You should know by now that the PAS do not recommend using olive oil to soak anything that requires cleaning or conservation. The oil has a harmful affect on your finds.

Well good luck Cleggy. I hope you find more dirty water for cleaning. I had to laugh. I thought you'd brought some specially prepared bromide solution or some of your favourite ale! I know I'd be giving that area a very thorough search. I'd be going across the area at ninety degrees with the same coil before I went up a coil size. The best of luck and skill!

look like shillings to me, dates were only on 3 and 6 pence coins... some dated shillings but quite rare....the second was clipped a canny bit witch was a shame:-( but two of the best coins ive seen this year on youtube, the first one you found was like watching detecting porn...lol superb finds bud well done you:-)

The Elizabeth coin, predates the use of numbers, date would be shown with mint mark possibly bell or ley's.
