I think pitchers need to crawl through the elastic jungle before each inning.
The Alicudi/Day and Night musical cue was just fucking brilliant. 👨🏻🍳💋
These edits are always amazing, but that that was the Michael Jordan of Weekly Dumb edits.
What if pitchers are going down ... beCAUSE goats are taking over Italy?
🤯
I think you’re onto something.
Zack was on fire this week. 🤣 The floodlights really got me good.
Zack's edits are always fire
Not mention the Kid cudi reference
I came to the comment section for this exact comment
Charlie Hough led the Marlins' rotation when he was 45 and he was a starter at age 46. Solution: reintroduce the knuckle ball.
make knuckle strikes worth 2
Or better, give em 5 balls before a walk lol
How is the editing on this goofy little show still the absolute best editing on CZcams? Zach continues to kill it.
Trying to reach 100 plus mph pitches can’t be good for you
Like most things repetitive strain is not good. Not to mention you're quite literally throwing your shoulder out because where else is that force going to go? Most people tunnel into "unga bunga fast good" when really if you can make a 85 and 95 look the same on top of having say a fastball and curve that look similar enough then you've got a 4-way mixup which is more than enough. Honestly it's a major negative with stats, pitch speed is a number therefore better number equal better pitch but it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture
Yeah. Watch a pitcher in ultra slow motion and see all the joints bending in wild, weird ways. Then ask them to do that as hard as they can a bunch of times in a row. They are taking a violent motion and incentivizing ultra violence and, worst of all, putting responsibility for the consequences on something else.
If you can’t make throwing that hard effortless like Nolan Ryan or Randy Johnson, then you were never meant to throw that hard. Period. End of story.
@@TheIcecreamtacoI agree, very few, and I mean very few pitchers have the ability to throw 98+ naturally. Honestly believe in part is due to genetics, some people are just able to do it naturally and others force their body to do it
"We loved a good dump run" XD
The frog in the head on the unicycle had me dying!
OHHHM MAH GAAAD 🐸🚲
Just came to say thank you from a german getting into baseball in his 30s, you make the learning about it very addicting =)
I heard the whole Oakland debacle was the pitch clock’s fault too.
Yeah, Oakland is moving to Las Vegas because of the pitch clock
Pitch clock introduced Ippei to the bookie
The "You're not God, or my father!" insert is the highlight of the show.
We need a rant about short men please whatever you want to do but us short guys need a advocate if you want!
Buckley, I've seen you in many a video comment section before, but I would never have guessed to find you here at the Weekly Dumb. Cheers, Buck, keep it up, hope Canada is less cold
I really think the crackdown on the sticky stuff causes pitchers to have to manipulate their arms more in order to achieve spin rates and get results which ends up leading to increased injuries
“I’m about that action” Joez is my spirit animal
1:34 😂😂😂 inside Jake’s brain
What’s the Tommy John surgery rate among pictures in Japanese professional baseball vs MLB? Anybody know?
pitchers need to throw more balls softer in practice. the reason the injury is more common now is they throw less balls harder where back in the day they would throw hundreds of pitches, just less hard
Editing was unhinged this week lol Nice job Zack
I don't think I have ever heard MLB pitchers salaries called "dog shit". Lol
Can we just say that any outfielder-assisted homer is called a Canseco? Or JoséHomer?
Josérun
5' 6" or not, that is a tough play to make.
The Dominic Fletcher home run actually hits the wall before it hits his glove if you watch closely, therefore should be ruled a ground rule double or triple depending on the umpire’s judgment.
Came here to say the same thing. Should have been a ground rule double.
No way. I’m not going to look it up but if someone else wants to please share. I just think if it doesn’t hit the ground and the fielder never had possession and found it’s way over the wall it’s a home run. I guess bc the wall is the same as the ground in regards to it being a catch but I played center and I just think it should be a home run. What does the rule book say?
@@apfeiffer7606 nah, i think the fletcher one should have been ruled as a ground rule double, based on my understanding of the rules. It hit the wall, then the glove and went over. The south fla guy though, that's a homer. Had the fletcher one not hit the wall I'd say it's a homer, but that ball was in play, and then out of play bc of the glove.
Edit: my reasoning is the same as if it hit the top of the wall, then the foul pole and bounced over the outfield fence. that's not a homer either.
Think of it this way, if it hits the wall and the OF catches it, what is it?
Like others have said, the ball hit some thing in the field (anything) meaning the ball was live/in-play. Something happened to the ball to cause it to be an unfieldable ball, which now rules it a ground rule double.
Yeah, it should be a double plus an advance to third on a "throw" going out of the field of play.
We need 68 mph pitches again
The solution is expand the roster. Allow more pitchers on teams, have a bigger rotation of just 5 players so pitchers have more than 5 days to recover their arms if you’re gonna ask them to throw heaters all the time because velo is all you care about.
Isn't that the opposite of the solution? Give them less innings to pitch and they'll put the entirety of their strength into each and every ball they throw. If the killer is repeated maximum intensity, allowing less pitchers on teams would force them to hold back because they can't rely on a long period of recovery, they need to be ready to pitch sooner. Not saying that's the best way to force pitchers to lower their effort but it's one.
