- How to stop top freezer water leaking inside the fridge and pooling underneath crisper vegetable drawers on the bottom. Clogged defrost drain tube dripping buildup water outside on the floor. Maytag Whirlpool
Man this was the first time I used youtube to learn how to fix something- it took just ten minutes after watching this video-thanks I’m a fan for life!
Glad you fixed the refrigerator yourself, and thanks for watching!
Wish me luck..mine has a water dispenser system. However im not getting any water out of it. The water is coming out from the fridge every time I try and get it out of the dispenser.
Hey man, you can learn how to take out your own appendix on you tube. I wish I'd had access to so much readily available information when I was young. If you need to know something, purdy much Anything!
From droppin a cam in your ole 400 small block to quantum physics to no bake cookies and yes,,, even unclogging your defrost tube on your fridge. It's just fricken awesome dude!!!
@@billwilson8296 CZcams has taught me alot for my Service tech career
Outstanding tutorial! Concise and to the point! Covers it all. You went beyond what most people would do in order to locate the problem! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful, and thanks for commenting!
I cant tell you how much you just helped me. My mom whos 90years old and on a fixed income, had this problem.Took me 10 mins to fix after i watched your video. Thank you so much.I will pass this good deed on .Mitch
Glad to hear that you fixed it yourself, and thanks for watching!
Just curious, was it a clogged drain tube, or you fixed it with a plastic card?
@@Your-Self it was a clog at the end of the the tube.Years of gunk and dirt. Cleaned it with the garden hose.ThNks again
You can buy everything except the experiences. However, with a small modification the problem was solved, excellent video showing your professionalism and experiences, many thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this tutorial the appliance shop told me it needed new door gaskets, $250 later the problem still existed. Thanks to Covid-19 we were unable to get a new one so I came to CZcams found you and did exactly what you showed me with help from my wife and now we’re $1,978.57 richer for having not bought a new one. The drain hole in the upper pan and the trap in the clear tub at the bottom we’re plugged we cleaned both out all the way to the lower pan and added a piece of plastic like you suggested to direct the water into the little catch pan. Once again we send you a heart felt thank you!
Great to hear it, and thanks for watching!
Not really 2k richer...you actually saved that money, not gained it.
Wow, even if this doesn't fix my prob, you are great for repair advice. Your concise, procedural, and speak clearly, great video!
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
I like your down to earth way of explaining your problem solving thought process.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@Your-Self ditto thanks so much
Omg thank you so much !!! The card thing worked no more leaks!! No more puddles in my floor 😁 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Glad it worked for you as well, and thanks for watching!
Question. Did your refrigerator smell before you fixed it?!!?
Our fridge is a different model but the same principle applies. On ours it was totally solid and all blocked with an inch of ice, we ended up just emptying the entire fridge, cramming everything into the second fridge for the night, unplugging the fridge for the night, and letting it all thaw. Then on the inside of the fridge by the drainage hole we found it was plugged with gunk and debris. Cleaned everything real nice and should be good now! Thanks for the upload, it helped me know what to look for.
Glad I was helpful, and thanks for watching!
Putting the piece of plastic in was a stroke of genius! This is my project for today. Wish me luck!
Plus, you didn't waste your time in the beginning because that alone may have helped someone else!
Good luck with your project, and thanks for the comment!
Thankyou so much for this I watched your video and that's exactly what problem I'm having with my fridge. Because of everything we buy or need fixed getting so outrageous these past few years I can't afford to call a repairman out or else I'll be living on the streets, the information you shared helped me fix my fridge and save my floor from rotting out. Thankyou Sir for taking the time to share this 🙏🏻✌️
Glad it helped, and thanks for watching!
Praise god I have been all over internet looking for this video this is exactly the way my refrigerator is. I will pull it back out and pray I find the problem.
Good luck with your fridge repair!
I DEFINITELY LIKED IT WHEN YOU STATED THAT YOU WERE DOING THINGS WRONG AND DECIDED TO READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL.....SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS....MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS BEING CLEANED......SEEING AS HOW NOBODY WANTS TO BE WRONG.....YOUR ADVICE WAS WELL WORTH IT....THANKS
Thanks for watching!
I found your video after trying to unclog the hole from the freezer drip pan. Thanks so much for sharing your experience & knowledge!! I feel more confident trying to investigate this a little further with your explanation & tutorial💪🏻🙏🏻👌🏻
Wonderful!
Great video! After chasing my leak for a year and a half, wiping the water build up every couple of days, the card trick was the fix that worked! I used an old hotel key and it was done! It's been a week now, and not one drop of water! Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing!
Do you have to remove the control panel to put the card in?
Yes I did. Very simple to take off and reinstall :)@@MajorCulturalDivide
Thanks for this great step by step video. Found my issue in the upper panel drain as you had described. Very nice to avoid a service call for something like that!
Glad it helped, and thanks for watching!
It must feel good when an ordinary non-technical man can improve of design. More power to you sir.
Feels good to improve this fridge instead of throwing it into the garbage field.
Thanks for the comment.
You are Amazing!!! My husband is not handy. I was dreading taking this thing apart looking for a clog. I saw your video and decided to try the easy solution first. Grabbed an old plastic rewards card and voila!!! It worked!!! You, sir, are the bomb!! Thank you.
LOL, great idea to start with the "card trick," and if that doesn't work, look for a clog. Thanks for watching and commenting!
My husband is the least handy man in the world, his solution- let’s just buy a new fridge. This vid just saved me tons of money!
i would like to say thanks, for the great explanation I just fixed my leaking water inside under crisper vegetable drawers. thanks again
Great job, and thanks for watching!
Wow! You can detect and fix design problems,
I have so many emotions now but no words to express them.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much for this video! I just sent you a small donation. I have a Magic Chef brand fridge and this was exactly my problem. I wish I found your video sooner as I've emptied my fridge and tried to fix this a couple of times now over the past 5 months. Your plastic card idea was genius and took me only 5 minutes!
Glad it helped, and thanks for the donation!
Great job...I've found that design flaws are a major cause to various failures on different equipment. It's great to be able to come up with simple and inexpensive fixes.
Right on
Perfect! Water has a very high surface tension and wants to stay together in droplets. It can be seen by pouring a little water on the driveway from a drinking glass. It heads up with rounded edges. If you pour vinegar or rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl) it quickly spreads out on the surface. Adding the plastic card, gives it a hard edge to drip from. Look under your windows outside on the stoop, and they have a 1/4” cut near the edge. This keeps the water from traveling up toward. This is the drip edge. This is a great video.

