AVROTROS is a Dutch radio and television broadcaster, founded in 2014 from a merger of AVRO and TROS. From January 1st, 2014 the name of the merged broadcaster was used in joint programmes. AVRO was founded in 1923 as the Netherlands first public broadcaster. TROS started broadcasting in 1964. Toppop was a weekly AVRO pop program that was aired between 1970 and 1988.

TopPop was the first regular dedicated pop music TV show in the Dutch language area. Dutch broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 1970 to 1988. Presenter Ad Visser hosted the show for its first fifteen years.
World famous music artists performed on TopPop: ABBA, 10CC, Bee Gees, The Jacksons with Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Earth & Fire, Queen, Golden Earring, Boney M, KC & The Sunshine Band, Chic, Donna Summer and many many more.
This is, quite frankly, one of the greatest songs of all time. I could never ever get tired of this.

A Detroit legend. His Father was my English teacher in High School. What an unbelievable diversity of music that emanated from Detroit back then.
Oh, I didn't know he's father was an English teacher. That explains Iggy being well spoken in interviews
Before recording this, Iggy stated to the floormanager: "I'm going to be your animal for ten minutes."
After he said: "Thank you very much, sir."
Iggy's record company received the bill the next day: 2000 guilders for damages.

Notable performances include one in 1977, by Iggy Pop, who refused to leave his dressing room and then, during a rehearsal, stormed dramatically and unexpectedly onto the studio floor. He spent most of the song writhing on the floor without a shirt on, miming his hit single and destroying some plants that had been put on the floor as decoration. For many young viewers in the Netherlands, this was their first encounter with punk rock.
Saw it, back then, will never forget this. Iggy with the plants.

Both Bowie n and Pop have said the beat was derived from the Berlin America Forces radio call signal.
Legendary performance . Iggy, stoned out of his mind refused to perform and didn't want to leave his dressing room .
The frustrated Toppop technicians decided to do another tryout to test the setup without Iggy and started the music when he suddenly stormed on stage .

Iggy Lust For Live. It was one of the first “punk” performances at Toppop. It was a new wave of music. I think the Stranglers with Something Better Change was the first audience of punk at Toppop.

I remember back
In the seventies watching this on Top Pop Dutch tv and being shocked at this seemingly deranged half naked junkie totally destroying the studio assaulting the camera man and messing around with him. There was no way of censoring his demented drugs fueled insanity because it was a live program. You see blood on his chest he actually injured himself as he demolished the studio decorations it was just crazy.
I was 14 and it made a big impression, still do things my own way

In Dutch some context for ya: "In 1977 weigerde de grillige zanger Iggy Pop lange tijd zijn kleedkamer uit te komen om zijn hit Lust for Life te playbacken. Toen technici, om wat voor reden dan ook, de muziekband toch maar lieten lopen, stormde Iggy, dramatisch opgemaakt en met slechts een spijkerbroek aan het door drugsgebruik uitgemergelde lijf, onverwachts de studiovloer op. Het Toppop-filmpje van Lust for Life begint daarom met zich haastig van de studiovloer verwijderende crew. De rest van de tijd besteedt Iggy aan het kronkelend over de vloer playbacken van zijn hit en het slopen van een aantal ter decoratie neergezette kamerplanten. Iggy's optreden in Toppop wordt wel beschouwd als de doorbraak van de punk in Nederland."