Day and Night over Alicudi got me good
Dru Bru is a brewery here in Washington. On top of a damn mountain, it is. Good beer.
Snoqualmie 🤝
Their Kolsch is immaculate.
Snoqualmie nice place to have a brewery unless you are their delivery driver in cold winters.
Same in the arts, specifically vocal arts. If you can make exciting qualities with your voice, people will ask for that everytime. Think Sarah Jessica Parker as Annie in her childhood or Adele cancelling tours due to vocal fatigue. Nothing can replace healthy, maintainable vocalizing.
The editing of this video is top tier 💯
Used to get super excited as a kid to go on the dump run. I'd even say "to the dump" to the tune of the William Tell Overture.
To the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump.
To the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump.
To the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump.
To the duuuummmmmp, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump.
I don’t know if you guys practiced it but you nailed Gullo! Perfect pronunciation, thank you.
Could start a “goat fund me” page to help the goats. :D
I desperately need this to be twice as long lmao, the editing is unbelievably funny
Jomboy 💯 on owners treating their employees
Arm angle. Simple. You’re trying to rev up to nine RPMs for 100 pitches and you’re dropping your elbow down and getting into that inverted W position to catch a few extra miles an hour but you’re putting exponential more stress on your elbow. 93 is a dime dozen if you ain’t 98 ain’t shit. Javelin throwers do it once or twice not 150 times multiple times a month.
The net thing is something similar I went through, I play golf and have a practice area in my yard, they complained when I built a big net cage but they also complained when balls where hitting their house and in the yard. The neighbor built a bigger shed to hide my bigger net. so eveyone was happy. Small town living.
At a certain point, the teams are gonna have to change what they're doing because they're gonna push their pitching staffs into the dirt if they keep using them in a way that burns them out. Not that you should trust the teams as they have created these circumstances, but at least you can trust the incentives that they need their star pitchers especially in clutch moments and will screw themselves over if they keep playing minor league injury call ups against major league hitters. Self-preservation will kick in as pitching is a scarce resource, not an endlessly renewable one.
Its not pitch clock and its not all year with no rest. Its consistent rule changes and inspection changes that lead to changes in kinematics and a ball that is to big for most people to grip 100% optimally without assistance.
If it was a rest issue it would be far more prevelant in JPBL and other non american leagues.
Outside of ball and grip size, its correlated to but not directly caused by higher velocity and greater spin rates.
I grew up in one of those Chandler, AZ county islands and you are spot on. Didnt think I would see my hometown on Jomboy but here I am...
Trevor Bauer on his Channel talks about the MLB pitchers and how they are not being trained to be athletic. Ya know when pitchers were allowed to compete games or at least make it to the 8th inning there were not as many pitchers getting injured.
If I had JJ Hardy money there's no way I'd live with neighbors all around me like that. Why didn't he buy a farm/ranch and build all that stuff??
Love the Joez cameo!
I love taking my boy of a good dump run lol we went on Saturday lmao
Tyler Glasnow is blaming injuries on lack of sticky stuff. Makes sense.
Sure does. Old tried and true baseball is best. Oversupply of "faux" geniuses today.
Pitchers were blowing out arms at an alarming rate before the sticky stuff controversy.
Instant thumbs up for NYC bagel guy, my spirit animal.
This is like a baseball show from adult swim 🤣
Moment of the week: a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo by Joez.
On the pitchers getting hurt issue, it might be helpful if they gave each team 2-2.5 minutes of "extra time" that would tick down if pitchers went over the pitch clock.
I saw something one time that brought up the question about why do pitchers get significantly more arm injuries than tennis players. If I remember right they thought that letting go of the ball causes more torque or something. They thought maybe holding on to the tennis racket actually helped build up strength and was way less stress on the arm. Idk but I thought it was an interesting theory at least
I deadass thought Jomboy said Rough Kevin 😂
Is that Dominic Fletcher hr a ground rule double since it touched the wall first? Or is it still a hr since it didn't touch the ground?
No it is hr if it hits player(Canseco had one bounce off his head) or top of wall first
@@mykelengieza7057 I knew if it hit just the player, just wasn't sure about the wall
good thought!
1:56 the slide whistle😂😂😂
The editing is absolutely fantastic. On an unrelated note, Zack shouldn't get Employee of the Week
Post credits scene this week made me chuckle out loud in front of family
"Loved a good dump run" Lol
This show is like if Tim and Eric did a sports news show.
Perfect Weekly Dumb once again thank you everyone
Beginning in high school, pitching coaches are now teaching power pitching instead of easing into a game to survive 6-7 innings.
Kudos to Zack Esposito on the editing, great gag pacing
My Canadian grandsons name is JJ Hardy! What the flip???? He is 7 years old!
The Weekly Dumb is like the sports version of Katya and Trixie's CZcams videos
How did Zack get actual footage of the inside of Jake's brain??
We all knew that that's what's going on in there, but to actually see it live...
Loved the Alicudi and Day 'N' Night reference.