I've had this same problem for years, and this video is the first explanation I've found anywhere that makes any sense, thank you!
I always assumed the water collecting at the bottom was condensation, even though the weatherstripping on the door seemed fine and cleaning it didn't help. It never occurred to me that the moisture was coming from the freezer!
I've been using a transfer pump / syringe to collect and remove the water every few weeks (which is a huge improvement over my previous sponge method), which isn't that difficult, but it would be great to solve the problem completely.
I look forward to checking for a clogged drain or that same design flaw. I need to wait until my fridge is a bit more empty so I have room to work, but I'm excited to try this soon..
Good luck!
Thank You! This has been driving me nuts for months. Cleaned the drain line twice but the credit card trick fixed it.
Yep, I was surprised as well that the water continued to leak after drain pipe cleaning.
Thanks for posting this video. My drain tube was plugged. I fixed it quickly thanks to this video.
Cheers
Glad it helped
Came for the how-to on fridge leaks, stayed for the chill.
Thanks for watching!
Dude !!! Thank you been having this issue with my fridge for months, gonna take it apart in the next couple of days to check it out. My unit is a Frigidaire but has the same issues.
Thanks for the info !!!
Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!
Just bought a new fridge. My Frigidaire was doing the same thing
Thank you so much, i was about to replace my fridge before watching your video.👍
Glad I could help
Wow, excellent camera work and explanation. Thank you very much YourSelf.
Glad you liked it, and thanks for watching!
Pure genius. I've been having this problem for years. Simple, effective solution.
Thanks for watching!
Great vid! My tray was frozen solid... letting it thaw now and that should do the trick . I must have a version after this one because it has a drip guide built in.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Solved my problem and probably saved me a $300 service call. You should patent the plastic card trick and sell it for $millions$.
LOL, thanks for watching!
Thank you!
I sure would NOT have replaced my fridge, nor hired someone at $150 to come do that task.
I used string trimmer string from walmart as my wire to clear out the line. When done…. I taped the 7’ piece of string trimmer string (in a ziplock bag, to the back side if my fridge for the next time).
TOTAL COST OF DO IT YOUR SELF:--$5.00(string trimmer string and 1 hour of my time)
ALTERNATIVELY:
New Fridge= $2,000.00
Appliance service guy= $250+
Good job, and thanks for watching!
Drain box was solid ice and drain was also plugged...thanks for posting excellent video!!
Glad you found the video helpful, and thanks for watching!
Thank you so much!! My fridge is 20 years old and this is my first leak inside. Just waiting on a defrost cycle to see if it worked! I have no doubts it did! Sincerely appreciate videos like yours!!!
Good to hear it, and thanks for watching!
Happy to report back that it worked!!!
Thank you. When I followed your instructions I found the drip channel clogged with black gunk. I installed a card behind the defrost chute as you showed just in case.
Thanks for watching!
Read the manual last...just like I do. Great video using a discarded plastic card...ingenious.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for watching!
Thank you, thank you 🙏, this is the problem that I am having with my refrigerator, y was thinking was time to buy a new one, but seeing your Vidio I have to call my son to come and fix it.. thank you again, problem solve.
Thanks for watching!
I have been trying to fix this problem for months and it was not until I saw your video that I found the real problem. The outlet at the back of the fridge inside was clogged up. After cleaning the little drain tray and flushing the outlet, it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for the helpful video.
Glad you found the video helpful, and thanks for watching!
Sir you are amazing... Thank you so much for this video i am gonna treat my refrigerator leakage problem with this trick. Thank you so much😌😌
Best of luck
That was some solid, real, help. Than you for the video.

