    I learned to ride off road when I was 8 years old, and I'm SO glad I did. It teaches you proper bike control, how to maximise your grip and it forces you to stay loose. If you tighten yourself up, you'll only fall off. I have no doubt that if everyone learned to ride or drive off road and at a younger age there would be far, far fewer accidents on the road. I need to go and do one of these off road days!

    Best off road training you can get! Beautiful trail, top of notch instructors, and with one of those best bikes in the world, you can't find anything better than this

    I love seeing women get involved in this sport. I am 6'6 & 235 lbs. and can attest to just how hard it can be to handle a big bike (KTM 1290 Super Adventure R)... you did great! Select a bike that you can handle when things go sideways (and they will) and requires you to muscle the bike through a situation. Then, ride within comfort zone and practice a lot at going slow (3-5 MPH) w/ clutch modulating your speed and do so on progressively tougher terrain. You'll learn how to balance the bike and it'll improve your ability at higher speeds. Off roading gets in your blood and street riding becomes somewhat mundane. :-) Enjoy!!

    As a rider who has never gone off road, that course looks great, and I would like to attend something like that. I think you did a superb job completing all of the tasks - good job!

  • @horatio71
    @horatio71 Před 3 lety

    Completely agree, this course should be mandatory for every road rider. I've done level 1 and 2 and will certainly do level 3. The skills are really transferrable and makes every rider better. This course should be done by any new rider.

    Assuming the presenter was the "MCN Online Editor" I think she did a fantastic job at presenting in both parts. This was a great video and I hope MCN has more video content with her in the future. The videographer also did a great job in both parts (if it was the same person). People curious about any off road course got a great example of what it may be like. Simon has been in the game for a long time so I'm sure this course is top notch.

    Great video! And Maria was absolutely brilliant👌. I’m also a newbie and a short guy. And I ride a 700 GS so I could feel and understand her. Great piece of online video and content. Thank you so much.

    Great review from a newbie point of view, and small framed person. Testament to the BMW school and the determination of the reporter that day 1 ended with a ‘I want more’ attitude.

    Well presented, and I am glad to have reviewed. I have not been on a bike forever, and the mrs got me this course as a gift. I dont have muchh riding experience, so this was a great video - looks like a good enviroment to be in... thanks for the video, has got me even more excited..

    I did a riding course with Simon as head instructor in Australia many years ago, not long after he did the Race To Dakar video. It made me sick the way he was able to romp up a steep hill on an R1200GS while most of us on 650 Dakar's had no end of trouble.

    Very good video, I am planning on buying a GS in 2019 and wanted to try the driving school to learn more about handling it. I do think that it will be a good experience. The one doing the story was really nice to watch as well. Might just watch it again

    Kudos to you for being able to complete that. It's good to see your confidence go up. I too hope to do this someday. Although I have been riding street bikes for a while, I have no experience riding such tall and heavy bikes. Specially off-road.

    • @cire9984
      @cire9984 Před 3 lety +2

      You believe this is a compliment, but it's not. What you're suggesting is that she's there for "cuteness", which is not only patronizing but creepy as well.
      Her perspective here is as someone who didn't start riding dirt bikes at 2 years old or bought a midlife crisis Harley at 55. To show that this sport is for everyone. Calling her "cute" as the first thing on your mind accomplishes the exact opposite. It shows that she doesn't belong here unless she takes on the role as some form of eye candy.
      It's completely fine to find her attractive. Just keep it to yourself.

    I don't get why the women had to be segregated......there are small short guys too so what the hell is the problem with putting like sized people together. Oh and MCN there are more bike off road centers than always BMW, please a little more variety.

    • @roberthicks686
      @roberthicks686 Před 6 lety +6

      Face it, regardless of size, there is always a douche in the group when you get a bunch of guys together. Maybe women groups are the same way, I don't know. Having all women in the group, I imagine, gives less distractions and more concentration on the training and learning experience.

      Hi there, agreed. In this instance Level 1 Targeted for Women can only be taken once by any lady, after that they are in mixed groups. The course is simply a step in. In terms of small/short people, there are several low-seat bikes which can be used on the course to gain experience. Thanks for commenting and if you have any further questions or queries please email Maria.Vallahis@Motorcyclenews.com - Cheers, MCN :)
