My grandpa and dad were Shriners, so I grew up around all those fine gents, and they really were a bunch of great guys. I nearly died laughing the first time I heard Ray's Shriner's Convention. Maybe it's cause of how I grew up by my lord that was a side-splitter for me. Anyway, because of that song I bought his record album, still have it, and it led me to the wonderful world of Ray Stevens.
This is a great gospel song ... sending a lesson, how many people go to "the first self-righteous church", but on this day, God sent a squirrel to teach them a lesson.
He's been doing since the 60's we had the streak on 8 track the tape was called Looney Tunes it had a bunch of whacky songs like transfusion , purple people eater , funny farm and too many to list
I remember as a child attending some revivals with my grandparents and parents and all that. And this song STILL leaves me rolling on the floor at 68! Good chuckling with you, man!
When I was 10yrs old my family took me to a holiness revival. I had to go to the bathroom, and when I was leaving the pew I fell down in the isle. Everyone thought I was "slain" in the spirit and started praising God...I just laid there for a minute or two then got up and went to the bathroom.
My mother loves that song, and I grew up in the AG in the 1980s and 1990s, where stuff went down. Ray Stevens is a crazy man, and when I was 9, I could not get enough of his music.
I belong to one of those spiritual churches. Many times I have witnessed people getting happy in the Lord and shoutin, lovin on everyone and siging praises. Nothing like it. I have always loved this song.
I love seeing ppl getting filled with spirit anyone who say it ain't real has never felt it. Once you feel that, you couldn't describe it but it's the most amazing feeling , I love the Lord and I couldn't make it through a single day without him. God bless you sis
I loved your squirrel talk following the song as much as the song itself. LOL Ray Stevens has all kinds of fun songs like this. Ahab the Arab...The Streak...It's Me Again Margaret...Shriner's Convention....Along Came Jones.... Santa Clause is Watchin' You (He's everywhere! He's everywhere!)
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Love this Mississippi Squirrel....We Pentecostal people just gets our praise on......I grewup in Mississippi & loves to go back and visit.....Ray Stevens is Outstanding....👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽👐🏿👐🏿👐🏿👐🏿👐🏿👐🏿🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
He also did "Misty" (another serious song). Most of the stuff he recorded was original, but one song mentioned above "Along came Jones" was originally recorded by The Chords in the mid 50s. Stevens had a summer replacement TV show in the late 60's or early 70's about the time "Gitarzan" was on the charts.
WOW...Ray Stevens....LMFAO....I LOVE RAY STEVENS!!!!I am 37...and I grew up listening to him...CLASSIC AND FUNNY!!Thx for reacting!!Plz do more Ray Stevens :)
*snickers* This made my night! I can't remember if I requested this one or was planning to! I wanted this one in loving memory of my dad! This takes me way back in time....Dad and I both loved this....it's perfect for the sense of humor we shared. Thank you Ty for doing this one...I know my dear dad is laughing with no noise coming out of his mouth but his belly is shaking!
I met RayStevens when he did a show at the NC state fair one year, he is a very kindhearted, gentle man. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to him at that little diner.
God Bless you too! I absolutely love watching your channel and love that i can share it with my children without the fwar of some of the less savory things found in youtube these days. It gives me the boost of joy i need to help me through tough days like today. Please keep up the great work!
Back when The Streak came out we saw a man streaking while we was going to church. I was about 6 and my mom said Dont Look. It was too late some things you cant unsee.
One of my all time favorites! Being raised in the church, I could only imagine what this would have been like. And I love Ray Stevens. That man is (possibly was now) a great talent.
IS is still appropriate. Ray is still very much alive. He's constantly doing new things, and has built a beautiful showroom in Nashville called CabaRay. Another vote here for Shriner's Convention.
I can't stop laughing! First of all, Ray Stevens' video of the "Mississippi Squirrel Revival" _always_ makes me laugh. And then your little comedy skit at the end! Wow! That was hilarious! I had tears rolling down my cheeks. "You shouldn't have been in the way!" "I almost killed my grandmother!" I'm still laughing as I type this. This fight or flight thing isn't confined to one ethnic group. My white mother -- who absolutely adored me -- would have left me to fend for myself if a squirrel, spider, wasp or whatever got in the room. In the 50s, Mother and her BFF were sitting at the kitchen table having coffee and yakking. Her BFF noticed a spider on Mother's shoulder, pointed to her shoulder and said, "Hon, you have a spider on your shoulder." That's all Mother needed to hear! With both hands, she grabbed BFF's wrist and used her hand to get that spider off of her, screaming bloody murder the entire time! This is still a family story that still elicits guffaws after all these decades. :D
True story, In 1985, When I just arrived at basic training at Ft. Jackson S.C., my drill Sgt. Asked me where I'm from. I told him "PASCAGOULA MISSISSIPPI." He looked at me funny like and said, "Ain't that where that squirrel went crazy in a church?" I told him yes, "I guess so." He said he didn't think that was a real place and that I was "messing with him". He actually went and got a map and made me show him where it was.
Love Ray Stevens. Sittin' Up With The Dead, The Streak and others that other people have mentioned here are favorite old songs he sang when I was young and still love to listen to. Prayers for the lady! Thank you, this was fun. ^_^
Oh my goodness! How I enjoy watching YOU enjoy the music!! Your face is an open book, with pictures, I can clearly see your happiness in discovering a brand new song/singer/group! Now that you’ve listened to the Squirrel, try “It’s Me Margret,” “Ahab the Arab,” “Along Came Jones,” and many others! Ray Steven is a national treasure!
Sir - you are a joy and a pleasure to watch. I love your clean, quirky honesty, your reactions are precious and your taste is right up my alley. God bless you!
I loooove this song! I had forgotten all about it. It was popular in the 1970s. Love Ray Stevens. He sang a lot of funny songs, as well as a couple of "straight" (not humorous) hits. He had other humorous hits like "Guitarzan" (he even voices Jane & the "chimp" as well) and "The Streak." (Streaking was a fad in the 70s. People, usually guys, running through a public event NAKED, often getting away before anyone knew what had happened. Across football fields, and in the gymnasium during the senior play in my high school! Love your videos, brother!
Ray Stevens -The Haircut Song. First song I ever heard from Ray Stevens. A teacher from middle school played it for us in class. Laughed our rumps off. Have loved him ever since. "I run this church...for loggers." Lol. Might be a good one for a reaction video.
Oh my goodness! I'm losing it. Just received horrible news, and while it doesn't make it better, it certainly served as a distraction. Much love and many prayers for your friend. Excellent video! Loved it!
You're awesome, for one because, you ask people to simply not subscribe until they see your videos and like them. You are a rarity Sir! I for one appreciate it!
Thank you for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it!
