  • In this video I'm answering some questions you had for me. At the moment I own 7 dogs in total, 6 Staffordshire Bull Terriërs and 1 Leonberger. In total we have 8 dogs at home. That means my life is very structured so all the dogs will get their attention.

Sooo happy finding you and being such a good person. Dogs have got they needs, long walks, stimulations, good nutrition and if that is not fulfilled, I just call abuse bad treatment! What for want people a dog if they hate to move, walk in nature?? Never will understand. Thank you for being so responsible person❤

Me encantan tus vídeos y el entrenamiento que das a tus perros. Adoro a los staffies aunque aún no tengo ninguno. Sigue publicando estos maravillosos videos. Un saludo desde Islas Canarias.

Beautiful Staffies. This is my first time stumbling across your channel. Excuse me if you explained this in a previous video, but I notice you wrap the wrist of the dogs while playing, is that common practice for this type of breed? Or do you only do it when playing with the flirt pole?

I’ll try to record a video about how I train my dogs with the muzzle as fast as possible. :)

Really great channel. Are there any resources you recommend to learn sports training a Staffie?

Everything I know I've learnt on the field spend with people who do this for a very very long time already. So my advice would be get in touch with people who do this and join their training. You already can start at home using a flirtpole. All you need is a whip that's used for lunging horses. Put a little bag on the end. This way you can start teaching your dog chasing plastic bags is fun. Chasing a plastic bag is something they need to do for sprinting or trachmill.

Thanks for the advice. Already considering a flirt pole. Is there an age you would recommend using a flirt pole? As some trainers suggest only using a flirt pole once the puppy has the basic commands down.
Also interested in your opinion on giving toys to your Staffies (especially when puppies) to occupy themselves. Some trainers recommend only giving dogs toys whilst they are training to ensure they remain engaged during the training (although appreciate one may provide toys where there are multiple dogs to play among themselves).

@@juliusdavison1229 My dogs don´t know a lot of commands because I´m not using the flirtpole to work on their impulse control. I use it to get them chase things and I don´t need them to listen to me while they´re doing that. If you want to use it for impulse controle then it´s better to wait untill the basic commands are known by your dog.
I don´t have toys in the house as it might cause fights between my dogs. When they were young they had toys but now they´ve reached an age where it´s nog longer safe to put toys out with more then one dog out of the kennel. The second reason why they don´t get toys anymore inside the house is that I want them to switch off inside the house. I use toys during training and sports a lot and they really love it. But I don´t use them around the house.
For challenging the dogs around the house I let them search their kibble. This way they still get to do something but it doesn´t make them as crazy as playing with a toy. They get a good chewing snack every now and then. They are in their kennels when getting their chewing snacks. But they chew for more then one hour and they are very satisfied after. I also use enrichment toys to feed them.
So at the moment my dogs only get toys offered while working and sporting. In the house I want them to relax and not search for something to play with constantly. Maybe if I only had one dog I would do that differently but with the amount of dogs I have playing in the house is just not possible. All the dogs will go crazy if one has a toy and runs around the house with it.

@@juliusdavison1229 So with my litter I really focussed on using their nose. Because my main goal was getting good mantrailingdogs. So I used a lot of food to get them use their nose from an early age. This way you can get them tired without putting to much presure on their bodies. I went to the forest take a puppy out and would go wandering in the forest. Let them search their kibble on trees that came down, between the leaves ect ect. This way they still get to use their body but it´s more easy going. They´re working really hard while sniffing and my pups were super satisfied afterwards.
I´ve let them chase a flirtpole on a young age twice I think. And I just recently introduced them to the dummy. They all loved it. Now we will slowly introduce them to the sports and they will start doing more from now on.

Really great points on both not having toys in the house as they get older, as well as using their nose to stimulate them without putting pressure on their bodies (especially whilst they are young).
Do you have an opinion about training a puppy to be on a lead (some say not to use a lead until a puppy is older as they don’t yet understand being on a lead and better to exercise them in an enclosed space). Once on a lead, would you recommend a long line or flexi lead if one wanted to similarly train a puppy’s nose?
Thanks for taking the time and share your knowledge.

You make people doubt about their ability to take care of the dogs. That's the problem, don't breed a litter if you have such high expectations of the future owners, they might not be like you but they can still be great dog owners and a loving home.

      @sporting-sbt  Před 2 měsíci +1

Yes, I do have high expectations that’s because this breed comes with a responsibility. I don’t expect people to be like me. But these dogs are not like the average showlines. Knowing that I can’t promise a new owner that they will be fine with only walking. Maybe they are but that’s something you will see when the dogs grow up. But if I tell people they’ll do fine and they don’t it’s my fault aswell. Still think the brindle boy would have been a very good match.
