  • Mötley Crüe is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1981. The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, lead guitarist Mick Mars and lead singer Vince Neil. Mötley Crüe has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. They have also achieved seven platinum or multi-platinum certifications, nine Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart (including 1989's Dr. Feelgood, which is Mötley Crüe's only album to reach number one), twenty-two Top 40 mainstream rock hits, and six Top 20 pop singles. The members of Mötley Crüe have often been noted for their hedonistic lifestyles and the androgynous personae they maintained. Following the hard rock and heavy metal origins on the band's first two albums, Too Fast for Love (1981) and Shout at the Devil (1983), the release of its third album Theatre of Pain (1985) saw Mötley Crüe joining the first wave of glam metal. The band has also been known for their elaborate live performances, which features flame thrower guitars, roller coaster drum kits, and heavy use of pyrotechnics

I will continue to go to their concerts as long as they can still rock! Here's to you Motley Crue! You guys are definitely my favorite band! Thanks for all the years of the awesome music!

    I remember the first time I heard and seen photos of the boyz. I was 13 and in grade 7. A hot 80s chick in my class brought in the cassette. Teased hair tight jeans camel toe and all. Fn hot! She hit play and it was like I was injected with metal. Like nothing I had ever experienced before. These boys were badasses. Since then nothing has ever been such a polar change as hearing Motley for the first time. She's got the looks that kill. Yes sir Mr. Motley!

      I was 12, 1982, and bought Too Fast for Love for a dollar from the clearance bin. It was the original version, not the remixed release that came slightly later. I'd never heard of Motley Crue, but going by the cover I guessed it wasn't pop! It blew me away, I loved it. The raw guitar sound was what I liked most, and it was different on every track. I still miss hearing the slightly different versions on that album, I've never been able to find them online, or on CD. I've still got the vinyl, I just haven't had a record player for 30 years, and I always taped my albums when I got home and played the tapes, so most of my albums are near mint, except that the inner sleeves usually ended up on my bedroom wall as posters.
      Until Smokin'in the Boys Room came out, I felt like I was the only one in Australia that had heard of Motley Crue!
      I saw them in 2015, it was kind of sad, very few people in the audience knew any of the songs. They supported Kiss at the V8 Supercars race, and your race tickets included the Concert at no extra cost, so it was not a select audience, just a few people that hung around to hear Kiss play "I was made for loving you" mostly, it made me ashamed to be South Australian.

    I remember hearing Shout at the Devil in '83 and it was definitely edgy for the times. They were hardcore on a different level but had pop appeal to reach the masses, powerful at the time. They didn't break new ground musically but had image and attitude in spades. GNR and Metallica were leaders as well a little later. Great American 80's Rock and Roll bands. Motley Crue's contribution to music shouldn't be ignored, they had a huge impact on the 1980's.

    Thank goodness that for the most part these backward bible belt days are OVER! I was born in the 50's, and this was the social norm. Everyone was supposed to follow the bell mare and have impeccable, yet impossible moral standards and believe me you were constantly watched so you didn't stray. You were supposed to be a good little soldier exactly like everyone else or face the fires of hell. It was a nightmare life. So imagine what happened with my strict moral parents, their friends, and the almighty church when I broke free, married a bass player and lived hippie life ever after! Peace!

      I meant *Pop Rock Band* They were pushed by the media so hard simply for their image and the things they said, not the music. From 1985-1990, they were definitely more pop rock than metal.

    It's pretty cool how it was Nikki Six that founded the band when all he plays is root notes. But that's fine. I play Drums and I think that's what Bass players should do mostly that is. But that's why I really always Loved Motley Crue. The rest of the band just kind of played along with what Nikki Sixx was playing. But I originally thought that Mick Mars was the guy that founded the band.

    • @benbaird2129

      Nikki was the leader, and also wrote the songs. That was his main contribution to the band.

    • @johndonny443
      @johndonny443 Před rokem

      Nikki wrote the songs and lyrics which created the template for their street wise dangerous heavy catalog that also had elite level hooks and pop sensibilities. Tommy filled the back end in with a frenetic all out assault on the drums in the vein of Bill Ward and Keith Moon. Mick is so underrated to me. In an ere where Eddie started a revolution of speed players who copied his style usually not as well. Mick was not that style. He was more a metal keith Richards. He came up with more massive catchy heavy riffs then any player of the decade of the 80's. Incredible tone and gutterall power that like Nikki one could tap their toes too. Then Vince had this machine gun explode in your face delivery on the fast stuff and a smooth as honey tenor which was juxtaposed to the raw power the band pumped out. Great band

    To me Crue changed the scene in 81 with too fast for love, because they didn't sound like anyone else, same with Def Leppard with Diver Down. The band who started( or at least blew it up 1st) hair "metal" was Quite Riot..is say "metal" because it wasn't considered metal at the time. Not like Sabbath, Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, ect.. they were Metal.

    It comes a cross as goofy and ridiculous but what it does is get you to go just a little bit further, closer to accepting behaviors that you wouldn't have before hand. All the Rockstars are promoted as being cool and all the Christians being uptight and not fun. Where did you find yourself after 5 yrs of listening to this music? You can joke about it or make a clever statement but be honest with yourself.
