  • The Nevada Northern Railway pulls the annual freight train special through the mountains of Ely, Nevada. This railroad is one of the best preserved in the World with yards, shops, rolling stock, and locomotives appearing just like they did in the 1930's. This railroad does offer public excursion trains. Not a lot of slide valve 2-8-0s running these days, especially with a boiler or firebox of that size. 93s a unique one and I'm glad it's on my radar now

    Ely is a real old west town. I came across it unexpectedly riding a motorcycle across the US 250 miles by road from Tonapha, and no gas stations, just made it at a steady 50 mph.🤣 I did enjoy my nights stay there though

    Excellent video Tom. I'm looking at a Canon G50 myself. How have you liked it? Are you using the built in mic or an external one?

    • @travelingtom923
      @travelingtom923  Před 2 lety

      Internal mike which I think does just fine. I liked the Canon G20 more than the G50. The G20 was really good at capturing sound and a smaller camera. The G50 gives you a lot more detail. When the weather is nice the G50 really looks great. When I ride trains I still use the G20 as it is smaller. The G50 has a 4K option and shooting in 4K produces massive files (about 1 gigabyte a minute) so it really isn't practical for producing movies. I rarely shoot in 4K unless it's something special. I also have tried a newer Sony camcorder which is about the same as the Canon G50. Regardless of the camcorder having good editing software can bring the picture and sound quality up by leaps and bounds. A good HD camera in the $500-800 dollar range will get you excellent videos.
