  • Modded my SNES Classic Mini using Hakchi 2 and added more SNES games, NES, Genesis, Gameboy and GBA games.
    I couldn't add much GBA games because they eat storage for breakfast.
    And yes during recording I noticed that I made a mistake with one of the box arts.

    I find it hilarious that Sega games sound amazing on a Nintendo console 🤣

    • @My2Cents1
      @My2Cents1 Před 3 lety +7

      Does that surprise you? The SNES had a much more advanced sound chip than the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. Gen/MD had only one set of sounds and a few selected slots for samples. Those were most often used for sound effects and not as instrument channels. This is why sega games from that era all sounded the same, with very few exceptions. All games used that same waveform library the chip could generate. Crystal clear sound, but very raw and quite limited. Like trying to produce hundreds of albums with varied music using only one synthesizer.
      The SNES was all sampled based instruments, which also had its drawbacks especially if the game was big, and where they had to compress the instuments making the music sound muffled (most often in skimped, fast cashgrab multi platform ports). But if done right, the SNES had just as crystal clear sound as the Gen/MD, even in huge games like Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, and Donkey Kong Country.
      But to address you comment, the reality is, you could make a SNES sound like a Genesis via samples, but never make a Genesis sound like a SNES. It just wasn’t built for that.
      In this case however, it’s all kinda irrelevant because the Mini consoles aren’t actual consoles. They are glorified Raspberry Pi:s designed to run emulators. (Although amazing and adorable... yeah I got NES/SNES/Genesis/PS1... because I want them assembled on my game shelf 😊)
      The Genesis games run on what essentially is a software version of a Sega Genesis, not a SNES.
      You probably know all this, but wtf I just had to. ;))

      Well i want to say that if it has only gba games on it not snes and other systems games on it. The reason is simple titles. Gba has much better and variety of titles you can play from arcade graphics style street fighter 2 final fight to snes graphics style and nes style fds collection.

      @@My2Cents1 Sorry but you can't make a SNES sound like a Genesis and you can't make a Genesis sound like a SNES. The YM2612 sound the Genesis has if very specific soumd just like the SPC700 on the SNES is specific. Not all Sega games from that era sounded the same, their were differences I think you need to do more reading my friend because you clearly sound ignorant making such outlandish comments.

    • @My2Cents1

      @@VirajKathwadia
      I know and love both consoles very well. They both had their strengths, but for Genny, music versatility sure wasn't one of them.
      SNES music was sample based whereas the Genny worked off its own internal Yamaha2612 synthesizer chip which made up most of its sound resources. As such, in theory you could sample all the most signature sounds from the YM2612, them use SNES a game, effectively making it sound like the Genesis.
      You could never do that in reverse, because the Genesis have very limited sample capabilities, especially for use in music. That's why all the Genny games sounded the the same, which made their music feel a bit generic. The advantage of that was of course that the resources for music took up very little space, whereas on the SNES they took up a lot.

    • @VirajKathwadia
      @VirajKathwadia Před rokem +1

      @@My2Cents1 Sorry I wholeheartedly have to disagree with you when you talk about music versatility when it comes to the Mega Drive. The Sample based stuff on the SNES was great when listening to some of the lovely orchastra themes from ActRaiser, Terranigma and Chronotrigger, this is something the YM2612 could not do. You talk about sampling the signature sounds from the chip, but lets be blunt that hasn't happened and the clarity would not be crisp and if it could happen I'd like to think Tommy Tallerico would have given Earth Worm Jim (A Mega Drive Game) a proper sound unlike with the inferior sound the SNES gave out. Frequency Modulation was a skill to learn to make music for and it took some talented sound programmers to get it right such as Yuzo Koshiro with the streets of rage soundtrack and Revenge of Shinobi, you can't replicate that on SNES. I have no idea what you are talking about stating that all the sounds on Mega Drive sounded the same, the soundtrack and tones from Masato Nakamuras Sonic the Hedgehog to Rob Hubbard's theme to Desert Strike are on two different levels you must tone deaf if you think they are the same. Whether or not more or less was taken up was irrelevant, you clearly need to play more Sega Mega Drive games because it appears you are one of these Nintendrones that lack experience in hearing just how great and varied Mega Drive music is. Music is subjective and I get you have your preference but you're wrong in thinking that the SNES could replicate Mega Drive sound, it can't. Guitar and Bass sounds weak on SNES compared to Mega Drive.

It would take up more space but u can add a hsqs file to ur snes classic making it so u can launch the nes classic os/kernel from ur snes classic. Im not a expert at tech but its like a rom except instead of loading a game it reboots the system to the nes kernel/os making it a nes classic but in a snes classic. only a few less demanding games would run, snes mini CPU is not very powerful, you would be better off buying a used PSTV for around 100 bucks and hack it to play PSP using Adrenaline, it plays 100% of all PSP games.

      I don't think sonic mania would work cause its so new. Even though it has an old art style it's probably way more demanding than n64 or gamecube games and n64 games are already kinda iffy on the snes classic.
