    Thank you so much for this tutorial the appliance shop told me it needed new door gaskets, $250 later the problem still existed. Thanks to Covid-19 we were unable to get a new one so I came to CZcams found you and did exactly what you showed me with help from my wife and now we’re $1,978.57 richer for having not bought a new one. The drain hole in the upper pan and the trap in the clear tub at the bottom we’re plugged we cleaned both out all the way to the lower pan and added a piece of plastic like you suggested to direct the water into the little catch pan. Once again we send you a heart felt thank you!

  • @TylerSteven9
    @TylerSteven9 Před 4 lety +5

    Our fridge is a different model but the same principle applies. On ours it was totally solid and all blocked with an inch of ice, we ended up just emptying the entire fridge, cramming everything into the second fridge for the night, unplugging the fridge for the night, and letting it all thaw. Then on the inside of the fridge by the drainage hole we found it was plugged with gunk and debris. Cleaned everything real nice and should be good now! Thanks for the upload, it helped me know what to look for.

    Perfect! Water has a very high surface tension and wants to stay together in droplets. It can be seen by pouring a little water on the driveway from a drinking glass. It heads up with rounded edges. If you pour vinegar or rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl) it quickly spreads out on the surface. Adding the plastic card, gives it a hard edge to drip from. Look under your windows outside on the stoop, and they have a 1/4” cut near the edge. This keeps the water from traveling up toward. This is the drip edge. This is a great video.

    I've had this same problem for years, and this video is the first explanation I've found anywhere that makes any sense, thank you!
    I always assumed the water collecting at the bottom was condensation, even though the weatherstripping on the door seemed fine and cleaning it didn't help. It never occurred to me that the moisture was coming from the freezer!
    I've been using a transfer pump / syringe to collect and remove the water every few weeks (which is a huge improvement over my previous sponge method), which isn't that difficult, but it would be great to solve the problem completely.
    I look forward to checking for a clogged drain or that same design flaw. I need to wait until my fridge is a bit more empty so I have room to work, but I'm excited to try this soon..

    I used string trimmer string from walmart as my wire to clear out the line. When done…. I taped the 7’ piece of string trimmer string (in a ziplock bag, to the back side if my fridge for the next time).
    TOTAL COST OF DO IT YOUR SELF:--$5.00(string trimmer string and 1 hour of my time)

    would have been cool to talk about the steps of getting the control panel off

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  Před 2 lety +1

      The control panel is held by 4-5 screws. If you don't see any screws, they may be hidden under plastic caps that you can easily remove.

    Excellent video but how can you tell when the defrost cycle starts?

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  Před 3 lety +1

      The defrost usually happens every 8-10 hours. The compressor and fans will stop, and you may be able to hear sizzling sounds of water dripping on the hot defrost heater. You can also start the defrost manually on a basic refrigerator like this... czcams.com/video/PMzHrsNyeOA/video.html

    Clever fix,my freezer drain ices over at the bottom of the interior floor, requires pulling off drain hose from bottom of interior freezer to the drain pan and running a screwdriver up to the interior floor drain pipe to break up the ice clog inside the pipe. Tried putting hot water over drain hole but that does not defrost drain hole pipe
