    a tip from another newbie gardener: i've been told to squish and "decompress" the roots of plants before repotting them to change the shape and give them more air and the ability to grow better or something.

      Great tip! Thanks for this 😄

      @@GraceWillow by loosening the roots, they grow out into the soil instead of continuing in the root bound pot shape.

    I'm really enjoying all of the home content lately! With the pandemic and everything I haven't had any motivation or really want to cosplay, but I am in the process of moving and planning out my next place so this stuff has been especially wonderful haha

    Hope things are getting better at work!
    Love the garden. Mine has been such a place of peace for me and I hope it will be for you as well. Next time be sure to make a hole deeper than the pot you are taking the plat out of. That way you can protect the roots better. Bees love basil blooms but when they bloom too much they can get bitter. Make sure the lavender doesn’t over shadow your camomile as it gets tall.

    This is a lovely video and your vocal narration is truly beautiful and calming. About the only thing that I will suggest is maybe putting small blocks between the planter and your deck. Since the planter is not sealed water will leak through onto your deck. without a small amount of air flow between the planter and the deck, you might experience some water damage or rot on the deck longterm.

    • @GraceWillow
      @GraceWillow  Před 4 lety

      Thank you for the great tip!! The deck is treated/ waterproof but I’d rather be safe than sorry!

    Gardening has been an absolute life saver during lockdown. My partner and I have grown so many veggies and herbs in the past four months, and it's become one of my absolute favourite things to do! I can just spend hours outside looking at all our adorable plants :)

  • @PinkPortraitDesu
    @PinkPortraitDesu Před 4 lety +1

    I've never thought of painting a regular wood planter. Idk why that's never occurred to me. 👍🏻
    The soil can be a little fluffier so the roots have an easier to spreading out. The bigger top heavy plants are ones that I more firm up on top towards the center so they don't fall over if there's heavy wind.🌱🌪️

      Also, in Fort Worth, I’ve found that digging the hole, filling it with water, then putting the plant in, then watering again. Helps keep the plants from getting too shocked in transplant process in this heat. Also watering in the morning before it gets too hot helps it from evaporating :) Good luck!!

    I am catching this 2 years later and wonder how they are? What I've read about Chammomile, it can really spread. When I had a little condo it was happy in my 2X4 garden and filled it all up. My bunny always went to it and stayed by it! LOL. Good luck and thanks.

    Cute vid!
    Make sure to break up the root balls before planting. Also Lavendwr like dry, well drained soil. It will have some issues growing next to the basil since basil like moisture and is expanding but Lavender doesn't. They'll compete with each other in the box

    • @GraceWillow
      @GraceWillow  Před 4 lety

      Thank you for the tip!! I'll move the lavender to another pot this weekend!

    • @anthonyrich1592
      @anthonyrich1592 Před 4 lety

      @@GraceWillow Sounds like a good plan. Compared with your other herbs Lavender likes well-draining sandy/gravelly soils and can grow quite large (2-3ft high).

    when you take the plant out of the nursery pot, gently break up the roots a little bit and don’t pack down the soil so much to encourage them to branch out :)

    Gardening tips: 1. Don't compact the soil, it gets rid of air. 2. Massage the roots to free them up and encourage outward growth.