I’d like to see a breakdown of the Seattle Jays Game 2, bottom of the 3rd 1 out. Biggio on first, is balked to 2nd base on the 3rd disengagement. I saw it on the highlights and it didn’t fully explain, I think there was some excessive foul balls.
I’m with JJ. Put stadium lights up. Also the pitch sucks, same with banning the shift. Haven’t watched a game since the rules were implemented.
Possible solution to arm problems, raise the mound back up and increase the pitch clock 10 seconds.
Didnt know mound height had changed
The Frogs are back. Well done.
Since Spencer strider been out I’ve been crying myself to sleep every night
Tough loss. OK to cry at night sometimes, but not every night if over age of 2. Life is hard.
@@kdevinturner8778You seem like you could use a good cry…or two.
@@someoneyoudontknow7705 I have been crying for over 47 years. I am a Mariner fan and it's looking like I will be crying again because of another World Series gone.
Love a good dump run
Watching this high litteraly keeps me going.
julio rodriguez assisted a homer on opening week, ya'll missed that i guess
Well thanks guys now I have to go listen to Day & Night thanks to those musical blue balls you just gave me
You know what? I love the unhinged editing of the weekly dumb. I actually would prefer it to be even more unhinged. Whoever is editing this, you're doing a really great job, and I wouldn't mind if you dialed it up to 11.
EDIT: I just learned it is Zack. Good job Zack. Do it even harder.
There seems to be a large increase in tendon/ligament injuries in the 2-3 years.
that’s for keeping me informed boyz
The hit regarding Fletcher bounced off the wall into the glove...
Legends like Nolan Ryan, Greg Maddux and The Big Unit are laughing at these theories about pitchers dropping like flies 😂
They all had grippy substances on the ball. They need to adopt pitching styles compatible with low ball friction. Now that we are seeing how resistant players and teams are to have pitchers change their styles, we can now understand why the league made the ban in the middle of a season. No one was going to prepare anyways. It has been a few years and few are preparing. They are blowing out their arms instead of making adjustments.
Bro. I lived for the Sunday dump run as a kid
Short guy rage, dump run, and the mayor of goat Island really kicked this WD to the next level.
We have a lot of "throwers" in mlb now. Not saying they are not effective but, ask Greg Maddox if a "real Pitcher" can be effective not breaking 92-95 mph.
Nicky Cass cameo 🤌
Kid cudi day n nite during the alicudi part lets go zack!
Sorry the pitch clock is a big part in this. Lol when multiple cy young winners are coming out and saying theres an issue lol.this season has more pitchers on the il then ever before at the beg of a season lol 23 all stars plus more lol and the games are the same length 😂
Look back at Kerry Wood and Mark Prior. Throwing too much too hard before we all knew how important pitch count would become. I was bitter with Dusty Baker for so long about that (but keep telling myself I can't apply what we know now to what happened then).
But no one was throwing that hard that often. And pitch counts we're too high. And we see what that did to their careers...
Can anyone explain why teams haven't gone to a 6-man rotation? Is it because of the roster limit? It seems like it would make sense especially when the MLB schedules 20 games in 21 days to start the season like they did with the Astros. Yesterday they had to put Framber Valdez on the 15-day IL due to throwing elbow inflammation
zack with that Cudi!
This show is my favorite niche show. Thank guys.
Top Golf going: “What did I do?”
Pitchers used to *not* throw really hard?
Yes, pitchers used to throw with mechanics that worked for them and their bodies instead of changing their throwing motion to achieve the highest possible velo. They also were not constantly throwing at max effort like most pitchers do these days. They would keep energy in reserve because they were often going longer into games whereas pitchers today rarely make it past 7 innings or whatever pitch limit their coaches have set.
Zach went off this episode
pitch clock seems like bullshit they used to throw over 100 pitches per game every game. Now when they get close to 100 pitches in a gme they get pulled.
But I thought all these psy pitch counts protected pitchers
I wonder if there's some simple exercise that will help with pitchers between pitches with the clock. I almost want to think there's a possibly quick, perfectly executed stretch that would work.
That being said, I also wonder if the mechanics have gotten so much better and precise, but somehow lagging behind the natural body growth and movement. The mechanics have really changed so much, but as we know, evolution isn't quite so fast.
I wish these videos were longer
Format reminds me of Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Jake, I need you to dress up like a giant praying mantis for the next one.
"he'll get injured, and then we're good" or rather, then they can collect that insurance bag. But that's prolly because I've been following the Mets for too long...
"There's an inherent unfairness to this, an injustice because he can do whatever he wants because it's a county island, and I can't," Lang told KPHO. "I don't have a recourse because I am bound by all these rules in this HOA ... It's very disappointing and frustrating that all I can do is file a complaint and hope that somebody in the county feels like listening to me." Mrs Lang is upset because she lives in an HOA and can't do what JJ is doing? Great... MOVE. She isn't saying, here, that she's angry that he is putting in a baseball field. She's apparently angry that she cannot. Oof.
A little Kid Cudi in there. Nice.
They should make the clock quicker just for bringing it up.
It’s the pitch clock AND they throw really hard. Both are causing injuries
It's not the pitch clock, guys are throwing harder than ever and also a greater variety of pitches by pitchers is more to blame
