to appointments. That's so, I can read basically anywhere. I only take notes in one Bible. I read a few chapters in the kjv in the morning, and the same chapters in the nkjv in the evening, before I go to bed.

    I like the newer Thompsons, I have the NKJV but haven't used it much because it is red letter and the red letter was terrible. I've sort moved away from study and reference Bibles and have only been using text only Bibles so that I can focus on the text of scripture. I may try to get the ESV edition when it comes out, but then again I might not because only the premier collection will be all black letter text. It really does look good though and you have done an excellent job at showing these Bibles.

    I just discovered something tonight in this New Revised Version. Turn to the back to the "Alphabetical Index" . Look up (DAVID), follow the Character Study of 4296. And try to follow Journey's and Events in Life of 4307f... Makes wonder how many more mistakes there are ? Those chains work in the Kirkbride version but not the NEW Revised Version. They took material out of the Concordance also. It's smaller. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @BiblebelievingChristian1270
      @BiblebelievingChristian1270 Před měsícem

      "The Character study of David"...It is there but it should read 4293 not 96. And the "Journeys and events in the life of David"...it is there also just just not in 4307-f, it is in 4302-e. So it's probably a misprint they didn't catch. Hopefully they will catch it and fix it. All in all though. I like this one more. It's more organized and clean. God bless 🙏🙏

    I love the TCR with the exception of the heft. I have small hands so my leather NASB is so wide that it is not portable. Ironically I fell in love with it because I picked up an old hardcover NIV and was amazed by the study aids. I loved it because it WAS smaller. I just don’t like NIV and I wanted a NASB. I hate the large type in my current TCR.

      I have both as I don’t like bonded leather but got one as I found it for a price that made it something I couldn’t pass up. It is black bonded with silver gilding and is beautiful. I will gift it to someone at some point. I bought leather soft for me which is nice also and oddly cost me more but since it was not leather , I felt more comfortable marking in it. After zondervan bought Thompson chain-reference they gutted the Thompson chain-reference and they took things away out that are not even there and the things they took away that's the things that they like in the Bible the Thompsons chain it had archaeology and maps, in all the original Thompson's chain I wouldn't buy a zondervan, if you're going to buy a Thompson chain-reference at least buy a 4th or 5th edition if not one of the original Thompson chain, if you really look at the zondervan you do know they took things out and change things in that nice Bible but I wouldn't buy a zondervan by the original Thompson's chain.