Glad you found the video helpful, and thanks for watching!
Greatl video thank you! It is as if all refrigerators are made to fail like this. If only there was a brand that made refrigerators that don't get these issues.
Thanks for watching!
What a twist. Can't stop laughing. 🤣 Thank you for the help.

Very useful info. Solved an old problem. Thanks very much.

Perfect tutorial. Couldn't be explained better.
Glad to hear that!
Awesome! Worked - did the outside first - solved the problem.
Nice work!
I have an old Admiral Brand fridge and I just assumed that it was breaking down. Now I know I can fix it as soon as I find a socket that actually fits in to take some of the parts off as my full psych it said apparently doesn’t have one that fits it. Thank you so much.
Good luck with your fridge, and thanks for watching!
Wonderful camera work.

Thank you!!! I was able to fix this myself!!
Good to hear it!
Excellent
Thanks for watching!
Clever fix.
thanks very much for this video. I have the same model and your video helped me disassemble the fridge panel and clean the drainage hose. Do you know if there is a safety switch that triggers a shut-off of the defrost when that hose is clogged?
Glad it helped!
Regarding the Safety Switch, there is just one for the defrost heater if it gets too hot... but nothing for the water overflow like in dishwashers.
This was VERY helpful, thanks
Glad it was helpful, and thanks for watching!
Excellent, work for me. Thanks
Great to hear it!

Yes this is it! Finally the solve!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Expecting Washing Mechine Repair too. 😄
would have been cool to talk about the steps of getting the control panel off
The control panel is held by 4-5 screws. If you don't see any screws, they may be hidden under plastic caps that you can easily remove.
Very helpful, thanks man
Glad it helped
Excellent video but how can you tell when the defrost cycle starts?
The defrost usually happens every 8-10 hours. The compressor and fans will stop, and you may be able to hear sizzling sounds of water dripping on the hot defrost heater. You can also start the defrost manually on a basic refrigerator like this... czcams.com/video/PMzHrsNyeOA/video.html
Very nice
Thanks!
Perfect!
Clever fix,my freezer drain ices over at the bottom of the interior floor, requires pulling off drain hose from bottom of interior freezer to the drain pan and running a screwdriver up to the interior floor drain pipe to break up the ice clog inside the pipe. Tried putting hot water over drain hole but that does not defrost drain hole pipe
we cleaned our hose & fixed ours ty
Good to hear it, and thanks for watching!
FANTASTIC! Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video, exactly my problem.
Glad you fixed it yourself! Was it a clog on the bottom, or you used a plastic card like me?
Great great great!! I have the exact same model, you saved me a technician visit :-) clear explanations, great camera work :-) BTW I had a different problem, but good to know about the credit card trick!
Glad you found it helpful, and thanks for watching!
What was your problem?
