The plays are awesome. I'm a reds fan.
But the biggest thing in hyped for is elly learning and showing his progression in the course of weeks.

Definitely not overrated. He's consistently spectacular. It's unreal.
This video didn't even touch on his defense. He's got plays that look like Brooks Robinson out there.

100%! It's fun to bash a one hit wonder and the league has had plenty of them, but this dude is completely different imo. He has a top arm, elite power, elite speed, and the fun boyish personality to make him a potential face of the league.

You can, in fact, steal first. If the batter swings and misses for the third strike and the catcher doesn't catch the ball, you can take first.i imagine a future where he steals all 4 bases.

No doubt the Dominicans love baseball and are well represented, but Elly does things on the diamond I've never seen but only read about it.
And you'd have to go all the way back to ty Cobb to have a comparison.
I mean he stole home again a few days ago.
He's electric because every night he does something phenomenal.

Nah bro there won’t. I know he hasn’t done it in game this year but he’s got a bat that can produce one of the highest exit velos in baseball. Up there with the Ohtanis and acunas . He also has the fastest sprint speed in baseball. You will never find another player with his pop and speed . Yeah there will be plenty more great baseball players from the DR that can hit and run . But none with league leading power and speed the way elly is.

the DR mass manufactures these dudes, and they all have the same achilles heel, watch Oniel or Elly bat, they strike out a ton so far this season in 100 PA, they have a 30% strikeout rate, comparing it to some of the recent MVPs, acuna 2023 11% K rate, ohtani 2023 22% K rate. Are these guys good yes, but when Oniel came in the league everybody said the same thing "great speed, great fielding, great hitting, will be a long time till we see another one of these guys" and Elly arrived shortly after. Every few years the DR will produce another one of these guys and the media will say the same thing.

I dont know man , he's playing pretty well so far this season. Will it continue its hard to guess by right now he's a top 5 hitter in the mlb at shortstop. And he's still very young and seems to be improving from league to league. I don't think it's out of bounds to say that EDLC could be one of the best players in baseball in the next few years.

@@joshuamsweeneyify I mean he had this same kind of electric start last season too though, then he ended with like a .235 BA, .300 OBP, 89 OPS+, and 33.7 SO% (which is very similar to his SO% so far)

Perhaps not as a player but his skill set speaks for itself. This isn't the case of a player getting a hot bat when he gets called up and has some other above average skills to boot. He is legitimately elite across the 5 tool spectrum. This isn't Puig, Luis Robert, or even Oneil Cruz. Dude is special.

@@danielsmith608 elite is a stretch. The only categories he’s truly “elite” in are his base running and arm.
