{63} Tips on Picking the Masterlock #3

- I've made several videos, but none of the Masterlock. And this lock got me started in locksport and got me addicted to picking. Plus I've been giving so many away, I thought I should make a video with some tips for picking them. It may help someone get theirs picked and it would be well worth it.

Bravo for pointing out to people (what many of us had to work out ourselves after being confused for a looong time) that some pins you can't feel the jiggle ... also on determining what an overset pin feels like and how you might tell. Well done! 😜😜
Aww thanks. Man that confused me for so long. I went crazy picking the 1100. I was on discord asking about the jiggle! I just eventually accepted that sometimes I can't feel a thing. 😆 But it took me a good while to get there. I'm glad to share that tidbit if it helps someone out ya know!

We always need videos like these for new pickers, they never get old and you learn what you need to progress. I also couldn't agree more about buying individual (or 2-3) of your favorite picks, the sets become what you know you need VS what a company assumes you need. Thank you for saying that. I've kind of been on the fence about making one bc there are already so many out there. But I did want to talk about not feeling the jiggle and I wanted to add in a couple tips about the picks and have people take a look at Trucking's video about tensioning. I've been picking a Master Lock 6835 for weeks just to practice security pins. Today I decided to pick up my old, junky #3 and it reminded me why I hate it so much.
Lolol yea I was doing well picking security pins for a while and one day grabbed my #3 and I could not open it. Couldn't open any standard pins. I had to go back and relearn them. I had got spoiled from the feedback from security pins and couldn't remember how to even pick a standard! 🤣🤣🤣
As I said to Chris C. Some people drag down Master lock but I think they're fun

Awesome video! I have a hard time feeling the pins. My strokeside was my left but carpal tunnel in both wrists. Best advice I ever got was practice, practice, practice
Thank you!! Yea I have a rough time feeling some of them. I thought everyone was crazy telling me they jiggle. But then once I got into some other locks I could feel them. I just figured hey some I can feel and some I can't. Sucks when you can't makes for harder time picking! But yep, practice is the only way I got through it. Great advice LPG!!! 😊 🥰
Great video. Most of my opens have been BOK, but some really PIA locks needed a TOK. To get them open. A few of those pin states. My state, your state and California, where it will get you cancer..... ;)

Thanks!! I like them for tok on paracentric keyways! They fit perfectly on those! They are from southern specialties .. the longhorn tensioner set. About 10 bucks for the set of 3.
@@LadyLocks the longhorns aren't the ones I was talking about but they do have the z bars at a pretty decent price. I'll be darned if I didn't order a Peterson pry bar right before you commented, I would've spent less with your recommendation and got more.

Wish I saw it a couple of weeks ago when I kept struggling with some annoying half eurocilinder locks with their 🤬🤬 narrow keyway and my apparently to big lockpicks😂
Hopefully I will get the job done with the new Peterson set that I've just ordered

I may go back and link the Longhorn tensioner set from southern specialties in my description bc it's a perfect set for those euro cylinders with crazy paracentric keyways. Oh and yes Peterson's will get you into those very slender keyways! I don't use Peterson's too often but there are a couple locks that won't open for me without a Peterson pick 🤣
@@LadyLocks I have a feeling I'm gonna use the Peterson picks a lot, because as a Dutchman a often can get some good deals on those used euro cylinders.

Ya know what’s funny I was just gonna go get a basic new one. But since I have a bunch of old keys I was gonna get the ones ya can key to ur old key! And make a video on that! This was great video. Man masterlock give me crazy wierd feedback. I have the Peterson monkey and it’s in .15 . I want one that’s thicker. What’s the sparrows? Ok anyways great video. Lots to take in for peeps!very informative👏👏😎!
Thank you! The monkey paw I have is from Sparrows and you can find it in the single picks section. But you definitely need to make sure to click to get one with a handle. That one comes in .25 and it works great for so so many locks! If you get their fancy etched one its a metal handle and its in .20.
@@LadyLocks awe thanks for that. I will have a look. I need a new case to hold some more picks. I figure Jimmy longs gonna be coming out with some soon, and I really want to try a few other profiles and we’ll maybe get a few extra picks. I’m hard on picks. Because I’m so heavy handed. But to be fair I pick for hours a day to. But yeah thanks cause when I ordered from Peterson I could only find it in 15. And boy are them dangerous for me to use.
